  1. I am about to head out on my 27th Norwegian cruise always as a solo passenger. I love the fact that I can have dinner at a time of my choosing and where I what to eat. Sometimes I join others, sometimes I don't. I don't need to "dress-up" unless I choose do.

I have sailed on the "Jewel" class ships and on the Getaway. Each has their own vibe and each are equal in many ways.

I hope you find something that fits what you would like and you enjoy the experience.

  2. You're probably right...

The ships that have some type of "bridge viewing room" that I am aware of are the NCL Spirit, Pearl, Gem, and Epic.

Other ships include the RCI Voyager class with their "Peek-A-Boo" bridge overlooks, and the Cunard Queen Mary 2 with a bridge viewing room.

If there are more out there, I would like to learn of them....

It is my understanding that they have not made more of them because of crew objection...they did not feel comfortable being under scrutiny most of the time.

The windows from the rooms to the bridge were covered at night to preserve the night vision of the crew, but the duplicate nav screens were always open to view.

The Jewel class ships have Bridge Viewing Room windows ( Pearl, Gem, Jewel, Jade) and The Spirit.

  3. We're sailing the Jewel in December but our port is LA sailing to the Mexican Riviera. We've never sailed the Jewel but we did sail the Pearl and loved it. Hoping people who have sailed her will post here.

When your Port Itinerary says Los Angeles, they mean San Pedro which is a suburb of LA a little to the south.

I was on The Jewel this past May for Her first cruise to Alaska. Had so much fun with now friends I met on that cruise, that we are doing the 24th of January Mexican Rivera cruise. 183 days and counting.

  4. I will be sailing The Jewel in late January out of San Pedro and can not wait.

The ship is very very with lots of space especially in the pool area. There is a large covered area across the aft of Deck 12 outside of the buffet to eat, people watch and just relax. Lots of people go out there to take sunrise and sunset pictures.

I was on The Jewel in last May and love it. The staff is wonderful.

I think that you and your family will have a great time.

  5. Thank you for this -very helpful. I will book a tour.

If you have not, please join the Roll Call for your cruise. You can make friends prior to the cruise and get suggestions to help along the way.

Go to The Roll Call Section, scroll down to The Pearl and find your Roll Call. The Roll Calls for Panama Cruises are usually pretty active especially this close to your cruise.

    Have a wonderful time.

  6. As a solo passenger who has been to Cabo San Lucas a couple times, I would not wander out to the port area on your own.

Two suggestions: (1) Post a request on the Roll Call for your cruise. You might find someone that room on a private tour for you or you might find another solo cruiser interested in something.

    (2) Look at the excursions Norwegian offers and pick something. As a solo traveler in her 60's I always book through Norwegian waiting until I board and able to ask the Shore Excursion staff questions.

Have a great cruise. I love The Pearl. I am doing a partial Panama Cruise on Her in November of 2016.

  7. Cruising can become addictive. I went on my first cruise in January of 2008 on The Spirit. In late May I was on the Getaway for the 5th time and my 25th cruise in total. At the moment I currently have 5 cruises booked and trying to figure out how to add a 6th. I am booked on the Sun in late September, back to back on the Getaway over Christmas, The Jewel in late January and The Pearl in late November 2016.

One cruise at a time is fine. I understand that Regent has a 128 day Round The World coming in 2017. That is a little over 4 1/2 months on a very small ship. I am not so sure about that cruise, it would be fun though.
