  1. The only piece I’ve seen that I don’t like is, lo and behold, the Queens Grill. I feel I’m going to spend a fortnight staring at a wall. I’m sure it is a nice wall, but still…
  2. On QM2 a sheltered balcony is an in-hull balcony. The view is not so good as one with a glass front, but it’s protection from the wind is excellent in mid Atlantic. I won’t attempt to comment on other things, as I am in the wrong country, but I would say, why not use a competent travel agent?
  3. Strange we have such a comparatively low accident rate.
  4. You drove in Naples? Do you have some kind of gallantry medal?
  5. Just get them to put a jug in your cabin. Surely that is less hassle.
  6. We are on next week, and I am counting. And having just seen a picture of the library (I think), I am enchanted.
  7. And in the PGs, the extra half is added on sideways, so they are a nice square shape, unlike the Vistas.
  8. On QM2, Q4s are half as big again and have a dining room.
  9. I assume the experience has even more enhanced your hopeful anticipation of the maiden voyage.
  10. Despite the undoubted benefits of the congestion charge, it is worse now. But a wonderful place to walk, or travel on the top deck of the buses.
  11. Even though it is nothing to do with me, I am very relieved you are not attempting the arrival on the day. You will have an excellent time. If you are coming down on the Cross Country Service from Oxford, be aware that it is quite expensive and not particularly reliable. It is worth booking well in advance to get a cheaper ticket, if you can.
  12. It’s amazing how that black hull improves the look of a ship.
  13. All hoping to avoid the ultimate indignity of impaling her on the Brambles Bank on her first arrival, as QE2 did on her last. 🙂
  14. She may be delayed by meeting her flotilla. And do you see dear St. Helena anchored there?
  15. Looking at where she is now, she is definitely headed to the south of the IOW. So she’ll be too far away to see from Bournemouth.
  16. Sorry, that was inexcusable. Please substitute she and her for it.
  17. Vesselfinder does too, but I’m not sure I believe it. It tends to show the shortest route, I think. Anyway, if it does go that way, I shall have to dash down to the pier and give it a wave.
  18. That makes all the difference, much better than a witty answer which would have left my poor brain further confused. 😀
  19. Sorry, I’m being very dim here, but why does it matter if you’ve disembarked?
  20. Surely some of that is easily verifiable? Either QV is or is not longer than Arcadia?
  21. The one that was moored on the Thames for so long and is now, I think, on the Clyde?
  22. I would have thought Ocean was further from the station than Mayflower?
  23. If you are booked on a specific train, I’d get a taxi.
  24. But it is a difficult decision. Southampton is a genuinely interesting town, despite what some say. On the other hand, being almost alone on an empty ship is a wondrous experience, much to be enjoyed. Very difficult to decide. Certainly, if it is a wet day, as it nearly always is at the moment, I should stay on board.
