  1. Friend's of mine used this company, upon my recommendation, and were very satisfied -- https://www.gojiffyjeff.com/shuttle-transportation-services/
  2. Does anyone know Raye (as in RFerrington -- intentionally not tagging her) ? She was a frequent poster on Bella's, as well as on the general board. Never here, but I knew her "name" even before I've started this thread. Just curious, since I've always appreciated her posts.
  3. I count myself as really lucky that I had my parents almost "forever". Dad was 85, mom - 93. Both -- cardiac arrest. Painful, shocking, but swift.
  4. Of course, I remember it vividly. "They" were targeting a nearby army base, and were constantly aiming at Ramat Gan and Tel Aviv.... Those were 6 weeks of scary times. Mostly, we feared chemical weapons. Every time the alert went off, we had to put our masks gas on, first to the kids and then to us... 31 years ago --- After the "scud war", we decided that life is too fragile and took the kids for the first time abroad. Since you're mentioning NY and the Statue of Liberty, that's were we went, and, of course, WTC 😪 Hope so too. I was thinking about your SIL when we minded the grandkids last week in Modi'in. We're passing "her" abode every time we enter and leave the city, and, of course, can see it from their balcony.
  5. For a first time trip to Europe, I'd start with Italy, Spain and Greece ("beginners"). I consider Iceland, the fjords and the Baltics as "advancers".
  6. Budget wise, we preferred to take a taxi to Canada Place instead of paying the inflated prices of the Pan Pacific & al... Very much enjoyed L'hermitage. https://www.lhermitagevancouver.com/
  7. Bay of Islands was the only port we missed due to very heavy rain.... Thanks for the pic 👍
  8. Toda, Bonnie. I have no idea. She called the hostess with "don't wait for me... the 2nd floor is on fire...", but later, she texted her that neighbors told her there is a company which deals with all the smells and soot, and they'll not need to deal with those issues by themselves. Other than that, she's also quite technologically challenged, and the communication with her is iffy now... No. If you can afford, you insure your house. 2 types of insurance -- the building itself, let's say for earthquake, complete destruction and re-build; and personal belongings. For example, my cousin who lives in Germany, but owns an apartment in Tel Aviv, which she rents, she's paying insurance for the building, water and fire damage, and the young couple who rents pays for insurance personal belongings. BUT, the state pays for total destruction, damage and financial loss (for private business) in the event of hostilities, war, etc. Thanks, Pat. I'll show hubby [when he is not busy following the Mondial...] those. We always disconnect electrical appliances when leaving the house for more than a few hours, but, after yesterday, I'm quite afraid. I like my clothes as they are. I've invested a lot of "thinking" [and money] in them... not in the mood for a shopping spree, thank you very much....
  9. @ReneeFLL My friend has very nice orchids and I've thought about you 😘 This morning I've met again our group of HS friends. At the last moment, one of them had a fire at her house. All is well, besides their master bedroom [2nd floor] and roof above, totally burnt, they have no clothes for now.... Luckily, she was still home, having coffee with her hubby, before leaving for our meeting, when they noticed a strange smell, followed closely by small explosions. Turns out that their TV's wall socket was faulty, over heated, and, from the heat, the deodorants which were nearby on the vanity table, exploded.... That's the table set for 5, and then there were 4... 😪 ... and us, with the dessert and fruits. Our hostess has very green fingers, that's the wall on her balcony [beautiful weather, no snow] ---
  10. @ownedbypets Hopefully, you've seen Jim's reply. His email is in his posts. I knew he lives nearby, and is always a very helpful guy.
  11. Many many thanks for taking the time from your vacation to reply in detail, Jim. I really appreciate it, and I'm tagging the mom @ownedbypets 🌼
  12. ** Off-topic** Hi Jim, May be you can help... I have a long running thread on Royal's boards, and one of "my" long time posters, @ownedbypets, is looking for advice --- Thank you in advance, Dani " My daughter is a travel nurse and starts a new contract on Jan 2. She will be in Palo Alto CA at Stanford Medical and there aren't very many Airbnb close to the hospital. Can any recommend any nice, safe cities that are near there? She doesn't have a car so she will be using Uber. Thanks! "
  13. Thank you so much, Deb. You have no idea how reassuring this is. It was really heart breaking seeing him crying buckets. It went on for quite a few minutes, he just cried and cried, not uttering a single word. Really appreciate your reply 😘
  14. Our hotel in Rome asked for 140 Euro for a private transfer to port ("Civvi"). In the end, we were 3 couples from our roll call, and paid 170 Euro for the six of us. And, I wouldn't recommend the train with luggage, stairs, etc.
  15. Mark, may I ask how is your daughter doing? Is she already in the "middle of the road" in regards to the protocol she's following? Any "mid-term results" so far? She's always in my thoughts.
