  1. Yikes, OP. You're really not doing yourself any favors in your own thread. General ship maintenance happens all the time, year round, on every ship. The extreme conditions these ships sail in require it.
  2. This is a classic example of where people don't really know how these point of sale systems work. Oftentimes, for most Point of sale (POS) systems, the option is to turn it on or turn it off and nothing in between. In the case you reference, if the grocery carry out cafe/sub counter should have a tipping option available, the entire store might need to have the option enabled because of the limitation of the POS system, thus making it an option for the normal checkout line. People on these boards jump to the worst assumptions sometimes and reading through this thread has just been an eye opening experience.
  3. Vegetarian here- honestly I've never heard of someone who couldn't be around the "smell" of meat. That'd be really hard to do since meat is being served literally everywhere. Most plant based products don't really smell 100% similar. Your friend might just have stronger preferences than others.
  4. They are definitely doing it- signup times were weird when I was on Radiance in May and the cost was a bit much so I chose not to do it. I don't think they had even announced it on day 1, but you can always try to go over and see if you can signup for it.
  5. I'm really excited that they're rolling out more health-conscious options and vegan options onboard. The switch to cruise food from home food is always really hard for my family, as is finding a legitimate (well thought out) vegetarian or vegan option onboard besides the indian option. Don't get me wrong- the indian option is always tasty but you can only eat so much of it.
  6. As others have pointed out, it's more to do with homeland security/customs than anything else. Passenger manifests must match and are usually pre-screened by customs long before you step foot on a cruise (which is why they ask for your ID information a month before).
  7. You should check out Consumer Rescue- they're an offshoot of Elliott's original team and have been doing better work overall IMHO.
  8. That won't suddenly absolve OP's parents of the debt. RCL will just go directly after them via collections and as another commenter pointed out, likely get them banned from RCL in the future. OP, you should write a brief email (specifics only, no feelings, no extra details) to executive relations explaining the situation and asking for a reversal of the exact amount (give them the actual number) of charges given the situation. RoyalGuestRelations@rccl.com Guestclaims@rccl.com Wait a week for a response. If that doesn't work, work your way up- don't just email the CEO as the first line of defense- if they say "no", there's nobody else who can help you.
  9. Friendly reminder (as another commenter mentioned) to clear your cookies for Carnival's website. While the issues might have to do with the way the site was updated, it's not helpful that your browser is storing pieces of it for later use on what is a "new" site.
  10. We went to Huli Huli Hut, sat at the bar, and had a great time. Their food was amazing and we met some very friendly locals who shared their boils with us- some of the best crawfish I’ve had. Also recommend staying close to there so you can walk to the downtown area with bars and shopping. not sure about any gay bars, I didn’t notice any in that area.
  11. It likely did, but OP wasn't awakened by that first one.
  12. I found a link on google for this. They seem to be advertising a transportation service. With it being an hour away, you might want to book a rental car and return it closer or just keep it for the week and park it somewhere like a hotel where it might not cost more to park.
  13. This is truly a logical fallacy. The jobs that are tipped clearly need to be done by someone and the jobs that aren't tipped also need doing. It's not about skill level or education, it's about a role needing to be filled- or everyone on these boards would be screaming about something not being available or getting done on their vacation. I agree with you- Royal should just pay everyone what they deserve. The reality is that they probably market tested this already and most people would rather pay a low fare up front and come in with a "fresh wallet" for the other stuff.
  14. I bought the premium plan, but Mexico also comes with my Verizon plan so I had really decent internet and data connection throughout the trip. Zero issues with the onboard wifi throughout, although switching devices didn't work as well as it did when I was on the Dream last December. Enjoy your trip!
  15. Thank you for bringing us along 🙂 I honestly was a bit confused about that overhang covering your balcony, but once you posted photos underway it seems like a really great place to be on the ship. Did you like having the extra shade or would you have preferred a different location?
  16. It looks like the Vista had another incident of propulsion issues a few days ago. It must have been strange floating in the Gulf of Mexico and even reminiscent of the "poop" cruise (although that happened on a different class of ship). I'm wondering what recourse, if any, Carnival has against the ship builder/engine builder based on the seemingly regular issues with the vista class ships and what it might have been like onboard during this.
  17. I'd prefer the Cove as well, and on the Mardi Gras they are a bit higher up than on other ships in the fleet so I doubt you'd run into the door being locked due to weather (although there's always a chance). I always found their idea of an upgrade from the coves to "standard" to be a weird way to put it. Maybe some folks see it as an upgrade, but I see it as a lateral switch not worthy of paying more for.
  18. My tip would be in contrast with the popular opinion maybe, but I believe it's best to not arrive early. Choose a later boarding time and you, in most cases, will not have to deal with the thousands of your newest, closest friends all trying to get on the ship at the same time. Start your vacation with truly less stress- fly in the night before, enjoy your morning and get on the ship after 1pm so you can continue vacation mode and not have to go back into high stress mode.
  19. I'm sorry that these items have been misplaced- especially ones of sentimental value. As i've read through this thread and seen your replies, I'm wondering if when you repacked your bag you may have left your jewelry wherever you were staying the night prior? Where did the decision to put your carry on items into your checked luggage take place? Your bag was tossed around while being loaded onto the ship, so it's not surprising to find it a bit messed up once you get it to your room (have you seen the way bags are handled? It's not pretty).
  20. If you're already in Europe, you should be fine as there will be other flights you can jump on to get there (at your expense). Royal has a department for day-of travel emergencies that you can call in an absolute last case scenario to make plans to meet the ship if possible. Linked here.
  21. As you head south the weather will absolutely get warmer and more comfortable. I will say, though, that on the Radiance in May it was downright cold on sea days out on the top decks- although that didn't seem to deter any children from having fun and doing the slides. Granted, the Radiance doesn't go as far south as the Panorama, but just to give some perspective
  22. Question: Is your cruise during a spring break week for many schools as it's in March? The easiest (and somewhat reliable) way to tell is to go to a mock booking and see if your cruise costs more than the others during that month. If so, you'll be competing with not only cruising crowds at MCO but also Disney crowds which can make security back up to the tune of a 3 hour wait. Next question(s): Do you have travel insurance and did you book refundable/flexible tickets with WestJet? In the case you don't make the 11:15, how confident are you that WestJet can just get you on their next flight? I'd be considering all of this before saying that you'll make it for that flight. MCO has a reputation for a reason.
