  1. If HAL shorex can’t provide the information, maybe you can try the South America Board. Someone may know there. Is this the cathedral? https://www.facebook.com/people/Parroquia-Matriz-Catedral-Del-Callao/100076896388000/ And PS- I would be asking exactly the same question as you are, likewise so I know I’m dressed as requested. I don’t consider regular “sneakers” ( fabric uppers closed by shoe laces) to be sports shoes: my mountain bike shoes and my running shoes, yes.
  2. Love the quote. My mom used to say one looked like they had “ just dropped their hoe.” This makes me wonder if the pax who wore a kakhi fishing vest on gala night on Zuidie was actually the fish monger.
  3. Thank you for taking us along once again! Last night DH and I watched a fascinating program about travel to the Marquesas. What a beautiful place! I told DH “Bill and Mary Ann” have taken us there many times.
  4. Have you tried emailing HAL shorex and asking for clarification and especially what type of shoes are acceptable?
  5. Good morning all, Adding my gratitude to all who contribute to the Daily. Sending condolences to @ger_77 and @HAL Sailer. We have had some rain! And are expecting more today. Yesterday we packed up our bikes and headed to a local mountain bike park for a bit and rode in the sprinkles. It was devine! Today we’re going to be inside. Happy New Year to all!
  6. Glad to hear your bag is on the way. Good on HAL or the port. I have a non-descript black suitcase that I spray painted large purple circles on. The decorations add no weight and really make it stand out. For places where I want a bit more security I use a bright purple cover and locking strap, to make it just a little harder and take longer to get into.
  7. Good morning all, We have clouds again today and the hope of more rain, although the chances are diminishing.😏 Most of yesterday involved changing a burned out surge protector, plugged in behind my desk. That involved unloading it, rethinking how things get plugged in, and getting some new cords. I still have to finish putting back what I took apart. @Heartgrove Your “engineer gene” is showing!😁 Have a great day everyone!
  8. Brings back memories of the air show we got at lunch in Little Italy last spring. I’m fairly certain we saw a couple of go-around. Dang, they were low, and rather flat in their approaches.
  9. Have there been Mariachis on the mall at the terminal in PV? Pre-covid ( and before the new building went in) they had a large group (at least 25 members- maybe more) performing as we disembarked. They were not there in March of this year. Kazu, I know this probably won’t be of interest to you personally, but someone else in your group might like it. In Loreto we bought a bottle of local wine at the mission. It was really great - I believe a Grenache, can, sirah IIRC. It was home bottled and had a little fizz. Found the picture
  10. This, and the size of this class is why I plan to never board one of them.
  11. I probably will never know the whole story, or the real story. She always told me her folks were Austrian. And not to go looking for relatives. 🧐 The town is in Galicia, which was territory Austria invaded. Family documents I have found through Family Search say both Austria and Poland. Reportedly she was teased as a child, and changed her name at 21. 🧐 At least that’s what she told Dad, many years after they were married and she had to get a passport. I do have to say if it was me, I also might have changed my surname, as it was l-o-n-g and short on the vowels. I can only imagine the spelling havoc in this computer age.
  12. Good morning all! We’re planning a quiet Christmas Eve here, will attend one of the services and have steaks planned for dinner tonight. I had planned to try making some traditional Polish paper decorations but just never started. It was part of my plan to learn about the culture(s), having recently discovered I’m half Polish. (Mom hid that fact, and after she passed, Dad spilled the beans. I’ve traced the family back to the town they were from, and got copies of immigration papers for a few. A great uncle came over on the Volendam.😁) A big thank you to @Mr. Boston for sharing your traditional menu. I was wondering about that, and was disappointed when the local ethnic store had nothing posted for Christmas. Thank you all who are stepping in for @richwmn, and to Rich for putting the Daily together. Happy Hanukah and a Merry Christmas to all!
  13. Good morning all, Happy “ Shortest Day of the Year” to everyone! Today’s plans include taking Dad for a medical appointment then to brunch at a restaurant that has taken over an old fish restaurant that was beloved by our family in the 60s. They closed some 5 or so years ago and up to the end, they had exactly the same menu ( design and items), same placemats, etc. The shocker was the portion size. It had not changed either, and by today’s excessive standards, it was small. There were also almost no vegetables. I’ll have to look on my hard drive for pictures of the port. We also went to Puerto Tombo in 2013. It was hotter than hell. One poor penguin was trying to cool himself down with his breathing. Veendam’s promenade deck smelled spicy due to the hot teak. And you could feel the heat coming through your shoes. @dfish You’ve got me with today’s recipes. I’m thinking I didn’t put enough pages in my Recipes to Try section of my planner. That’s going in with the crisped kale. @smitty34877 Take it easy- hoping you feel better really soon. Have a great day everyone!
  14. Thank you all for suggestions for white wine. I’ve made notes in my planner so we can try each at some point. I ended up with La Crema Sonoma as that is what they had At Smart and Final ( where I spent a few minutes on CC😁). Laura
  15. Good morning all, Not much exciting on the agenda today. Just a trip to the market, Costco and more work on the scanning project. I found 3 more boxes of goodies in the attic and pulled another large stack of photos from them before sorting and tossing most of the rest. Before I head out shopping, I need a consult with our Wine Advisory Board please. We’re invited to our cousins for Christmas, and they asked me to bring wine. I’m planning on Daou’s Cabernet S. and possibly 19 Crimes Uprising ( to introduce them to our current favorite) but I need a white also. I’m not into white wines, and not sure what is on the menu…. So- May I get a few suggestions on a white that is likely to please? I’m looking to spend $15- $25. Thanks! @smitty34877 Wow, you are home, up and doing stairs! Amazing. When I was a student, hip replacement involved a stay in rehab. We used to have to get the whole team to help turn total hip patients on ortho. praying things continue to mend quickly. @aliaschief Sending hugs to you both as you go through a hard day. Have a great day everyone!
  16. O Zuidie last spring I found 3 sets of what appeared to be brand new robes hidden in pairs around the room. They were a miserable synthetic waffle weave. Not the cotton ones from previous cruises. Your comments remind me of the Ice Cream man on Prinsendam ( final voyage). I was going to comment that the port has provided tenders in the past, but I see @Copper10-8 already did. We noticed them while we waited our turn to be cleared and go ashore. That trip little Veendam was the 4th ship to arrive in the wake of 3 behemoths. We were delayed over 2 hours. The showroom at sea was packed, and the natives were restless. Our CD started an impromptu game of trivia ( only one I’ve ever been to) and was giving pins away like water. The priest stepped in and helped with organizing and trying to help keep people content. ( I noticed he helped at each port with getting people off and keeping them happy.)
  17. In case it helps, the Walmart Supercenter in FLL has a rollator available for pick up. Address is: 2500 W Broward Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312 Curbside pickup In-store pickup Cost is $97 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Rolling-Walker-For-Seniors-Rollator-Walker-with-Seat-and-Wheels-Black/14179110?fulfillmentIntent=In-store&athbdg=L1100 When I had my “great piriformis adventure” and ended up in the ER at 2:30am a few years back, I used one like this for a couple of weeks. For me, the seat was at exactly the right height to allow me to sit comfortably.
  18. Yikes on the piriformis. By chance, are there foam rollers available in the gym? I’m assuming you used them when you were dealing with your piriformis….
