  1. As of March 2017, GSC has 4 docking bays for their tenders: Sorry to be off topic, OP.
  2. Breakaway doesn’t have an OL. Neither do the Epic, Getaway, Escape, Star and Dawn.
  3. I think you’re mistaken. Star isn’t going to Baltimore. The other two ‘S’ ships will be going there … the Sky and the Sun.
  4. Why are you cancelling the VIVA cruise? Viva is nowhere near the Star … she (Viva) is 22 years younger than the Star. We have recently gone on the Spirit as did YVR and she was far superior to the Star. Star is our least fave ship, but I cannot understand why you would cancel your Viva cruise based on YVR’s experience on the STAR. YVR went on the Jewel back in May and she (Jewel) was as good as the Spirit. So, why the Viva? We’re going on Viva in Nov.
  5. Prima has lifeboats but they are not classified to be used to tender passengers between ship and shore. Same goes with the BA and BA+ ships as well as Viva. Isafjordur doesn't have tenders and its new longer dock is still under construction so that's why Prima has been bypassing Isafjordur all this year. As for Great Stirrup Cay .... the ships that call at this place do not use their lifeboats to tender at all .... why? Because there are several very large tender boats that live there and are available to tender passengers between the ships and island. This means all NCL ships can go to GSC, including Prima, Viva and the BA+ ships.
  6. This weblink isn't correct. The correct one is Judith and Nick Welcome you to Avalon House Bed and Breakfast - Lyndhurst (avalonhousebandb.co.uk) Looking forward to continue reading your review.
  7. …. and spare eyeglasses! We always take spare pairs of eyeglasses/contact lenses in case ours break or get lost. We’ve had this happen a few times.
  8. You'll be fine flying back to the UK on your British UK passport that is expiring less than 4 months later. We flew to the UK and Denmark and then back home to Bermuda (where we live) last October when my British UK passport had less than 4 months (closer to 3 months!) left.
  9. True. One year we were up in Scotland for a week visiting relatives and we flew from Glasgow to Southampton to board a ship. It's a very small airport and we flew down on a very small plane. Perfect, we were out of airport within 5 mins with our luggage.
  10. The 2pm is the time of arrival to Juneau. When we had the tickets they showed the ship's arrival and were valid for the remainder of the day.
  11. Yup, that's true! We were on two B2B and we purchased tickets for Goldbelt tram on each leg, in case the weather turned out to be bad on the first leg and we'd have the 2nd leg. It turned out we went on the tram on the first leg, and when we were walking by the tram station on the 2nd leg we overheard a couple gasping at the prices and wishing they'd booked them while on ship. We whipped our tickets out and handed them over to them.
  12. TAP is more expensive because TAP is a Portugal airline and doesn't fly non stop between the UK and US, and it costs more than Jet Blue because you need to fly to Lisbon on the way to change planes for Boston.
  13. AA, Delta, Icelandair, AlaskaAir, etc. Cheap means the fare doesn't include free checked bags, like Y fare. We live in Bermuda which means we need to hop over to the US to meet the international flights. When I book flights, some airlines pop up a selection of fares for you to choose one. We select the one that include free checked bags. Some airlines don't do that so we pay extra for the bags. But never $100 per bag!
  14. Please see my reply in post #12.
  15. Welcome to NCL, Saint Greg! Before I forget, you better do this quickly - book the Goldbelt Tram tour in Juneau! It costs you nothing due to the $50 credit, and it's nice to have the ticket in hand because when you have some free time in Juneau hop into a tram and head up. The views are speculator! The tickets for the Goldbelt tram themselves are at eye-watering $50 per person roundtrip! We did two B2B Alaska cruises on the Norwegian Spirit back in early June - we started and ended in Anchorage, and it was about the best time we've ever had, and we were thankful that we flew to Anchorage instead of Vancouver. I'm sure you'll find NCL different from Carnival, but please go along with the flow, and don't compare! ENJOY!!
  16. We've flown a lot internationally (we live in Bermuda), often via the US, and have never been charged $100 per bag!! Usually $30 to $40 if we're flying cheap. 2nd bag about $5 more than the first ($35 to $45), and the 3rd bag $100 & up. If the 1st or 2nd bag is overweight then it's $100.
  17. Seeing that you live in Maine I would assume Boston is your major airport for the long hauls across the pond. If I'm right, i suggest you check out JetBlue .... 544 UK pounds one way from LHR to BOS (non-stop) and it includes one checked in bag. 😃 Another alternative is Icelandair - if you are feeling adventurous ... short layover in Keflavik to change planes - easy peasy, I can tell you - or ... you can stop off to spend a few days in Iceland at no extra airfare .... we've done that several times when we crossed the pond to/from the UK to see my dad (now deceased). By the way now there are several airlines that offer cheaper one way flights and they are a boon to us cruisers that do transatlantic/pacific crossings and re-positioning cruises. I have been fortunate enough to be able to find them myself and over the years I have gotten great deals. We personally don't/won't use NCL air, mainly because we live in Bermuda and it is easier for me to search for good flights/deals from/to any of the gateway airports that we fly to from Bermuda (Boston, JFK, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, Philly are the 6). Enjoy the hunt!
  18. $100 per bag??? Usually it's $30-40. Overweight bag is $100!
  19. Keep in mind it's cheaper to pay for 2 under 23 kgs bags than a single bag that is overweight! Doesn't matter whether the first bag is free (on some airlines) or not but the 2nd bag is often cheaper than the first bag that is overweight.
  20. Here in Bermuda a few supermarkets sell these, and I wonder if you’ll be able to find one in Vancouver that sell these …. Our dessert just now …. We’ve been eating that for on and off for some years since they brought in Siggi’s yogurt. Disclosure: I’m 1/2 Danish and we have been to Denmark loads of times (ymer) and Iceland several times (skyr).
  21. The Spirit is being leased to Lion Travel (Taipei Taiwan) for almost 4 months only. She is released back to NCL in Sept 2024. There are itineraries in NCL.Com from Sept 2024 into 2025. We prefer the Spirit to the Sun.
  22. Southampton Airport is a very small airport with small planes, so the 9:15 am flight is doable. Takes about 15-20 mins by cab.
