  1. The Glow Party is held on the larger ships (Breakaway, Getaway, Escape) about 10:30 P.M. one evening outside. Very large very loud and lots of fun. Yes- kid friendly.

There are comedy shows that are kid friendly and late night comedy which are not.

  2. All of the shows on The Gem are FREE.

You will receive a newsletter each evening in your cabin to tell you what events and shows are scheduled for the next day, what time and where.

You can make dinner reservations each day at the Reservation Desk in the lobby, if you wish. Minus one or two restaurants, you might not need reservations.

Enjoy your cruise. The Gem is a great ship with a wonderful staff.

  3. I have sailed 7 times on The Getaway all but once in a Studio. Loved it. Will be doing 22 straight days in December.

I very rarely use the Studio Lounge. You can ask at each restaurants desk to be stetted with others. Be sure to sign up for the Roll Call for your cruise and attend the Meet and Greet. Both are excellent ways to meet people that will be and are on your cruise.

If I had a choice between Teppanyaki and Ocean Blue, Ocean Blue no question.

The most important thing I can tell you is to relax and joy. The Getaway is a wonderful ship and has a great staff from the Captain on down. Have fun.

  4. If I remember correctly, the Enterprise Rental office is a distance from where The Jewel will dock. I think they picked me up at the ship and then brought me back.

Yes,you can drive to Cannon Beach it is about a 20 to 30 minute drive depending on the traffic.

Tillamook is about 75 or 80 miles south of Astoria. I would not make the drive with the time frame you may have.

  5. Usually the person who starts a thread for a particular cruise, makes the arrangements for a Meet and Greet. Norwegian sets the day, time and place for the M&G and provides light refreshment- pastries, coffee, juice, etc. Usually the Senior Hotel Management attends and on rare occasions the Captain.

The person setting up the M&G will sometimes plan other events for the group who ask someone else to do it.

The M&G's I have either hosted or attended last about an hour.

I hope this answers your questions.

  6. I have not sailed on the Breakaway but I have sailed on The Getaway several times in a Studio cabin including over Thanksgiving. You will have a great time.

I love being in a Studio. One of the things I love is that you can adjust the blinds to the window (looking out to the hallway), so that one can look in and you can use the light from the hallway as a night night. These are inside cabins, so they can be very dark.

I do not use the Studio Lounge very much, but it is a private gathering place and you can sign up for dinner dates and other activities.

The Breakaway should be full of people over Thanksgiving. If you are a football fan, there will be games on the screen in the Atrium and FREE hot dog stand most of the day. At least there was on The Getaway. Ate way too many hot dogs and barely could eat a traditional Thanksgiving dinner (complete with green bean casserole) in the Main Dining Room.

    Have a great cruise.

  7. Me and the DW will be taking our first Alaskan cruise this summer. Do any of you have pricing details on spa massages? We've been on Carnival a few times and they usually had special spa pricing while in port. Does the Jewell do the same?

Yes, there are usually Spa Specials on days when the ship is in port. Have no idea what the pricing for this season will be.

Because of the history, my favorite port is Skagway.

Enjoy your cruise. I will be on The Jewel again in May of 2017 for Her first cruise of the season out of Seattle.

If you can stay in Seattle a couple of days.

The Jewel sails from right downtown Seattle past the Space Needle built for the 1962 World's Fair. The Observation Deck is woth the trip up there if you are not afraid of heights.

  8. I've booked a solo on deck 11 and wonder about the lounge, like, is there a door to get into the lounge on that deck ? Or is it on deck 10 ? The ship deck plans don't indicate ANY doorway that I can see, just a curved stairwell in the upper left corner.

I would also like to know if I need to bring a hairdryer, or if one is provided. I didn't see one in the 360 degree video. Although I did notice 2 doors, but there were connecting cabins on deck 10, maybe that's why 2.

I also wonder about restaurant seating in the complimentary venues. Do they have a special table that they park solo travelers at or do they automatically seat you at a regular 4 seat table, and leave the other 3 seats vacant ?

Every solo review I've seen on CC says the solo lounge was devoid of humans, save the occasional room steward, and that they very rarely saw one of their solo cabinmates as they came and went, night and day. Is it difficult to meet people on NCL ships ? I've only cruised Princess and it was easy to find friendly people. Of course, that may be because I'm a happy, friendly person and not because Princess passengers are actually friendlier. I've heard that on some cruise lines the cruisers have a tendency to be "reserved". No one would ever call me reserved, although I do respect boundaries. What is the general temperament at NCL ? (It's a February caribbean cruise, so that would probably make most of the passengers North American)

I also saw what looked like a beverage station in the Studio Lounge photo, and even some pastries in a case. Any information on that would be very welcome !

    Thanks,

    kristine

When will you be sailing? I am doing a three week cruise in December over Christmas in a Studio on Deck 11. Sometimes, I eat alone and at others times not. You might want to go to Guest Services and sign up for "Dinner With An Officer". It is free and usually a very interesting evening.

  9. In July there are all kinds of community celebrations in downtown Seattle both Saturdays and Sundays to say nothing about all the weekend freeway or street construction projects, traffic can be a nightmare.

SeaTac airport is a good 15 miles south of the downtown area. I never booked a flight out of SeaTac returning from a cruise before 12:45 P.M.

  10. I am curious as to how that would change anything? The ships do not need 3 hours to turn and depart, and I can envision no way in which two ships could use the same terminal in the same day. Also, some ships turn before docking, so they wouldn't even need to turn to depart.

Every Saturday and Sunday there are at least 5 cruise ships and sometimes more docked in the Port of Miami. It is a little like air traffic control: one ships leaves, there is space of time, the next one leaves, space then another. All takes time.
