  1. Skip Los Lobos and go to your local, authentic Mexican joint. No value on NCL. Among the three you listed, I would get the filet at Cagney's
  2. It will depend on wind conditions/direction and ship speed/heading relative to wind direction. This is not unique to Getaway. It would apply to any cruise ship.
  3. We are using Emerald Princess out of Brooklyn NY this fall. Expecting something different...maybe not as good Broadway shows, but thankfully no laser tag, go karts, waterslides consuming acres of open deck space. 4 freshwater pools, too. All at a very competitive price point.
  4. This problem will continue to manifest itself as they routinely offer 2x, 3x,4x latitude points on select sailings. All of a sudden a cheap 15 day transatlantics cruise can yield 60 points.
  5. If past behavior is indicative of future, these sailings are cancelled or significantly adjusted. You just have to wait for your official release. For anyone with nonrefundable air, etc, better to secure a booking with a refundable deposit on Carnival Venezia, just in case. Sad you would have to do that, but this is how NCL behaves over and again.
  6. No, never, not even a chance. If you want free lobster, you wouldn't want to sail NCL.
  7. Ugh, lots of tender ports, but a nice itinerary. Someone should tell the people at NCL, who reportedly take immense pride in creating extraordinary vacation experiences, that reservation systems are programmed by human beings. If a human enters inaccurate and incomplete information, the system returns the same. It would be unfortunate for someone that has mobility challenges as they may not be able to negotiate tenders in a safe manner.
  8. Poor design of this class of ship creates huge bottlenecks inside during periods of high demand - cold weather. The thought is that if you book a warm weather itinerary, the problem can be mitigated somewhat as passengers are more evenly disbursed in and outside the ship.
  9. I am glad to hear you have absolutely no issue. Except many traditional bathrooms have a sink. We prefer to have the opportunity to wash our hands immediately after using the bathroom. On Epic, you have to touch doors and curtains before you can even get to a sink. NASTY.
  10. There will be little demand to disembark the ship at 6am, too. So, you shouldn't have to contend with lines. Be aware sea conditions can get rather rough up there, as they were for us pre-Covid on Jade, so your ship may need to reduce speed which could impact arrival time.
  11. Glad we don't need a QR code. My dinosaur dad doesn't even have a smartphone. He wouldn't know what a QR code is.
  12. Of course. You have to consume it onboard. The industry is evolving and many customer service focused cruise lines are allowing customers to utilize on onboard credit in advance to purchase things they will consume onboard. NCL is delayed in keeping up with industry standards.
  13. No. You have to research this when booking a cruise. Look at the sailings for your ship one month prior and after your sailing dates. If there are posted sailings for sale, your ship is not scheduled for drydock.
  14. Yep, drinks for us, too. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
  15. They used to have a nice included selection on the non-District ships, I remember drinking a lot of Kona Big Wave Golden Ale pre-Covid. But, yes, on a recent cruise the selection was pretty bad. The above list is pretty much what you will have. We did find Hoegaarden on tap at O'Sheehans and in Maltings which was a nice surprise. I really did enjoy that beer!! I also found out that they have a gluten free beer in bottles. I was scanning the refrigerators while sitting at the bar and saw a bottle I didn't recognize. I asked the bartender and he showed me it, but the name escapes me. He said no one ever drinks it. I thought it was nice they offered a gluten free option, though.
  16. I certainly understand your frustration. You would hope to be rewarded, not penalized, for your loyalty. Sadly, as others have pointed out, the targeted marketing is done in the name of maximizing profits, not loyalty. The only option I see is to respectfully communicate your observations to Carnival and then choose a different cruise line that better matches up with your expectations for your next cruise. In our opinion, Carnival has allowed it's loyalty program to degrade to one of the worst loyalty programs in the industry which further supports the notion that they are thriving on first time cruisers. They talk and talk about how they are studying it, but all they need to do is look at their competition for guidance, many of which offer valuable perks like mini bar setup, complimentary beverages and specialty dining, free laundry service, etc. All loaded onto your account automatically. It really isn't rocket science and doesn't have to be overly complicated. They could just give an OBC to be used at the VIFP member's discretion and do away with the luggage tags, cups, VIFP parties, etc.
  17. Thanks for the review. Jade is a great ship. Not too big, not too small. Classic cruising without consuming space for laser tag, waterslides, virtual reality, and go karts which creates lots of space on the ship for passengers, as you have noted.
  18. Annoyed at who? Norwegian? The airline? Themselves? The overall situation? It ok to feel annoyed given the situation. But, eventually they'll come to realize that they made the best of a most unfortunate situation.
  19. Some on here have some pretty "far out" theories. But hey, post whatever is reality or fantasy in your world.
  20. What a strange comment. What are they going to complain about? Someone lost their life, here. Notwithstanding, do you think coming on cruisecritic to complain about NCL would be top of mind at this time, anyway? Lots of valid complaints against NCL. This ain't one of them.
  21. No, Carnival was just out in front of it more than the other lines. Lots of heros that day including the passengers that had to wait and wait for their vacations to begin....those stuck onboard who had to wait and wait and wait for theirs to end, many of whom have still not arrived home....the crew who undoubtedly worked hard for those remaining onboard and then immediately scrambling to embark new guests...and, of course, the first responders and pilots out at the Port of Miami.
  22. How many courses would you expect enjoy for $50? Most main courses are $30 and $40 plus a mandatory 20% service charge for your convenience and mine. They do? We've never seen specials onboard. They do offer them pre cruise which is why the poster is trying to book the reservations now and use the credit onboard.
  23. Its an onboard credit, likely nonrefundable. People needed food, water and something to do this afternoon while the unexpected was happening. Agree it is a nice gesture and more than the competition.
  24. Nah, more likely they just followed Carnival and the other lines. Agree It is a nice gesture.
  25. Lots of things to like about NCL....communication not one of them. Never has been a strong point. They'll apologize and then tell people to file a claim with their travel insurance for any monetary losses.
