  1. Ive been following the 2023 roll call for the Egypt trip. Members are reporting that Viking has cancelled its pre-cruise extension to Jerusalem at least into December, that refunds are being made and that flights are being rescheduled.
  2. It is not a difficult question, if someone in the audience has the answer. The difficulty is finding the right audience, which in the case of mah jongg players on Viking who are also on Cruise Critic is a very small subset of an already small subset of all of the people who sail on Viking Oceans.
  3. Again??? Maybe we should just post the e-mail addresses for the ships so that the Pano-fans can e-mail the ship directly to have the cameras adjusted. It would save time over waiting for someone to find a friend on board who can report to guest services.
  4. Not sure that there are enough players frequenting these boards to give you an answer -- and the answer may differ from ship to ship. Not a lot of people have asked this question over the years that I have been following this forum. My thought is that you might get a more reliable answer were you to e-mail Viking directly using tellus@vikingcruises.com. Let them know which ship you will be on so they can give you information about the particular ship you will be on.
  5. Thanks, Rob. I agree with your interpretation of the paragraph. Viking can change anything they want for whatever reason and they are not required to comp passengers. Any lawyer will tell you the same. If we don't like a particular change, we have two choices: live with it or cancel the cruise. Ranting and raving will not change anything.
  6. You will find it here: https://docs.vikingcruises.com/pdf/2-230626_BookingAndSaleTermsAndConditions.pdf Advanced, Cancelled or Delayed; Acts of God; Strikes; Other Changes: VRC and the Carrier reserve the right to withdraw and/or cancel a tour or to make changes in the itinerary and hotel accommodations whenever, in their sole judgment, the conditions warrant it. Here is a link to all of the legal documents. https://www.vikingcruises.com/legal/index.html?CID=EML|RSP|999|vrc.54805742
  7. Yes, please. More daft questions sounds like a plan and a challenge. We're ready, so bring it on! But please, new area of investigation in a new thread. No burying hot new topics in an old thread.
  8. To clarify, there are launderettes on board the ships. They are free to use and detergent is included. In addition, one of the perks in the suites and junior suites is complementary laundry and dry cleaning service.
  9. For those who don't use the provided robes, you can ask your steward to remove them from the cabin. As for the hooks discussion, I use magnetic hooks on the party walls and suction cups on the glass and mirrors in the bathroom. Magnetic won't work on glass (bad science 😉) and suction won't work on the rough texture of the cabin walls even those in the bathroom (more bad science). I bring metal clip hangers for drying hand laundry and hang them on the suction hooks. Here is what I use and I like the way they work. Magnetic hooks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08D7DQTD8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These are the suction cup hooks I like. They are smaller to pack. Test them on your bathroom mirror at home before you leave. Hang overnight. Any that fall off are defective;leave them home. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091GRHKFR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These are the first ones I tried. They worked just fine but they were too bulky to pack. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091GRHKFR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 BTW, I have tried both of these in my kitchen on my subway tile backsplash. The pop off the wall;can't get an airtight seal. The work best on glass.
  10. That's how we handle it as well. We take 5 days worth of outfits, unless we have a longer pre/post cruise adventure planned.
  11. Your question opens a can of worms, in a good way. It is not a yes-no and in mymind it comes down to travel-style, which is personal. What kind of traveler are you? Are you 'pack to the max'? Are you carry-on only? Are you somewhere in between? Do you like to dress for dinner (your vacation, your choice)? Are you one outfit a day is plenty for me? So much to think about, right? Laundry service vs DIY is another one of those travel style questions. We all have access to the laundry service. It is an include perk for the suites and a paid service for the rest of the cabins. For example, DH and I prefer to travel light and we depend on laundry service to do it. I'm on vacation, too! No cooking, cleaning or laundry! Laundry is part of the travel budget. We do a combination of service, launderette and hand wash. Is it expensive? That is one of those subjective questions that you have to decide for yourself. A laundry price list can be found on the Viking website, probably buried in the FAQ. Finally, there are a number of threads about laundry that you might want to check out.
  12. I'm batting clean up! A few points that the guys missed (there are so many things to say about the excursions; it's almost easier to do it piecemeal). • Viking does not put excursion prices on the main website. The guest interface (available to you once you have booked a cruise) is where you will find prices starting about 120 days prior to your sail date. For now, and it is a long shot, go to the "Almost Live" thread and ask if someone would be willing to post the tour prices from that sailing. You may or may not get a response but it is a places to start. This will give you a ballpark for shorex prices; these will not be the prices for your sailing. Also, can you ask if anyone did independent tours and would they share vendor names. • The guest interface is called MyVikingJourney.com, known affectionately as MVJ. Yes, it is okay to do two at a time, especially as you get towards the bottom of your priority list. On the other hand, there are folks (like me) who do not want ACH information sitting on the Viking servers and using a credit card does not take that much longer. I just about have it memorized by the time I'm done. Check twice a day, even! If there is something you really want, contact Viking at tellus@vikingcruises (not via chat and not the call center) and tell them how devastated that the shorex you really wanted is sold out already and that you are hoping that they will be adding more seats. (I try to go for the tears and sympathy vibe when I do this; there is nothing worse than dealing with a crying grandma😉). Viking does not keep a waiting list and they do not let us know when and if more spaces have been made available. Emailing as I just suggested is the best way of letting them know that there is unfulfilled demand for a specific tour. No luck and no other plans? Try again when you get on the ship. Finally, if all else has failed, show up on the dock as the buses are loading and see if they can get you onto one of the buses for the tour you want. There is always the chance of a last minute cancellations/no-shows and with modern technology your onboard account will be billed before you even make it to the bus.
  13. Let's be honest; 42 referrals in one year is a red flag. Viking assumes that anyone who gets that many referrals in one year is doing something wrong. Forget chat and forget the call center. Provided that you not offer online to share your number, contact Viking via tellus@vikingcruises.com. Explain the problem and tell them you would like a clean, concise, jargon free answer as to why this is happening to you and what you need to do prove that you acted in good faith so as to get your referral awards reinstated. Include your guest number and a phone number.
  14. Viking doesn't make any announcements other than its regular barrage of brochures. They also have no fixed schedule or reliable history to guide us.
  15. Agreed. While there are a huge number of books on board, they are mostly non-fiction -- history, exploring the world, travel, art history, architecture, biography, etc. Books you won't find elsewhere. There is no "best sellers list" or pop culture or even classic/vintage lit in the Viking collection. That kind of stuff is all easily available through Kindle and the public libraries digital collections.
  16. Manfredi's has been known to offer specials. Also, there are reports of changes to the basic Manfredi's menu. I just can't remember in which thread it was covered but I'm pretty sure it was reported by @Clay Clayton.
  17. We did the Nile river cruise with Viking in January. We flew BA. Our Club World business class seats BOS-LHR were lie-flat beds, each in its own little compartment. Dinner in the Airport Lounge was great and we boarded the plane directly from the lounge. Our layover was 6 hours and then onto Cairo in Club Europe Business seats, with the tray over the middle seats. A 5 hour flight (like flying to LAX) but at least were served a meal. I just booked flights for British Isles Explorer in the Spring. Business class travel. Booking it myself was significantly cheaper than booking through Viking. After I booked the flights (and before I actually plunked down the credit card card), I was then informed that I would have to pay even more money to choose my seats at booking. Thank you, I would like to know earlier on in the process that there would be a 3 digit fee per leg, per seat for the privilege of choosing my seat in business class.
  18. My thought is that you should be taking this up with Viking directly and in particular with TellUs@vikingcruises.com. Forget the phone center or the chat; they won't be able to answer your question. Explain your issues and concerns to TellUs. Include your booking number and a phone number. Tellus us will be able to contact the operations department and get specifics.
  19. There is a solution to that problem. Book more cruises! 😉🙃
  20. Yeah, that's one of the problems. Hard to tell the difference some times. <shrug shoulders> oh well.
  21. Soda, tea, coffee. It doesn't matter. Sometimes you just have to expand your audience by starting a new thread, not burying the discussion as a sub-discussion in some longer thread. Personally, I think all three topics, as well as a whole bunch more buried here, deserve their own thread. The bigger the audience, the better the chance for a good discussion and answers to questions.
  22. If you want a discussion about coffee, then make it happen. Start a new thread and get the ball rolling.
  23. Sorry that you have had to cancel your cruise. Here is how to control notifications on a thread by thread basis: Go to the roll call/thread. Find the button that says "Following." It looks like this on a desktop browser (where it is at the top of the page): . When the menu drops down, click where it says "Unfollow." You will notice when you open the menu that it allows you to control notifications -- Weekly Digest, Daily Digest, Instant Notification (the default setting) and NO Notifcations. Here is how to control notification how notifications are handled going forward: Change your notification settings at https://boards.cruisecritic.com/notifications/options/ There is also a way to control your settings so that you are not automatically "following" any thread in which you post, such that you have to actively choose to follow a thread -- and you can choose to automatically follow a thread with NO Notifications (which is what I do; I then used the ACTVITY function to check for threads with new posts whenever I decide to visit to visit CC. There are a number of default activity threads already set up ,one of which is "Content I Follow" https://boards.cruisecritic.com/discover/followed-content/?&stream_date_type=relative&view=condensed ). Use the navigation bars at the top of the page to find settings Notification settings = click on the bell General settings are accessed by clicking the down triangle beside your user name These things can also be managed on a mobile device but I can't tell you how to do it exactly. I can only say that it is similar but that the placement of the buttons and maybe even their look is different.
