  1. Hi Ron, Not quite clear what you mean by the ‘sound bar’?
  2. It's not because of being a connecting room. It's a design error in all cabins, some guy being 'clever'. It's because the TVs are in the mirror so you could think of them as acting as a 'connecting door' in that they are actually back to back in the space between the walls of adjoining cabins. The only solution, which seems to be happening when they can fit it in, is to rip out the mirror/TV unit and replace it with an ordinary mirror and a TV mounted on a bracket sticking out from the wall, as you see in all the other ships.
  3. I don’t usually do roll calls, I’m a very self contained cruiser, some might say not very sociable. I don’t join in much except trivia. But I am visible around the ship, always carrying a book and my iPad.
  4. Americans call scones-biscuits, cheese biscuits -crackers, biscuits -cookies, jam -jelly, sweets -candies, chips -French fries, crisps -chips …
  5. I think they are usually 8am to 10pm.
  6. I have been wondering too as she’s definitely still in Lisbon according to MarineTraffic live, and I’m due to board her on 25th in Lisbon, after she’s been to Barcelona and back. Where’s the error? PS the Cloud also appears to be unmoving in Chile so maybe it’s MarineTraffic live that’s wrong?
  7. Yowser! I'm not a morning person but I may have to just grit my teeth and go for a walkoff at the earliest time allowed. Anyone else got thoughts or suggestions?
  8. Thanks all for the info. Looks like a trade off between hating having to get going so early in the morning, and hating standing in queues. What happens if you wait till after the rush? Presumably latest time to disembark is 9.30 or 10am (I know I'd be out of my cabin before then) - would I be at the back of loooong queues or would they have started to go down? I'm not in a mad rush, I have to overnight somewhere on the way home, so I've got all afternoon to get to wherever I choose that somewhere to be.
  9. Interesting input. I am disembarking from a crossing next summer so could you give me a guesstimate - say, for example, if disembarkation started at 8am. I would be walking off with my bag (only ever have carry-on, never travel with checked bags) am a UK citizen but have Global Entry, and would need a taxi to La Guardia. As a lowly Britannia with no status with Cunard, what time could I reasonably expect to be in a taxi? I currently have to choose between two flights - 2pm or 3.38pm - and am wondering if 2pm is too early? Thanks.
  10. This is starting to look a little worrisome for those of us on the Nova next April. Eighteen slots a day is not very many, even if cruise ships get some sort of priority. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-67281776
  11. But can you purchase a beverage package online pre-cruise using OBC? I have a load of OBC from a special offer so I definitely do want to use my OBC and not pay with money for a beverage package, but it has been intimated here on this board that I can't do that till I'm onboard. I'd love to know the answer, the last thing I want is the hassle of trying to buy food and beverage packages immediately in the kerfuffle of boarding. PS - specifically food and bev packages, not talking about excursions here.
  12. I have been on the Moon and Dawn this year and both stock Seedlip n/a gin in the bars, it makes an adequate G&T.
  13. As I said, everything and more is on mycruise including menus. And bios of officers and lecturers etc And booking possibilities for restaurants, spa, future cruise person etc And ports info and excursion booking. And your account and expenses. And other stuff, I can’t remember it all. The Chronicles is only a four sided roundup of basic info, with an insert making it six sided on port days, designed so you can take the insert ashore with you, it has the port and port agent info on it.
  14. Don’t worry about it now. Once onboard on SS Wi-Fi just go to mycruise.com on your device and there it will all be. Or watch the TV, but I find it useful to have on my iPad to refer to when I’m around the ship. SS still does paper daily info, the Chronicles, but everything and more is on mycruise.
  15. Er, not from Bermuda. Our airlift is limited, it’s absolutely nothing like the US market, prices only ever go up, not down. Very occasionally there’s a ‘sale’ but it’s only ever for economy, not biz.
  16. How amusing! I am also cruising Cairns - Sydney next November so have been thinking about this issue as a OneWorld flyer, AA Exec Plat. I so dislike the BA BDA-LHR night flight that I'm almost certainly going via LAX, with or without a stop over there. And I can't be bothered with working out all the details for a RTW ticket. One consideration is that if you have to cancel on BA your money's gone, on AA you get a trip credit. Otherwise there isn't a lot to choose between them - IMO BA has (marginally) better food, AA has a better selection of movies. I pretty much always book about 9 months out as I have found that to usually be the sweet spot of best price plus flight/seat availability. And, of course, then frequently check my bookings to deal with the schedule changes ...
  17. Not necessarily ... BM is the two letter code for Bermuda ...
  18. I went to YouTube and put in silver Dawn cabin and found some videos, some by ordinary pax, so you could try that.
  19. I wonder which island you mean? Nauplion is indeed a gorgeous town on the mainland of the Peloponnese. Alexandria is no loss, IMO the OP has ended up with an itinerary better than the original.
  20. I'm sorry for your trouble and know this won't help in the current situation but I post it in case it is of assistance to anyone else. I pack my clothes in compression storage bags - not because I want to squeeze more stuff in my case but just so that if the case gets wet, the clothes remain dry. The bags must by definition be waterproof because they are airtight - if not, they won't stay compressed. You don't even need to compress them (although I do, by sitting on them) - you are essentially packing into heavy duty sealed plastic bags. I buy ones as close to the size of my case as I can, then just layer them in flat - a convenient and quick way of keeping everything organised and tidy in the case.
  21. Not just Az, I have sailed into Barcelona a number of times recently on SS and we have docked at piers A or B. Or could be pier C if there's more ships. It is walkable into town - a bit of a trek - but one must go up and over a channel on a very high bridge. There are footpaths on the bridge but I'm too scared of heights to attempt it. Shame. There should be a shuttle bus provided (that's what I use) and there are generally plenty of taxis at the pier.
  22. As a solo, the 'fuss' about supplements and how they affect the per diem is very clear to me. If not to you, then that's fine for you.
  23. Or rather whoever decreed what the algorithm should be that was then programmed into a computer.
  24. From my personal experience of transatlantic flights in biz, I start looking at 10 months out, usually find a price I can accept at 8 - 9 months out, and always plan to buy before 6 months out. I usually buy by 8 months out as I have found that gives me the best combination of price with flight times and seat availability. Your experience may be different, and I'm no flight expert, but that is what my experience has shown me. And once you've bought your ticket, never look back at the price but do look back frequently to catch the schedule changes early so you can deal with them, before the rest of the herd notices, if there's a problem. If you feel you'd prefer to wait till closer before your trip to buy, I suggest you do a dummy booking to price transatlantic tickets at say 2 or 4 weeks before flight date ...
