  1. I'm not sure why you think my comment was judgmental. It was purely observational as 3-4" nails seem difficult to complete daily care routines.
  2. I had an old friend visit this week. She wanted to make a Mary Lou Retton leotard for an 80s party. We talked last night until 4:30AM. Got back up at 8:30 and kept talking. Got her leotard made (it looks great!) and talked more until she left 4-ish this afternoon. I should crash very soon.
  3. When we went on our first vacation in almost three years in the fall of 2022, I did gels for about two months. By they end, they were too long for me, even though they weren't all that long. I'm just so used to short nails. I've seen some women use the tips of those super long nails to type. I always wonder how they do self-care. . .
  4. On our TA last fall, I spent mornings in Good Spirits. Coffee, crossword puzzles, novels, and CEUs for my RN license renewal. My favorite thing to do on a sea day is to find a shady spot somewhere (anywhere) and read whatever book I brought with me. Sometimes it's in the pool area, or the promenade, or our balcony. Of course, there's usually a drink-or two-in hand.
  5. We just booked a December cruise after the final payment day. Shortest we've ever booked. I'm gonna guess the ship is full since there were only *three* non-guarantee balconies available. DH and I both thought it was crazy expensive, but booked it anyway. Got an email about bidding on upgrades--all suites. I guess there are a few empties. We have a Northern Lights booked and there's been a price drop, but not enough to bother my TA (less than $100).
  6. #2 because I'm more stable in wedges and they're more comfortable.
  7. Took DH to church this morning and it took it all out of him. Then he grilled (steak, potatoes, and one of our last squash) and he is whooped. He says he overdid it. I go back to work tomorrow, so I suggested he take it easy. It's an up and down process that is completely normal as he learns what he can and cannot do.
  8. Great location! We could see the Elizabeth Tower/Big Ben from our room. It was too dark-themed for me (black walls in our room), but other than that was OK.
  9. We just booked a December Caribbean cruise. I will be escaping work-Nov/Dec just sucks the life out of me. We are going to do a lot of nothing since we've been to all these ports before. We will be in our first-ever aft cabin. DH is doing well. He drove to the mail box central station (about 1/4 mile away) and did OK. He is still learning what he can and cannot do.
  10. He has a regular cane-I think it was his Dad's. He should only have to use if for a couple of months. And he'll get rid of it as soon as possible.
  11. We took the day off from everything. It was pretty easy since we are hiding out from Ophelia. She's been pretty easy on us, just 2.25" of gentle rain so far, but it is still raining. Not too much wind. DH is getting better with his cane-actually using the way he's supposed to. He cooked dinner tonight (veggie beef soup) and cleaned the kitchen. He keeps telling me to go back to work to cure my boredom, but he can't drive yet and I'm not willing to leave him home all day yet. He might do something I don't want him to do yet. . .Men. . .
  12. He had an anterior hip replacement due to femoral head collapse. And I slept wonderfully! He is very non-compliant. He wants to be further ahead in his healing process without following all the steps properly. He is doing better than I thought he would. He tends to be a bit melodramatic--I call him my Drama King-so I didn't really know how he would do. He got through PT today with just tylenol, no narcotics. Plus, he actually learned how to use the cane he'd been using incorrectly.
  13. I just finished The Alice Network. What did you think? I think it would make a great movie.
  14. We are post op day #6 and DH has survived so far. He went home about four hours post op. I kept him on a round-the-clock narcotic schedule until we slept in Friday and took a dose late, making it off schedule for the dose before physical therapy. He was miserable Saturday, but turned a corner Sunday. He's only taken one narcotic dose since then (before yesterday's PT). We were told he'd be on the walker a minimum of two weeks, but the therapist told us to bring his cane Thursday (post op day #8) and he may progress to using it. Since he's dragging his walker around the house and not using it properly, it just might be a better choice. His dressing comes off tomorrow and then he'll have to see the staple line. Overall, he looks good with minimal swelling and bruising. I'm doing OK. Bored out of my mind since I'm just about as house-bound as he is. I've been sleeping on the couch downstairs in case he needs me at night, but since he's been up at 3am the last two days making coffee, (without his walker, mind you) I am going to move back upstairs and sleep in my own bed tonight. I also get my laptop back! (I don't use it downstairs since there's not a desk) And it's so nice that it cooled down enough to open all the windows and breathe fresh air. It's been in the 50s at night, 70s/80s in the day. Perfect weather.
  15. Well, I've been off for a couple of weeks. Trying to get used to spending time downstairs (and away from my laptop). DH has his hip replacement this week. It seems like we scheduled it months ago, but all of a sudden it's here. I read several pages of posts and will be back when I can. He's a giant wimp, so this may be stressful.
  16. That is crazy. Ours is going up too, but this is one race I'm happy to lose.
  17. I don't think I'm going to complain about mine--it's a little more than half that. Are you in northern or southern (where HIlary is probably jacking it up)?
  18. My DDs, DGD, and older DD's SO went up to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a quick weekend trip. I don't have any editing programs (yet) so these are straight off the memory card. Just a girl thinking (Triple Falls trail) This tiny butterfly hung around her forever My grandmother's maiden name is Crabtree, so of course we hiked to Crabtree Falls.
  19. We're on the Sep/Oct 2025 Northern Lights too! I can't wait--it's another bucket list to (hopefully) check off.
  20. I'm guilty of this for years, but have seen far too many people not wash their hands after leaving a bathroom stall. Even if you don't do anything but adjust clothing, it you touch the slide lock, your hands are dirty. Every other nasty hand has touched that lock. As an RN of close to 35 years practice, super clean is impossible. Just wash your hands--soap, running water, and friction are all that is required--or use a sanitizer. Don't worry too much about other things. (No, I did not read either article/link)
  21. That's almost as much fun as our 0800 flight on our last cruise. Good thing the airport's only 10-15 minutes away.
