  1. On Koningsdam, and other similarly configured HAL ships, the designated smoking area is at the Seaview Bar area, which is deck 9 starboard side aft. Smoking is not allowed on the port side of that area, so "all the smokers on both sides of the pool" would not be accurate.
  2. Smoking is not allowed in the Lido pool area of any HAL ship, including Koningsdam.
  3. It was a different smoking world everywhere. Smoking was allowed in land based restaurants and airplanes back then too. Smoking restrictions on cruise ships have evolved over the years just as they have in all other facets of our lives.
  4. And their comment was completely relevant in the context of this thread, plain and simple. No need for a new thread..
  5. I don't see where the poster even remotely suggested starting a new thread about perfume. They were simply making a point in comparing the effects of heavy perfume on some people's health, with the effects of smoking on people's health. A completely valid point in this 'all smoking discussions' thread (IMHO).
  6. Okay, I hear you. Just a brand new term for me. And to be honest, it does sound a bit derogatory and condescending to me.
  7. What is the 'smoking pit'.. is that some secret dungeon where <gasp> smokers are banned to, never to be seen again? We're all familiar with the 'smoking area' on HAL ships, but I'll admit that this is the first time I've heard/read of the term 'smoking pit'. 🤔
  8. Actually, the original question asked about 'free' burgers, hence the ensuing discussion. But I think we've thoroughly beat that dead horse, and we can move on now. 😉
  9. Thanks.. I just took a look at the deck plans for Explorer, and it may be 'Dizzy's' or 'Diamond Club' on this ship.
  10. Great, so the 6:45pm reservations we currently have each night of our upcoming sailing on Explorer should work out just fine... thanks.
  11. Maybe, but using the term 'free' when describing anything on a cruise ship might very well confuse some newbie cruisers.
  12. We have that same plan, Verizon's 'TravelPass'.. But isn't that basically for when you go ashore in a foreign country, and not necessarily for onboard use?
  13. Did you also already have set reservations for each night that you made prior to your sailing?
  14. What's the name of this nightclub, and is it on all Voyager class ships? We're interested because we're on Explorer next April and the venue sounds interesting.
  15. As a general comment here, we all need to remember that nothing is ever 'free' on any cruise ship, or any cruise line. Some items (including some food items) are offered at no additional charge (included with the cruise fare), while other items incur an additional charge at point of sale onboard the ship. It is the 'included with the cruise fare' items that some folks confuse with and incorrectly characterize as 'free'. 🙂
  16. The Seaview Pool on NS is 'supposed' to be adults only, but it is not enforced.
  17. Plan ahead.. fill your water bottles from the tap in your cabin and stash them in the 'fridge' to cool down.
  18. In our opinion, the best water on any of HAL's ships comes directly from he faucet in your cabin, or the water dispensers in the buffet area. And the price is right too!
  19. When does this often mentioned 'Black Friday Sale' typically happen, and how do we know when it's in effect... by just keeping an eye on our planners?
