  3. i been to a few these ports myself. here is a quick map i draw up to help you with this: Boston: Bus area is to the left of the cruise terminal building, off the side kind of like: Portland: The gangway can be long. Buses is in the parking lot area near the Visitor center Halifax: Right in front of the terminal building Sydney: Bus is in the parking lot near the ship Charlottetown: Similar to Portland, Buses is the parking lot near the entrance of the terminal building. can be a long walk
  4. Yes and i also remember a band called Fire and Ice. it was on the breakaway back in the day
  5. like other people had in this thread, i had issues with the room steward charging the bottle as a mini bar purchase to my onboard account and then i had to go guest service to get the charge removed and be credited correctly for the free water. to avoid all of this hassle it is a lot easier to go the bar and pick it up
  6. Next year i am doing a Bahama cruise on carnival. on a mock booking i just did, port taxes and fees is 15 dollars higher today.. i wonder what carnival will do to me so far royal is the only forum with this kind of news
  7. when you place a bid for an upgrade you are like booking a guarantee cabin where they can put in anywhere. this is common among all cruise lines with these bids. some are good and some are bad
  8. Its official. here is the official press release from NCL: https://www.ncl.com/newsroom/norwegian-cruise-line-announces-extensive-enhancements-to-norwegian-joy
  9. FOR NOW!!!!..with these changes being made, i wont be surprised at all if in the next 5-10 years or so Norwegian will do the same thing to the port side and leave only the forward part as the observation lounge. Converting only the starboard side seems more like a test to see how well the ship reacts with added passenger capacity
  10. GSC tendering is very different compare to other tender ports. At GSC they have tender boats that somewhat looks like a ferry boat. Where as other tender ports like Newport, Rhode Island and Bar Harbor, Me the ship uses a special lifeboats that are designed as tender boat. It is at these tender ports that make big ships like Prima and Oasis class impossible to tender I also been to tender ports where the ship contracted out those whale watching boats to be used as tender instead of using the ship tender lifeboats
  11. book the fixed costs restaurants first like moderneo, teppanyaki and then al la carte places like cagensy, la cuccia, etc last onboard the ship you will the wait staff you are using the dinning package

  13. Norfolk terminal is closed in 2024 for renovations https://www.virginiabusiness.com/article/carnival-to-double-trips-from-norfolk-proposes-year-round-cruising/
  14. if you do not have a passport, then yes you will need a birth certificate and a government issue photo id. not all states have birth certificates with a raised seal. that type of seal is not required
  15. i use my OBC for shore excursions. due to that, it can be sometimes cheaper to book from the ship vs on my own
  16. its lost, never to be found again
  17. The Norwegian Joy will be drydock in January 2024 with the following changes: Galaxy Pavilion is being removed and will be replaced with a Thermal Suite Laser Tag area is being removed and will be with a expanded vibe beach club on Deck 15 the port side of the observation lounge will be replaced with 24 new balcony cabins. The observation lounge will now be more crowded with less space. a very sad change 😞 with the new terminal suite they will be new spa cabins the only source right now is from a FB post that i saw being posted around in various groups
  18. that is check in time, the time you arrive at the terminal. that is NOT your boarding time. Boarding will be begin at the usual time of around 1130 after you check in, be prepared to wait in the terminal for a few hours
  19. not the first time this has happen. here is a thread from last months about this issue:
  20. a few months ago i did a cruise on royal and i saw passengers with those pinnacle name tags, similar to ambassador name tag .. this problem is not unique to norwegian
  21. yes it is possible to have it separate. when you check in online, it will ask you about payment method for the people in your room. guest services onboard the ship can also help with keeping separate with a different payment method for everyone
  22. this is why ships skip port when there is heavy gusty winds
  23. hopefully all of the rain will not ruin the sailway later today. rain is on/off all day long
  24. there is no shuttle from the airport to port. taxi, uber, etc is the only way
  25. yes you can bring soda. cans only. 12 cans per person embarkment usually begins around 1130ish by the pool they will be life jackets for the kids and a towel station to get towels. in your room they also be blue towels that can be used on and off the ship
