  1. Is your cruise just to Aust or Aust and NZ? For the latter I'd book mid April, for the former I'd book late Sept. Just check the school holidays.
  2. Just received another email from P&O Cruises - $49 deposit $300 spending money, with ALL eight cruise offers for Inside Cabins only.
  3. Well that is not the reason then. Could it be that it hadn't "clocked on" in Australia yet. We still had grits, lots of sweet pastries for breakfast, sweet teas, etc.
  4. We had a girl working on her first cruise who got very seasick. She tried to work but she couldn't.
  5. Unfortunately, Kingscote wasn't a good choice as it is just the main shopping centre and the surrounding area is mainly rural. Not far from there on the north coast is the beach voted No.1 beach in Australia, where you walk through a rock to reach the beach. I'm often surprised at what is offered on ship's tours. I always think where would I take people in Brisbane or the Gold Coast, not what is offered on ship tours!
  6. Yes I have noticed crew unwell before they were absent. Do they get paid when they can't serve people?
  7. They'll have to give their inside cabins away shortly, with Covid numbers increasing. I recently received an email for a collection of different cruises recently and all the prices were for Inside Cabins only!! So maybe passengers are avoiding inside cabins already. My first Australian cruise was on Rhapsody of the Seas from Hawaii to Sydney, which I loved. I was surprised I didn't receive any offers from Royal Caribbean although I receive lots of offers from cruise lines I haven't cruised with. Maybe it was because it was a Charter, their first ship to Australia.
  8. What a beautiful cabin with a great view from your balcony. Hope you have smooth seas. I'm envious.
  9. That is a shame, as Kangaroo Island is a really beautiful place, but it is the third biggest island in Australia. Before the bad bush fires, we used to stay there annually in accommodation on both ends of the island (Penneshaw, on north east coast of Dudley Peninsula, near the ferry terminal, and at Flinders Chase National Park at the opposite end of the island). Whilst at Penneshaw we would tour the beautiful Dudley Peninsula - beaches, parks, winery, cafe with spectacular views, lighthouse. It has it all for day trippers without the long boring distances. The tourist information at Penneshaw sells local products, which saves you driving to all the individual places throughout the island. If you have a week or two for a holiday, there are other beautiful places to stay, which we do on day tours from our accommodation. Do you know why everything was boarded up and closed? Maybe they are still being effected by the bushfires.
  10. Well done! Bon Voyage for your cruise to NZ in your deluxe obstructed balcony cabin.
  11. Oh that is a perfect age. I'm sure they will value them.
  12. Oh dear. Are your grand daughters old enough to appreciate the value of the pearl necklaces?
  13. Wow that was an expensive mistake. My funniest mistake in Germany was when I bought what I thought was hand washing liquid (photo on bottle of hand washing in a basin) to discover it was starch.
  14. I always felt the Auckland Museum was special because it was a War Memorial Museum. I wondered if original donations had been made in remembrance of the World War.
  15. Last visit Our favourite 3 star hotel in Potts Point, with no daily service, cost $300 for the Saturday night. (Each night had a different charge.)
  16. There are three scenic bus routes from Watsons Bay to the CBD - via North Bondi and Bondi, and around the Harbour. I enjoy them all.
  17. I came from a family of war widows who were supported by Legacy. My uncle never met his father who was killed in the Great War. He devoted his voluntary life to the RSL. So Remembrance Day, as well as Anzac Day, means a lot to our family.
  18. And don't put your umbrella too close to your neighbours. I noticed that people sit closer to their neighbours overseas because of their crowded population. When we holidayed at Meze in France, the German visitors would arrive early and set up their towels and equipment for the day on the waterfront. The only way to the water was to walk over someone's beach towel.
  19. I think the cruiselines make it difficult to compare the benefits on purpose. Extras seem to be widespread everywhere. My daughter paid for her accommodation in full in Times Square in Manhattan. The fine print shows they charge $20US per night extra for use of facilities Belvedere Hotel. (No tea or coffee in room. You have to go downstairs and join a queue. Microwave with no plates or cups, etc. You get the drift. Great location for theatre lovers.) She also is staying at Leo House on 23rd Street. I love that place, but they have limits on how long you can stay.)
  20. Thank you. I know someone who volunteers at local RSL Club selling meat trays. I'll ask him if he has heard of that expression. Maybe it is a NSW expression. ?
  21. At times like this, I'm glad I don't drink. If they ever charge for water, i'll be in trouble as my doctor says I should be drinking three litres a day.
