  1. Thank you. Unless it's my faulty memory you're new to posting here, Welcome aboard. I did get back about an hour and a half ago, and the stiffness in my mouth is easing enough that I'm presently working on a dish of applesauce. I hope it's down a lot more before dinnertime. Roy
  2. I wonder if Serenity still has the Panomax camera. It would be great to see it reactivated. Roy
  3. The Sea Bird at Juneau with a close-up: It should be right next to the Westerdam. Roy
  4. I think the Tracy Arm excursion is targeted for travelers taking the cruise only as far as Skagway and then disembarking for a Yukon-Denali tour. People doing the entire 7 days get to Glacier Bay and do not miss out on a glacier viewing experience and I suspect that is why it is not offered on all cruises. May 9 may have been too early to start the overland tours. Roy
  5. Not necessarily. In 2006 Symphony was docked in Norfolk and I happened to be on Blount's Grande Mariner on a cruise on the Intracoastal Waterway from New England to Florida and stopped at Norfolk, just across the bay from Symphony's Bow. Roy
  6. Today's sunrise is from a 2019 Queen Mary 2 transatlantic. May 23 was our last sea day before arriving in New York: Roy

  9. Welcome back. Sorry for all the issues. It does sound promising that it sounds like you and DH had a good cruise in spite of all the problems. Roy
  10. Happy Tuesday. Thank You Rich, Eva, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann. I guess lucky pennies are pretty much an American thing now since they are disappearing in much of the world. Turtles are interesting creatures and I have loved taffy but not so much any more. Been to HMC just once and unable to tender one other time. This is an especially great day in German history. Interesting point of view by Chbosky. Not sure about the stir fry. My alternative is Pineapple Boat, Rack of Lamb with with Tomato Couscous, and Garlic Pearls, and Black Forest Cake as served on MS Prinsendam May 23, 2015. Not a day I'm looking forward to, dental fillings this afternoon. Roy
  11. It's really more like 4 ships as the 2 NCL ships are there sequentially, and the Sea Bird is less than 100 passengers. I sailed the Sea Bird in 1999 on a Columbia River cruise. I don't have any good pictures but this is the Sea Bird from the top of the Astoria Column: Roy

    Back2Back

I think in many cases Vancouver is like a US port because when boarding you go through US immigration since you are going directly to the US. Kind of like the pre-clearance at most Canadian airports when flying to the states. Turaround is kind of strange because you have Canadian Immigration when returning to Vancouver but US immigration to get back on the ship. It probably is necessary to get everybody off to satisfy the US authorities. Roy
  13. An addition to the schedule. Ruby Princess is tendering today. Roy
  14. At present both ships are near the Tracy Arm cutoff. Koningsdam is stopped meeting with Saint Phillip letting off some passengers to explore Tracy Arm. Roy
  15. It is US Immigration. I think there is a NEXUS line but some have reported that it is poorly marked and the line may be so long that you can't immediately get to the start. Roy
  16. There's a lot of Canada that's very close to Eastport. You could almost swim to Victoria Day festivities. (And wishing all our Canadian Dailyites a safe and wonderful day) Roy
  17. I think you will be fine on the Oosterdam. Roy
  18. Looks like my first post this morning didn't go through. Thank you Rich, Eva, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann. No musical instruments for me and I'll pass on Goth but happily celebrate Maritime Day. Interesting quip for Marx. I have not been to Gerainger. and Johnny was always way past my bed time. I'll pass on the meal. My alternative is Citrus Delight with Amaretto, and Roasted Chicken with Cornbread Stuffing as served on MS Prinsendam May 22, 2015. Eastland is a very tiny city, and Zaandam may be the largest city to visit there. I was there in 2015 on Blount's Grande Caribe. Roy
  19. Apparently only turning around bow facing the dock rather than bow towards the sea. Today's sunrise is another from my 2013 Blount cruise from New Orleans to Saint Petersburg. On May 22 we left New Orleans for Biloxi. Roy
  20. Today's sunrise is another from my 2013 Blount cruise from New Orleans to Saint Petersburg. On May 22 we left New Orleans for Biloxi. Roy
  21. Not sure exactly what's happening but Serenity is backing out of the berth in Trieste. Post update sea trials perhaps. Roy
  22. I think for the first 5 or 10 years drydocks are only required every 5 years so with an inspection by divers at the halfway point so there may not be a drydock until 2027. Roy
  23. I think there is a distinction. In Montana I'm quite sure at some point you got out of the RV, perhaps for groceries or gas. I think at least at that point you truly set foot in Montana. While on Amtrak's Empire Builder I used the same logic with a fellow passenger who had never been to North Dakota. I said she could claim it for sure if she stepped off at the service stop in Minot, even to stretch her legs she could then for sure claim being in North Dakota. A couple of other distinctions. Suppose sailed into New York, spent a night in a hotel, and then boarded a cruise to Bermuda. Could you claim North America? Did you actually set foot on North America or just on the Island of Manhattan? Similarly, most Antarctic expedition cruises make landings on islands just off the coast of the continent. I sailed an very small expedition ship in 1997 and made several landings but only one of them was on the actual continent and it was very icy and treacherous. I would not do it today, but I can actually claim I have been on all 7 continents. How far are you willing to go on bragging rights and how important are they to you? I'm glad I did it ONCE but absolutely loved my 2 subsequent drive by cruises and saw a lot of great wildlife. Roy
