  1. Prima's lifeboats are of different type to Star's and they aren't certified to tender passengers between ship and port. We were on the Star in July 2022 and were able to anchor in the fjord and tender to Isafjordur. We'll be going back there on the Star in June this year.
  2. For the last several years we have not seen any ships doing that. That would involve calling local dockhands back to help with the ropes, etc, and this costs $$$$$, so I think the cruiselines have stopped doing so.
  3. Your sister may get the surprise .... her DOB is on record/file, and she might receive something like a bottle of wine, a birthday card and voucher for cake as dessert when dining since it's a big 0 birthday. DH and I have gotten them (different years and ships). If you buy the package the cabin will get decorated with balloons, banners and you'll receive a voucher for a birthday cake.
  4. We often book the OK (Obstructed Oceanview) cabins on Deck 8 on the Jewel class ships because we will not do inside cabins, and the OK cabins are lowest priced in the Oceanview cabin category. We know that lifeboats obstruct the views but we are still able to see the sky, sea and land and that is enough. We are retired and have to watch our budget. We are often out of our cabin a lot.
  5. It’s crapshoot. Two words: lifeboat maintenance.
  6. Sky IS in drydock now in Freeport but it’s for 2 weeks plus a couple days. First cruise post drydock is Jan 21. @crazycatlady82 good luck 👍🏻 but try to have a great cruise …. 😉😎🤓
  7. I think you mean the Joy, not Sky. Sky is remaining in the Caribbean this year until October when she crosses the pond from New York to Barcelona.
  8. It's that a lot of people have been taking advantage of the Upgrade biddings that the Haven is now almost always full each sailing, so that was why they extended the American Diner to the Haven passengers on Embarkation days lunch when the American Diner was a paid dining venue that other guests (non-Haven) hardly used. Now that American Diner is a free option it will be used more by the non-Haven guests, and it would be interesting to see what alternative will be offered to the Haven guests.
  9. Not the 220 —> 120V converter but a simple plug adapter if your equipment can handle both 110 & 220 V input. https://www.amazon.com/Unidapt-USA-Europe-Plug-Adapter/dp/B077WCS211/ref=sr_1_7?crid=8KD5U5ELNEE6&keywords=european+plug+adapter+simple&qid=1705332048&sprefix=plug+adapter+simple%2Caps%2C128&sr=8-7 One other thing, the bathroom outlet is for shavers only, and it comes on only when the bathroom light is switched on. Night lights are no use, so bring battery operated tea lights.
  10. yes 👍 This is the one I have in my travel bag …. https://www.amazon.com/Extension-Male-Female-Single-Indoor-Office/dp/B09B177CC6/ref=sr_1_21?content-id=amzn1.sym.e16c80d0-77bd-4ad0-8c6a-0b24e2e4d736%3Aamzn1.sym.e16c80d0-77bd-4ad0-8c6a-0b24e2e4d736&keywords=extension%2Bcord%2B10%2B%2Bft&pd_rd_r=612f21a5-dfc0-4046-a0c4-93d5285daf4e&pd_rd_w=bIwn8&pd_rd_wg=g3LI3&pf_rd_p=e16c80d0-77bd-4ad0-8c6a-0b24e2e4d736&pf_rd_r=9G955K1DDX2VWX3Q4QX0&qid=1705330718&sr=8-21&th=1
  11. @mking8288 Escape??? OP is on Getaway. Here in Bermuda it’s been beautiful sunny calm day today after several days of winds rough seas etc. Looking at weekend of good weather and we have 3 ships calling in on both Sat and Sun!
  12. Yes, but they are Noodles bar, not Asian restaurant. The Epic's Shanghai is both the Asian restaurant and noodles bar.
  13. According to cruisemapper the Sun is heading to SALAVERRY, PERU, bypassing Manta Ecuador. The Sun is due to arrive in Salaverry a day earlier than scheduled.
  14. The Asian restaurants are on some of the NCL ships, but not all: Spirit - Silk Dawn - Bamboo Star - Ginza Jewel - Chin Chin Jade - Jasmine Garden Pearl - Lotus Garden Gem - Orchid Garden Epic - Shanghai's Pride of America - East Meets West
  15. When taking landscape photos make sure the shutter button is on the right hand side of the phone screen.
  16. Yeppers, she is due for one in 2025. Every 5 years, and she was launched in 2010.
  17. Okay, to make things clearer for the OP: April 7-19, 2024 Port Canaveral to Civitavecchia (Rome). March 31 - April 15, 2025 New York to Civitavecchia (Rome).
  18. I think you need to be clearer .... there are dozens Marriott branded hotels in Miami!
  19. Are you implying that none of the above mentioned hotels weren't good? 🙃
  20. So NCL has now removed Valdez from the Alaskan itineraries, to tell you the truth, I'm not surprised. When we stopped in Valdez on June 13th last year we learnt from the tour guide (private) as he was driving us back to ship that it was announced in town the day before (on the 12th) that NCL had decided to pull out of Valdez for the rest of season. NCL itself didn't announce to public until in the evening of the 13th - the following morning (14th). So we, on the Spirit, were the last NCL pax to visit Valdez. This is the excursion we went on while docked in Valdez: Valdez Glacier and Icebergs Tours - Alaska Guide - it was one of the best excursions we've ever been on, ever.
  21. That's great! Perhaps you want to consider a boat excursion with Major Marine in Seward - the 6 hour one that includes Holgate Glacier ...
  22. Hi, when I was researching early last year for our 2023 B2B Alaskan cruises that we started with booking Van-Sew-Van but switched to Sew-Van-Sew after discovering that 1) Vancouver was screaming expensive (sorry Yv) for two nights pre-cruise 2) I was able to score Alaska Air non-stop from Chicago to Anchorage and finding that Chicago was much cheaper than Seattle for the overnight hotel stay near the airport and lastly 3) great tours/excursions in Anchorage and Seward so we spent 3 nights in both Anchorage (1nt) & Seward (2nts) pre-cruise. We did take the train from Anchorage to Seward. We happened to much prefer Seward to Anchorage so perhaps you can switch your cruise to Southbound so you can spend a few days pre-cruise in Alaska, seeing and doing the best of AK before you embark in Seward. The embarkation in Seward is so easy. Seward is a delightful town.
  23. If you are still going on your annual Alaskan birthday cruise next year 2025 please book the Jade that will be calling in Valdez … I will let you know of a private excursion that you cannot miss. It was one of our fave excursions.
  24. Too true! We’re flying out with 2 suitcases with one smaller case inside one. Love love the supermarkets in both Norway & Iceland!
