  1. ☺️😄Thank you for sharing your experience☺️😄
  2. It's called bootlegging. Them revenuers want their money! 😎
  3. If the date holds, there's gonna be some very unhappy folks at the checkpoints.
  4. Not to long ago a few SF Bay Area restaurants changed to no tipping. The owners said the employees will have full benefits and a living wage(?) for the area. A year or so later sales was down because of the higher prices. Most customers, confused on the concept, still tipped but smaller tips and the employees, front & back, complained (off camera) they made less $. I think all but one reverted back to tipping.
  5. IIRC the "new" cruise terminal at Pier 27 can only handle one ship. If it's occupied the second ship goes to the old terminal at Pier 35.
  6. The only one mentioned here before is the California Welcome Center in Pier 39.
  7. The PCC has no alcoholic beverages, maybe a deal breaker for some. It's an all day affair if you plan on "visiting" all six islands.
  8. The IT manager on an NCL ship told me that ships ops have priority on the sat link, pax gets whatever bandwidth is left over. Fastest is speed you'll get is when everyone's in bed. The slowest is the last night when the hotel is up-linking your bill to corporate.
  9. Near the cruise terminal? You'll have to spend more that $200 a night😎
  10. We're planning a leisurely day loop around the island. Just wanting to get feed back on any experience with Hui. Online reviews are 50/50. SWMBO crunch the numbers and a traditional rental is a tad cheaper, but the locations around Waikiki close too early for return. Airport return is 24/7 but that involves transport back n' forth OR parking at the hotel at $50 a night, both negates any savings.
  11. Anyone use Hui Ride (car) Share around Waikiki/ Oahu? Comments, thoughts? Thanks
  12. Best Western El Rancho in Millbrae, has SFO shuttle, and is a couple of blocks from Safeway & Trader Joe's. Close enough to smell burning jet fuel when the wind is right.
  13. Fleet Week is happening right now in San Francisco. Navy's in town and the Blue Angels will start flying this afternoon if the fog lifts. But many years ago I remember the first and only time a Nimitz carrier entered the bay for fleet week it never docked, just hung around Alcatraz, staying out of the way of regular shipping traffic. Those on shore leave got tendered and the VVIPs went by helo. Most of the planes flew off to San Diego before the ship went under the GGB. The Coast Guard and Navy was constantly busy trying to keep every lookie-loo/anti-nuke protestors with a boat away from the carrier.
  14. I remember reading about the grumblings from some attendees that while the accommodations where nice, they had to go through cruise ship screening to get on and off. Some were particularly peeved that unregistered guests couldn't board 😎
  15. Since almost all US states allow some form of cbd, it's really depends on the countries you'll be visiting. Doesn't matter if it's for medicinal use, you're still in their country when you dock. Some islands will bring sniffer dogs on board and if they sniff anything out, you the pax will have to deal with the local authorities. The Brittney Griner case is on the extreme side, but can happen.
  16. Doable, 'bout 45 min if not less on Sunday morning. OAK is actually closer to downtown SF than SFO. You might have to pay the driver's return bridge toll.
  17. Just watch out for the "bushman" 😎 https://sfist.com/2022/08/30/a-new-bushman-has-arrived-to-terrify-unsuspecting-fishermans-wharf-tourists-again/
  18. If someone tests positive, the protocol is to isolate for 5 days and wear a mask at all times except when eating/sleeping, test every other day. After 5 days if your symptom free, you can leave isolation, but your supposed to wear a mask when ever you leave home. In the meantime you're testing every other day. If symptom free after a total of 10 days...you're free. However if you have symptoms during the 10 days, the clock starts over. YMMV per your local rules. The free test kits from the feds ends today.
  19. To OP: What if the aide needs your immediate attention but unable to because of the limitations of the walkie talkies? Couple of decks or bulkhead could make the difference in hearing something to nothing. If commercial radios with higher power needs repeaters, what could a low wattage consumer unit do? Use the on board app.
  20. Lug one from home or look up on "G" collapsible" car seats. No guarantee they'll provide one even if requested ahead. Car seats are "optional" in most countries. Car seat is also recommended if your flying and you kid has own seat.
  21. As mentioned above, Disney and the NCL ship that sails around Hawaii (state law prohibits gambling).
  22. Please note it's Fleet Week the first week in October, ending with an airshow featuring the Blue Angels Oct 8-9. The northeast side of the city will be crazy-busy that weekend.
  23. Please note it's about 50 miles or 90 minute drive, on a good day, each way.
