  1. Does anyone know what time the last group was called? We also have a later flight and I still have to arrange transport back to the airport. Would rather leave the ship a bit later than sit in the airport even longer.

If all goes well, the last passengers should clear the ship somewhere between 9:45 A.M. and 10:00 A.M.

  2. Can you tell me some more about cruising at Christmas? What do tbey do special? Is Santa onboard? We are bringing our 5 year old. Any advice on decoating the cabin? Advice on Christmas morning Santa? We are in a forward suite on the Breakaway Christmas 2016. Thanks for any help!

Yes, there were a number of special activities over Christmas- Gingerbeard villages in front of the restaurants, a number of fully decorated Christmas trees including a Tree Lighting Ceremony. Santa was in the lobby on Christmas morning, kids sitting in his lap for photos and handing out gifts- the line was long. Officers lead Christmas carol singing on Christmas Eve. With Christmas being on a Sunday this year, things might be a little different and it is planned by staff may vary from ship to ship. I have heard of people bringing small decorated trees for their cabin.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise. I had so much fun that I will be returning to the Getaway for Christmas this year. As a widow, I had a lot fun watching all the kids on Christmas morning with Santa.

  3. I have just had my 28th Norwegian over Christmas on the Getaway. All I can say is: WOW WOW!! Best cruise ever and certainly the best Christmas in a very long time. What a joy and an honor to sail over Christmas. Crowded Yes, Lots of kids<YES. Most of them were very well behaved. I think that sailing on the Getaway over Christmas is going to become a new tradition for me. The Hotel Management staff was amazing. THANKS GUYS FOR THE BEST CHRISTMAS IN A VERY LONG. I can not wait to be back Christmas 2016.

  4. Is that the only re-furb? what about cabins (balcony), etc. thanks! Thinking of going Oct.'16..We like smaller ships...any and all info about this is appreciated.

    TYIA.

She had a long list of things to be done.

We mostly talked about the Lounge and turning some of the Inside cabins into Studio Units and a few other things.

  5. Can you let us know where you found this info? I too was curious as I saw the original thread about it being refurbished. We are on the Sun in May.

I had dinner with Senior Sun staff and the lady who is the Project Supervisor for The Sun in late September off this year. I have know the lady for a while and the dinner conversation was The Sun's dry dock and what would and would not be done. Other new carpet and safety lights, nothing else was on the Lounge's list. I very specifically asked about the Lounge.

  6. I would prefer to go before the refurb, because I also read a rumour that the observatory lounge might be turned into suites. Not sure if that is planned or not. That's a deal breaker for me. That's why I don't cruise on the Star or Dawn. I love that area of the ship. I do book a balcony, but I love the views from the observatory or Spinnaker on the jewel class ships. Besides, I've waited a while to do the South American itinerary and I'm impatient. Not sure I'll be using the Aircon- [emoji6]I think it could be cold[emoji6] I'm always adjusting the temperature up in my cabin on cruises. Hoping I don't get sick. I've never had the flu. Hopefully this trip won't be the first time.

There will be NO change to the Lounge except new carpeting.

  7. I have done a full Canal transit twice on The Pearl. The first time was from Miami to Vancouver, B.C. (21 days) and the second time was from Los Angeles to Miami (14 days). If I were to do a full Canal again, it would be from LA. Coming from the West Coast it puts the Canal near the end of your cruise rather than at the beginning.

Either way I would suggest that you read David McCullough's The Path Between The Seas The Creation of the Panama Canal 1870-1914. Very well documented book and very detailed.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

  8. Did you have fun on your Thanksgiving Getaway cruise last year? I was a big fan of Joel Sanchez, the cruise director at the time.

The menu was the same every night. For dinner, the Haven Restaurant was never really crowded. Whenever I had a craving for lobster, I would just go and be seated asap. Breakfast on the other hand, it will be crowded on sea days.

Yes, Thanksgiving cruise was one of the best I have ever had.

Yes, Joel is one of the best CD's.
