  1. Thanks Ferry Watcher for sharing the information from a front line experience
  2. @Ferry Watcher May they’ll see this
  3. A good person to ask would be @Ferry Watcher May they’ll see this
  4. It's all going to break down to the fine print in your policies. Is your Travel Insurance considered "Primary" or "Secondary". If Primary and your medical happens during the covered period, then you only have to submit a claim to the travel insurance. If "Secondary", then you must submit to your health insurance provider first, collect what you can, then submit to the travel insurance provider. In this instance, even if you're on Medicare, you must submit to them and wait for the denial letter. Then you submit to the travel insurance along with a copy of the denial from Medicare. BTW, most cruise line insurance is secondary when it comes to medical coverage.
  5. I've sailed out of LA, Galveston, NO, Charlston, FLL, Miami, PC, Venice, and Amsterdam. For the most part, each geographical location will have it's own vib, atmosphere, and demographics. Each cruise was different in what each of us would consider to be normal decorum. Many of us tend to tut tut anything we perceive to be different. I have to ask, is that a Them problem? or a Me problem?
  6. Here's a link to Steve's page where he explains Trip Cancellation Insurance and Trip Interruption along with various other issues. Get the Best Trip Insurance Details, Advice (tripinsurancestore.com) I would recommend that you call Steve though and discuss this. My concern would be that your FIL's issues may fall under pre-existing conditions. However, I do believe that Steve may have a policy that can help with this concern.
  7. I believe Princess offers 2 or 3 different levels of plans. Which one did you buy? The answer will make a difference possibly.
  8. too late for "Cancel For Any Reason" and for a waiver for Pre-Existing condition, but neither of those seem to be a concern. Since Steve at TripInsuranceStore is sponsoring this section of the board, why not visit his site at Get the Best Trip Insurance Details, Advice (tripinsurancestore.com) or give them a call at 888-407-3854
  9. Okay, we're getting closer. We now know that you cancelled due to a medical reason and filed for that reason. (FYI this has nothing to do with CFAR in any way, shape, or form) Here is a link to the policy (I think) CW RC Cover Page Ver. 200801 (archinsurancesolutions.com) The policy is administered by AON but underwritten by Arch. Someone else can chime in but here is a copy and paste regarding medical "Benefits will be paid for covered Medical Expenses incurred, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits, subject to the following: 1) covered Medical Expenses will only be payable at the Usual and Customary level of charges; 2) benefits will be payable only for covered Medical Expenses resulting from a Sickness that first manifests itself or an Injury that occurs while on Your Trip; and 3) only Medical Expenses incurred by You within 365 days of the date of onset of Your Injury or Sickness will be reimbursed" Appears to me that the policy will only cover medical that occurs during the trip. Here is the definition of Pre-Existing Condition and look back period “Pre-Existing Condition” means an illness, disease, or other condition during the 60 day period immediately prior to the Effective Date of Your coverage for which You or Your Traveling Companion or Family Member scheduled or booked to travel with You: 1) received or received a recommendation for a test, examination, or medical treatment; or 2) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine. Item (2) of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 60 day period before Your coverage is effective under this policy." From my understanding, which is amateurish at best, the OP may be out of luck when it comes to a medical claim. How much of a deposit are we looking at? May be time to lick your wounds and move on. If the deposit is substantial, may want to consider the CFAR route
  10. First of all, welcome to CruiseCritic. Next thing would be, is there a question that we can help with. The information provided is very limited but there may be options available. As a general rule of thumb though, the cruise contract that you agree to when you sign up for a cruise is that the cruise line has the option to change itineraries at any time. Another general rule of thumb is that insurance is not refundable after the initial 10- or 14-day preview period. Assuming that you purchased the insurance from Viking at the time you purchased the cruise, would be to find another Viking cruise that fits your needs and ask if your purchased insurance could be moved to that travel date.
  11. Agree with vibe. Passport is all you need. Digital works fine. (Side Note: My wife insists on bringing paper copies and that's okay if it makes her feel more comfortable, however, the digital works fine)
  12. Not to defend Carnival or AON but you have 2 distinct and separate transactions in place. Carnival sells cruises. Just like Travel Agents, they supplement their income by selling travel insurance for AON. Carnival and AON are separate entities. When you called to cancel the cruise, the CS rep "could" and maybe "should" have asked if you wanted to cancel insurance. Then again, when they call up the screen to cancel the cruise, maybe the CS rep can't even see that you bought AON travel insurance. Effective communications goes both ways. Many 3rd party travel insurance companies don't allow cancellation, but they do offer to keep the policy live for your next vacation/holiday/cruise.
  13. For you as a resident in Nevada, you file a complaint with your State insurance commissioner. Al states regulate all insurance policies sold in each state. Yours can be found at this link Nevada Division of Insurance (nv.gov)
  14. Thank you for the updated information. Appreciate it. Still confused on what the OP is asking for though. Did they file a medical claim or a CFAR claim?
  15. Have you sought help either thru the appeal process or by filing a complaint with you State Insurance Commission? Insurance Complaints | Missouri Department of Commerce & Insurance (mo.gov)
  16. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something but if you exercise the "Cancel For Any Reason" provision of the policy, you don't get any money back. You are supposed to receive an FCC type credit of up to 75% of your cruise fare. You have up to time of sailing to officially cancel. Whatever else you're supposed to do, I don't know.
  17. I think it all comes down to your personal risk tolerance level. I tend to think of worst-case scenario. What if I experience the widow maker while walking around in Paris? Is $50K going to prevent my partner from possible financial bankruptcy? What if I don't survive? Is there a plan in place to repatriate my remains? If I can get an additional primary plan for $100K in medical that includes $250K in medivac and repatriation for $30 extra, then why not. But that's me. If I never use the $50K lifetime, I'm okay with that.

  19. By parents informing those in their care that there is a curfew and that they expect them to comply with that expectation?
  20. Good morning Steve, Just a quick follow-up. I sent an e-mail to my States Insurance Commissioner asking why Geo Blue wasn't available to residents in Washington. Their reply was cryptic to say the least. They replied something to the effect of, Geo Blue could be available if they met our requirements. WHAT? I replied asking about the missed requirement and never received a response. I waited a couple of years and asked again. Never received a response
  21. The answer to your question is No. Each State has a regulatory agency that monitors and approves who and what policies can be sold in their State. I have the same issue as a resident of Washington State. For some reason (which I have not found the answer to) Geo Blue and these 3 States cannot come to an agreement on a certain aspect/definition/ or whatever to where GeoBlue can be sold to residents of these States. It's a pain for sure. But then again, I am able to purchase a policy that many others cannot purchase in their State. An example is the waiver for pre-existing conditions. I don't have to ensure my entire non-refundable trip costs for that waiver to be included.
  22. I'll stick my nose in here. Have you considered an expat policy such as what I found in this google search 10 Best International Health Insurance Companies in the World (internationalinsurance.com)
