  1. Very simple LauraS - it wasn't broke so don't 'fix' it. Please return to the previous format.
  2. Norwegian Star according to MarineTraffic.
  3. Marinetraffic is showing Moon ETA Capetown at lunchtime Feb 2nd.
  4. Each to their own. The Qatar seat may be wonderful, but if it's rear facing by definition it's miserable FOR ME. Could well be great for others but I think it's reasonable for others to be aware of potential issues with rear facing sets. Again, each to their own but I can feel the difference even in flight.
  5. Maybe some can get used to rear facing seats, but I can’t. I have been stuck in one a few times, and find they make me air sick, not just at takeoff and landing, I can feel the difference in flight too. Absolutely miserable. So glad they are being phased out.
  6. I quote the SS website: Cruise fares cover …… gratuities aboard ship (except spa) ….. Entirely up to you if you feel that is sufficient or if you wish to tip more or give to the crew fund.
  7. Hmmm ... depends if it's your blue or your pink jacket ...
  8. Truffles 9pm but alcohol anytime. My favourite hangout. Seasons greetings to you and Dr Spins!
  9. The CD when I disembarked a couple of weeks ago was the gloooorious Roy Perez.
  10. The SS norm is 120 days in advance. The date is clearly shown on the voyage confirmation you receive after you've paid the deposit. I have just made a final payment due by Dec 18th for a cruise beginning April 16th. This is the norm. Count the days!
  11. Very minor things but nothing of actual significance. The Dawn has USB A and C charging ports in the cabins, the Moon just USB A.
  12. I would like to point out that the SS upgrade to premium is $29 per day ONLY if you purchase it by the 24hr period. If you purchase it for whole voyage it's a tad over $20 per day. I always purchase the upgrade but I freely admit I'm an impatient person and prefer to have 10M. My choice. Plenty of pax cope quite happily with the basic.
  13. Don’t try booking on the tablet, that’s hopeless, it never works. Go and see the restaurant manager in person and book that way. You could get your butler to do it but I think it’s much quicker to do it yourself.
  14. And one point to consider - if you end up sharing a cabin with a stranger, there is only one safe. How will you both safeguard your valuables? You'd trust your passport, credit card info and cash with a stranger? I sail solo and, as above, I look at the daily cost, not the solo supplement.
  15. Thanks for taking the time to report, please carry on, every little detail is interesting - I'm on the Nova in April so am very keen to hear about her. One small but, to me, important point - does the Nova have the 'always on' nightlight in the bathroom like the Moon and the Dawn have? Or do I need to bring my own small LED low wattage nightlight? Is there a shaver socket to plug it into if that is the case?
  16. Way back before Covid, I had a guest onboard for a whole day visit which included lunch and drinks which I believe cost me $100 which was charged to my onboard account. Altho' it was mid-cruise, I arranged it beforehand with a form from: specialservices@silversea.com and my guest had to bring her passport for ID and for SS to hold during her visit to ensure she disembarked! Dunno if that is how it's done now.
  17. As, indeed, it is. And so much cheaper than all the shampoos, body washes, shower gels etc etc etc that cost a whole lot more, and are nothing much different. Just smellier. People are so gullible.
  18. Alfred. It refers to Victoria's son, not husband. (Sorry about duplication, should have read above post)
  19. UK, which includes Scotland, is not in the Schengen area. You probably need to check with your own gov about travel requirements to go to the UK.
  20. A very noisy game. Dunno how it’s played, but anyone nearby knows it’s happening.
  21. I believe the regular Wi-Fi is about a fifth of the speed of the premium, ie about 2 mbps rather than 10. And pressing the OK button on the controller is the mute button.
  22. Be a little careful with ribbons. Or pom poms. Or whatever. I have been told that the more exuberant suitcase identifiers are at risk of being caught in airport luggage conveyor belts with resulting damage to the bag such as the handle being ripped off or the whole bag being pulled off the belt and possibly lost. What I used to do before I gave up checked baggage altogether and only travel with carry on, is to firstly not have black luggage, and secondly use very brightly coloured luggage straps - just as good for easy visual identification, and an extra layer of support for your bag closure beyond the zip. And, of course, I took a photo of my bag with the strap.
  23. You are unlikely to be able to board early because the Dawn is coming TA to start her Caribbean season and will have to have a very thorough Coast Guard inspection. Which cannot begin until the ship is completely zeroed - ie all pax and crew have been through CBP inspection, and all pax (including b2b) have disembarked. I was told last time I was in this situation the CG inspection didn't start before 11am and took ages. Nothing can be loaded or unloaded till this is done. The ship sailed late because it was so late before the cargo could be loaded, and I'm not sure we got all of it. Usually in Lauderdale boarding starts around 1pm, frequently earlier, but in my experience when it's the first visit to Lauderdale after the crossing from the Med season, you'll be lucky to begin the checkin and boarding by 2pm. When I was last in this situation, nothing started happening before 2.30pm, I wasn't on board till after 3pm. Your experience may differ but don't hold your breath.
  24. If you google travel Cape Verde Canadian, you should get to the Canadian gov site. It says you need a visa that is obtained on arrival - this may be done by SS? Perhaps check with SS before you do anything else. I am UK and we need a different form but I have been to Cape Verde at least twice with SS and I don’t recall having to do anything myself.
  25. I used to drink mine on the rocks in a tall glass - more refreshing at a hot lunchtime by the pool. I seem to recall a long lunchtime on deck with Spins (the Shadow? Maybe the actual Spirit?) and quite a number of Silver Spirits … at least, I think I was there …
