  1. This is the best advice you’ve been given so far. A river cruise is a great way to see Europe. Cities were founded alongside rivers. Many of the great cities of Europe have a major river flowing through them. You will dock quite close to the historic city center, or maybe half an hour to 45 minutes away. There are many good river cruise lines. You will be able to pick according to your budget and your interests. Also check out the river cruising forum here on cruise critic. Lotta good information there. Enjoy your cruise !
  2. I promise not to wear leggings to dinner! 🤗
  3. Yes, I should have more clearly specified brewed coffee (I assume it’s brewed). Cappuccinos are fine.
  4. Agree, if from Baristas. MDR coffee is awful. The best coffee I ever had on a cruise was this past July on a uniworld river cruise in Germany.
  5. Ladies, a question. I will be boarding mariner on 3 November and traveling south to warm environs. I’m wondering about temperatures inside the ship’s common areas, lounges, restaurants, bars, etc. Will I be wearing long pants, leggings, long-sleeved tops and perhaps keep a sweater handy while inside the ship before getting dressed for dinner? Or will I be wearing shorts and nice shortsleeved or sleeveless tops while inside? How did you dress while inside? I’m happy to hear about all of your outfits, and I am especially interested in the details about appropriate coverings for the temperature inside. Thx!
  6. Thx! Looking forward to more posts. The reviews of Turkish Air seem to be either fabulous or failure. Glad it worked for you.
  7. Some cabins are sold on a “guaranty”basis without a specific state room assigned until some later point.
  8. It wasn’t listed by mistake. I’ve seen this question posted on other forum recently. Everyone except the cruise line agrees with your statement that the yellow fever vaccination is not required. Yet, the cruise line requires the vaccination. I recall some discussion about a pax requesting a medical exemption, but I don’t remember if that person was successful or not. However, to answer your question, Namibia is not listed by mistake. Unfortunately.
  9. Good news. My peruvian tour guide says that the port of Callao has arranged everything so cruise ships will be able to come and go. Lima Peru, here I come!

  12. Surfersgirl, join us on our (quiet) rollcall.
  13. Thanks for your thoughts and observations.
  14. 20+ years ago when I traveled to BsAs on business, Alvear Palace Hotel was the best in the city. Too expensive even on a generous expense account. Only the big wigs were booked there, not us lowly analysts! Great hotel, great location - La Recoleta IIRC.
  15. I hope you are right. I just checked, and my 20 day Vista cruise in September 2024 is also sold as 2 10-day cruises
  16. In late Sept 2024 I have a 20 day Mediterranean cruise on Vista. The first time I realized it was a seven day and a 13 day cruise, or maybe it was 2 10-day cruises, packaged as a 20 day cruise was when I had to put down a double deposit. I’m a little nervous about that, we’ll see how it rolls out.
  17. Hard to believe that Regent would assigned a Ship with lots of plumbing issues to their around the world cruise. glad to hear that this is not a constant issue. I’ll be on board in three weeks, and I hope to enjoy many flushes!! 😝
  18. Thx! Mariner is the ship used for ATW cruises! Hard to believe…..
  19. DCGuy64 said he’s booked on Nautica to Japan next April.
  20. Please update me/us w some (good?) news on the toilet situation. Today I did my online check in for my 3 November cruise on mariner to lima!
  21. It can still be a risk these days to DIY your airfare. Just understand that if someone decides to DIY their airfare, they are taking a risk. So it might make sense to think about the embarkation and disembarkation cities. In my example, in 21 days I will go on a Regent cruise from Los Angeles to Lima Peru. Regent bundles the airfare into the price, although I could have taken the air credit and DIY the flights. Latest word/gossip is that Cruises are skipping Peruvian ports due to overly restrictive Covid regulations. I think booking DIY flights these days to Japan is still taking a risk. So, on my cruise disembarking in Callao Peru, depending on how much notice they give pax, pax might be scrambling to try to figure out how to change return flights on the fly. I prefer not to take this risk. Perhaps I am paying extra for this luxury, and to me it is worth it. Everyone has a different risk profile and should take action to accommodate their own appetite for risk. JMO.
  22. Haha! Maybe perhaps was it from a lower class line, X, Royal or (shudder!) Carnival? JK! Nobody flame me - I’m just joshing!
  23. Travelers have different support needs. If you purchase your cruise directly from the cruise line, then they have to provide all of the post purchase support. That could be a lot or a little, depending on the passenger and possibly that itinerary. So it is not a zero cost to the cruise line when the passenger books directly from them; they have to staff experienced travel agents to answer the phone and to provide support to the passenger.
