  1. My LPs brought very little money. $240 for about a dozen of them and they kindly gave me another $20 for the remaining 200 of Pop, Classical, and Big Band records. Just glad I didn't have to throw them away or bring them with me. Autograph and Ticket Stub collection did much better. Old NBA Playoff stubs sold for crazy money on eBay and a couple NBA autographs I collected in the 1980's brought four figures each. Surprisingly, early SuperBowl ticket stubs and NFL Championship (pre Superbowl era) stubs were not very desired.
  2. eBay could be a good friend to your retirement or vacation funds! My memorabilia paid for our coast to coast move.
  3. Pricing and capacity issues, including parking
  4. Here is a recent article https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/fall-foliage-search-new-england-places-this-weekend/
  5. Some of those old ones are valuable. Ours went back to the 1980s. Sold some signed ones, like a Sondheim one (he was at one of his shows) right after he passed away, and a Moulin Rouge one signed by the male lead. It was from the Boston opening night and we listed it the night he won the Tony award.
  6. All our Playbills got thrown out in our recent move. Tried to donate them but no one wanted them. Signed ones we kept (in binders). There are alot of binders!
  7. We coaxed the Navigator on a South American cruise to offer an astronomy course one night, and he got the uppermost ship lights turned off so we could do some stargazing, as most of us were unfamiliar with the southern skies. Maybe you can get your ship to turn off the lights to help in Lights hunting?
  8. Look into flights to Boston and from there to Iceland. It seems to be a pretty good portal to Reykjavik. It's also quite worth getting to Iceland a day or two early and seeing some things on your own or on a tour
  9. Yes, but only REALLY late at night. We've been in Iceland for 5 days in March and 7 in September and had zero sightings. Either cloudy (or rain) or just no activity those nights. And you have to go by Nautical Sunset (I think that's the name). The time when the sky is DARK, not just when the sun sets. We went stargazing in New Mexico last month and got to our dark spot right after sunset. And then waited an hour for dark enough skies to see things, like the milky way and satellites, etc. Lights are a bonus. Have stuff to keep you busy in the daytime and hope for lights as an extra
  10. The new 1776 has casting that seems inspired by the Hamilton casting, but in a different direction. This version of the show didn't work for me, but I expect it will get an audience for at least a few months. Come From Away and Take Me Out both have pretty minimal sets and costumes, and the TMO cast doesn't need much rehearsal time as there is only one cast member change from the prior production, so I guess a fast turnaround isn't shocking.
  11. Manhattan Cruise Terminal? There's a thread from yesterday on this
  12. Phantom was popular for a long time with tourists. And it will play forever in every city with a stage and it will be revived in NYC in the next 10 years. But a 25 year old is not a sure thing and certainly isn't a risky thing. 1776 in it's new incarnation is risky. Kimberly Akimbo is risky, and I expect it will fall, but I hope it does well because I want new theater to succeed. Hadestown was risky. Take Me Out is VERY risky but was a huge hit earlier this year. We saw it 10 years ago off Broadway and again earlier this year because it is that good and deserves support. Between Riverside and Crazy is a great story. So is Topdog/Underdog. Both shows that played awhile back and are being revived because they are good. Six is great. We saw it in Cambridge before it moved to Broadway. Lots of fun, but it is SHORT. If you have 8PM tickets, 9:30 dinner will be easy. We saw that right when it opened. We were floored by the emotion. Bring lots of tissues.
  13. These are in order that I found them on a website listing current and soon to be appearing shows. These are the GOOD ones, there are others that are currently playing that I don't recommend. We really crammed as much theater down our brains as we could over the past year before moving to the West Coast. We didn't see MJ because we aren't fans of some of the things he did, and there were other things to see. We did see the Neil Diamond show in Boston and thought it was very good for Neil Diamond fans, but the "story" was pretty weak
  14. Could be 40, could be 80 Could be sunny, could be hurricane. I think you knew that, though.
  15. Machines take credit cards for sure. I don't recall if they take cash. And you have to add "waiting time" to the trip calculation. I included that in my 45 minute estimate.
  16. There are 2 (TWO) Disney shows on Broadway now. None coming soon. Aladdin and Lion King. There are 2 (TWO) Jukebox shows on Broadway now or soon. MJ and the Neil Diamond show. If you want to count Moulin Rouge as Jukebox, then 3. That's 5 out of 41 Broadway stages SO much great and original things to see on Broadway right now. Just in terms of what I have seen I can strongly recommend the following: Hamilton Book of Mormon Six Chicago Hadestown Come From Away Take Me Out Into the Woods 1776 Kimberly Akimbo Topdog/Underdog Between Riverside and Crazy Sweeney Todd Add in Off Broadway and I can recommend: Kinky Boots Little Shop of Horrors (seeing this again next week on the west coast) Blue Man Group Fiddler on the Roof
  17. Via transit? I'd estimate 45 minutes (Silver Line to Red Line). Via car, shorter than that in non-rush hour. In rush hour who knows. Could be 15 minutes with no traffic, an hour with
  18. Both those versions, especially the Pie Shop one, were incredible. We did the Pie Shop one twice and loved it both times.
  19. Some great places nearby to get breakfast. High floors on both the north and south side have great views.
  20. Ha! Pedestrians and Bikers have NEVER stopped at a red light in Manhattan EVER. Not to mention the sidewalk bikers and the wrongway bikers! Both cities are difficult to drive in.
  21. JetBlue is very well organized at Logan. Pre-check is all the way to the left in the terminal. I've never had more than a 10 minute wait to get thru, in a couple dozen visits to that terminal
  22. we saw this in Boston on the last day it was presented. Really good for Neil fans. Not so good if you aren't.
