  1. You will receive iMessages but not regular SMS text messages. With iMessage through the ships free wifi however you will not be able to send or receive photos. Basically iMessages are web based and SMS text messages need a cell signal. I don't use it but I think WhatsApp might also work like iMessage in that you don't need cell service. So if not everyone at home has a iPhone you could all use WhatsAPP to communicate.
  2. Never go by the word of what they tell you. Ask for it in writing or it becomes a case of who said what and can anybody prove it.
  3. I actually can't believe that I didn't know anybody on that cruise being April vacation and I live just south of Boston.
  4. Probably walked by each other and didn't even know. There were some NCL bigwigs on board because it was the first show back. Sounded like from the entertainment side.
  5. Just an FYI when looking for Officers/Crew you may get you answer quicker by going to the NCL Roll Call page and asking on either a recent or current roll call. Then if you find out you can post here. 😀 Not everyone think to get a list to post or sees this thread. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/66-norwegian-cruise-line-roll-calls/
  6. My late wife had cancer and she went through a lot of treatments and surgeries so when we booked a couple cruises we got coverage with pre-existing conditions. They way we understood it basically was as long as you were able to travel the day you booked you would be covered as the pre-existing coverage would kick in. So before we booked a trip we always asked her doctor. He would include it in my wife's medical notes that she was able to travel. It didn't matter if she was going through treatments at that time, but say if she had just gone through say a major surgery and we booked that day and the doctor felt she was unable to travel if may not be covered. We had booked an Alaskan cruise back in 2014. She was scheduled for surgery a couple weeks after we returned but had received her doctors approval to travel when we booked. Unfortunately her condition worsened quicker then they expected and she needed emergency surgery due to her condition just over 3 weeks before our cruise. We had taken out a pre-existing condition policy and had no issue getting it paid.
  7. The don't want you jumping off the back to joyride the ships wake 🤪🤪🤪
  8. All countries that NCL sail to that currently have travel requirement are listed here https://www.ncl.com/travel-requirements-by-country
  9. We did the Bermuda cruise from Boston last year. We arrived around 10a Sunday and left around 430p on Tue. We could come and go as we pleased.
  10. As an FYI when it comes to iMessage through the ships free wifi it will only do text, no photos
  11. Didn't really bother me but one of my my 12yo daughters fav things on a cruise is that ice cream machine 😀
  12. Last April on The Pearl- Fri to Fri Boston to Bermuda- during school vacation week for most states in the Northeast they ran out of soft serve mix on Monday and it was never replaced in either Bermuda or Bar Harbor. They knew they would have more kids then normal that week as one of their stated reasons for starting the cruising season in April is to take advantage of that school vacation week.
  13. FYI there is already an entire thread on upgrade bids. Last posted in on Wednesday
  14. It took us about 35 min each way with Lyft last April from the South Shore. So nice not to have to board a flight before a cruise. Even better only having to deal with going through security at the port.
  15. My daughter was 6 (now 13) when we sailed on The Pearl to Alaska. She loved it. She had a blast in the kids club. There is a Trip Report in my signature below about the trip and I talk about the kids club if you want to read about it. We live south of Boston and it was a quick easy Lyft ride to the port. There is also parking located at the Port with a free shuttle. https://www.massport.com/flynn-cruiseport/ A lot or people drop their luggage with the porters first and then take the shuttle back with only their carry-ons or the driver will leave everything including the rest of the family and take the shuttle back by themselves. I thought about doing the Boston-Bermuda cruise again this April vacation but in the end we are sailing The Epic on the 8 day cruise from San Juan to NYC as it was too good of a deal to pass up. We will definitely do the Bermuda cruise again. Enjoy!!!
  16. Here it is on Google Maps https://goo.gl/maps/mkSXdGwSCkWmmN1U8
  17. It was closed last April but that was due to Covid. I want to say I have read that is has re-opened. If you don't get an answer here check out recent Pearl roll calls here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/298-norwegian-pearl-roll-calls/ If you read through and don't find an answer you could always post on a roll call of a cruise that has recently returned or about to leave and ask there.
  18. I noticed it when I was waiting for a text from my daughter. She had left our room and was going to text me in about 5 min. After 10 I looked at my phone and realized it was not connected.
  19. @Mrdell last year on the Pearl we found that the free Wi-Fi connection would get disconnected every now and then. Not sure if it was the Wi-Fi or the phone disconnecting if you know what I mean. So be sure to occasion to check to make sure you are still connected to the system.
  20. I do something similar. I have an old iPhone set on airplane mode, loaded with music and podcasts, and a small Bluetooth speaker I bring on trips. It's nice to have some music playing sometimes when in your room or enjoying the view from the balcony. I also bring ear buds and headphones so I can listen on the plane or at a beach.
  21. Normal SMS texting will not work over Wi-Fi either on the ship or at home, you need a cell signal to do that. However I know that the iPhone iMessage works over Wi-Fi. You don't even need to be signed into an internet account on the ship, just make sure you are connected to the ships free Wi-Fi. I don't remember if you can send pictures like that with iMessage but you can send a regular text. There maybe other texting type app's that work that way too, maybe someone else knows?
  22. I stand corrected. I have AT&T. I'm surprised that they don't match it. Thanks for the correct info.
