  1. There is no time allocation on HAL. You and your wife should both install the Navigator App on your device. Put your phone in airplane mode, turn on wifi and connect to the Starlink internet on the app. I had no problem sending iMessages and emails during my transatlantic. WhatsApp should be fine. However, if there are satellite problems in Antarctica internet may be impacted for the entire ship as explained by @TravelBluebird
  2. I believe things MAY be different this time because of the damage to the cruise terminal that you documented in your thread. Currently, the most accurate information I could find is in this link. https://www.seatrade-cruise.com/ports-destinations/new-buenos-aires-check-process-after-storm-damages-cruise-terminal Check-in at Pavilion B, Costa Salguero Passengers will check in at Pavilion 6 of the Costa Salguero property near Costanera, where they also will drop off their luggage. Then they'll be transferred to the cruise terminal, where they will undergo immigration procedures before embarking.
  3. Thank you very much! Your photos are amazing! Thank you so much very posting them. (I hope your DH is feeling better too.)
  4. @TravelBluebird @Btimmer The Roll Call for the January 29 departure is getting conflicting information about the boarding process. Is there anyway you can help us by finding the correct information while onboard? We have been told different things from or TAs PCCs and HAL. Some of us have been told: The location for luggage drop-off & holding room is at Costa Salguero and check-in is at the Cruise Terminal Benito Quinquela Martin. There is a shuttle service between both locations. The address for luggage drop-off and holding room is: Centro Costa Salguero, Pabellón 6 Av. Costanera Rafael Obligado 1221, C1425 BUENOS AIRES Others have been told to report directly to the Cruise Terminal Benito Quinquela Martin.
  5. Your thread has been quiet. Hope all is ok. I’m interested in the current embarkation process in Buenos Aires. How did it go for you?
  6. Good Morning from a frigid MD, currently 9F. The snow drought is over; yesterday, it snowed more than an inch for the first time in two years. Two amazing days in Antarctic history. I am getting very excited for my trip. I have read a great deal of nonfiction in preparation. I may have mentions these two titles before but I highly recommend: The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder by David Grann and Madhouse at the End of the Earth by Julian Sancton (Amundsen’s 1st trip to Antartica in 1897). Thanks to all the regular posters. Sending you peace, health and all good wishes.
  7. @USN59-79 Ask My Pronouns It's a simple way to respect identities... because you can’t judge a book by its cover, and you can’t tell someone’s gender by their looks. This campaign raises awareness of gender neutral pronouns and diversity in gender identities, demonstrating that asking someone what pronouns they use is a simple way to show respect. Gender neutral pronouns are singular third person pronouns that function exactly like he/him and she/her in a sentence. Common gender neutral pronouns include the singular they/them. People choose to use gender neutral pronouns for all kinds of reasons. Some examples: To demonstrate a non-binary, trans, genderqueer, agender, gender fluid, creative, and/or gender questioning identity. To indicate that gender is not relevant in many contexts, or to make a political statement about gender. To act in solidarity with a friend or loved one who uses gender neutral pronouns. The gender neutral pronouns they/them/theirs have been used in the singular since at least as far back as the 15th Century: “There's not a man I meet but doth salute me / As if I were their well-acquainted friend” — Shakespeare, Comedy of Errors
  8. You can order room service from the MDR menu as soon as it opens. I hope your DH just has a cold. Thank you for your consideration of your fellow passengers. Your iceberg pictures are amazing!
  9. @Btimmer I really appreciate this thread. Happy to see the lectures are now being broadcast in the cabin. Since you have been to many Meet & Greets…what makes I good one? How can it be made to be conducive to meeting people? I will be running my first one on the Oosterdam during the next sailing. I would really appreciate your insight. If you would prefer to email me, my address is on the Welcome page of the Oosterdam spreadsheet in my signature.
  10. I was able to get small bottles of Perrier with the package in October.
  11. You are not cut off, you just pay for your drinks. The last time I saw “bottled water” from the bars, it was in a can with a screw top, not plastic or glass. However, on the Rotterdam TA in October, the only had cans.
  12. I see a great similarity between the Alfred Adler and MLK quotes. I agree that this is the best way to live your life. “The chief danger in life is that you may take too many precautions.”
  13. “What’s done cannot be undone.” “Laugh to scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth”
  14. I was on the Zuiderdam for Super Bowl 2022 and watch from Billboard. It was fun with passed snacks and an enthusiastic crowd. I am hoping for the same on the Oosterdam this year. I’m not looking forward to this experience when I turn around on the NS in March. Any advice for how to make it a better experience? I have no desire for a tour or need to get off the ship to shop. Thanks for taking us along on your cruise’
  15. Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is safe and warm. Unfortunately, @dfish is without Internet (and TV) so I will be filling in for her this morning. I’ve never made lasagna in a slow cooker. If you are still working or if you have a day full of errands, it would be nice to have a nice hot meal waiting for you when you come home. If you insist on having meat with every meal, it would be easy to add some browned hamburger or sausage to any of these recipes. Super Easy Skinny Veggie Crockpot Lasagna Recipe - Pinch of Yum This veggie crockpot lasagna isn’t pretty. It’s broken noodles and vegetables, sauce, and cheese layered in like thick blankets on top of one another. It uses whatever vegetables you have in your refrigerator. Crockpot Vegetable Lasagna | The Modern Proper Fresh basil, mushrooms, yellow squash, zucchini, spinach, and three cheeses brighten up jarred pasta sauce and no-boil noodles in this super delicious, easy crockpot vegetable lasagna. Slow-Cooker Squash Lasagna Recipe Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself; I love white lasagna (and butternut squash). This recipe trades the expected tomato sauce for pureed winter squash to give this Italian staple a sophisticated upgrade, al dente noodles layered between winter squash, baby spinach, and creamy ricotta and mozzarella. Just don’t be surprised if this recipe tops your traditional lasagna on the list of family favorites. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes.
  16. You cannot see any cabins online for my cruise because it is “sold out”. I called the upsell department and ask the cost for an upsell and what Signature Suites would be available for my move. She gave me 20+ SS that were available if I purchased the upsell.
  17. First upsell offer to a Signature Suite was 2 weeks ago for my January 29, 22 day cruise $1239 pp. I called Friday, upsell is now $699 pp and there are 20+ SS still available, some in extremely good locations I will call again next Friday. I’m hoping for less than $300pp. Last time I upgraded to an SS on the Oosterdam it was $149pp 3 days before a 14 day cruise. The cruise is sold out. People are just being assigned their guarantees. I like my current cabin but would love the additional space for a 22 day cruise. Btw, I believe the Vista ships have more SS cabins than the other classes.
  18. I wonder how they will get “fresh” Pacific yellow tail while they’re sailing in the Caribbean? The spacing on the sides is disappointing. I am glad that there are no upcharges and apparently you can order more than 1 app without an extra charge.
  19. Here’s a link to a specific post. There are others with useful information about the currency situation. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g312741-i979-k14634030-Questions_about_the_Jan_24_general_strike-Buenos_Aires_Capital_Federal_District.html
  20. @Btimmer I have been enjoying your blog in addition to your posts here. I am unable to make comments on your blog so I am posting here. You stated that you are missing the lecturers on sea days. I was very much looking forward to them too. @NorbertsNiece on the previous cruise said they were spectacular. I wonder what happened to them. I appreciate a naturalist giving commentary, not a ship’s employee reading a script. I hope a lecturer joins the ship for the remainder of your journey .
  21. Peach Melba Day reminds us suffering from the cold that peaches and summer will return in 6 months. For our friends in the southern hemisphere, I hope you have some fresh peaches to combine with ice cream and raspberries sauce for a delicious Peach Melba today! Today is a perfect day for black bean soup. I use a recipe similar to the 3rd made with dried beans. @kazu I have a friend that rented a house on Cap-Aux-Meules last summer. They enjoyed nature and spent their time hiking, biking and paddle boarding. They visited local farms and said the produce was delicious. I too am struggling with the final two ports for my Norwegian cruise. As Norway begins to restrict larger ships, it appears HAL is searching for new ports. Fredrikstad has an old fortified town that looks interesting. I have no idea what to do in Farsund. If anyone has any insight into these ports I would appreciate your input. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes.
  22. I suggest you join your Roll Call. Also, if you participate in the same activity daily, you will begin to see the same faces. This could be activities like pickleball, trivia or going to the same bar every night before dinner.
