  1. We have the following day's menus on our table at dinner as some 'specials' are ordered the night before so it helps to know what the following day's menu is. I would imagine the paper is recycled and if not, I'm sure someone who knows better than I, will be along to tell us if it isn't. Take a tour of the galleys. Then you'll see how much care is taken to reduce as much as possible, the impact waste has on the environment.
  2. The day I see swim wear in the Commodore is indeed the day Cunard will have changed forever. Luckily, I can't see it happening but I do agree the James Bond blurb is winceworthy! I have been lucky as I've never seen 'screw you' attire in the restaurant [QG] ever. Yes we've seen slightly flamboyant outfits [male] on occasions on a Gala evening but the clothes never detracted from the wearer as the wearers wore them with aplomb. We loved them and looked forward to the next outfit and here I have to add what others wear has very little bearing on our own enjoyment. As to lectures, we've had the pleasure of meeting a very famous ex astronaut, and even in his late eighties, his power point lecture and Q&A session were both quite fascinating. Rather that than a lecture on clothes, unless it was a history lecture of clothing through the ages which I would love but would imagine would have limited appeal. It's different strokes for different folks.
  3. Or it could be to do with one of the additional automatic 'niceties' in QG cabins. Our ice bucket is filled every day.
  4. Thanks to you too *Miss G* for your commentary. We're so fortunate with all the feedback at the moment. A tip for the Harrogate water bottles. Boil the kettle and when near boiling, pour onto the screw cap. It expands and loosens it sufficiently to open with out the need of superman in the room to help out.
  5. Exactly my thoughts unless an outfit is particularly striking and I was complimented on one of mine by a fellow passenger who said she 'loved it the other night too'. Luckily, I love it too so happy to take the compliment.๐Ÿ™‚
  6. There used to be that same evening dress [and evening trousers] rule here too but having already revised the house shoe rules pre Covid, after wearing particular favourites more than once in May, I am revising the evening attire house rules too. Should make packing easier. ๐Ÿ™‚
  7. Not obvious so thanks for clarifying. If you are boarding today, I hope you have a super time and will tell us a bit about your experiences.๐Ÿ™‚
  8. Me too especially when referring to a supposed target passenger profile for QA. On our May cruise, the one after yours, the average age profile was the highest I think I've ever come across on a Cunard ship and that includes Round Britain trips where snoozathons with occasional snoring is a valued afternoon pastime in many public areas. Definitely the highest number of mobility challenged passengers too. I will be interested to see how this progresses into next year and the year after.
  9. I agree and having found I wore favourites pieces twice and one, three times on the fourteen nighter you and I were on last month, I intend to cut down on 'just in case' clothes next time. Maybe! ๐Ÿ˜€
  10. I'm reading mixed messages too. I got the impression Kordy is boarding today but as he/she is giving an account of this cruise as if he/she were on it, I can't tell if it's a b2b.
  11. and lamb shank. Always cooked to perfection and delicious whatever the sauce it's braised in.
  12. Thank you for taking the time, to take us with you. I've thoroughly enjoyed this thread. Safe onward journey. ๐Ÿ™‚
  13. Grilled octopus . Thank you NE John .That's one I've not thought of. I'll ask for that on Annie with an aioli dipping sauce and see if it's available.
  14. We are due on our second QA cruise later this year. Difficult to put into words but basically, it's Cunard and it's different, but it's also, Cunard and from your description, it sounds as if you might enjoy it. One thing is for certain fluffybunny22, no one will be complaining about you. I know it's not until '25 [we have '25 booked too, and '26!] but look forward to it and when you board, enjoy.
  15. and when it's hot, the chairs can wear jackets now with no metaphorical eyebrows raised! ๐Ÿ™‚
  16. That is a very fair comment and I respect that and agree the evening dress code has certainly changed and I would have been very happy to keep the standards of when we first started travelling with Cunard but, your added comment in brackets referring to my bringing up the nasty comments when the hot and tired passengers embarking were said to be looking like customers of a perceived downmarket supermarket bears out the fact I am still astonished at the fact that's not offensive.
  17. Not even the comments [before removal] on the photos of hot and tired passengers ready to embark being likened to customers of a well known US sort of discount store? Goodness me. I am very surprised. Just shows how the same world can be viewed from different perspectives.
  18. I think if you read the first paragraph in #37, and the whole post, it isn't just about this thread. Condescension runs through many a dress thread and one wonders why folk think 'will I fit in'. There have been some downright unnecessary comments directed at fellow/would be fellow passengers over the years but thankfully the unpleasant ones removed.
  19. Of course there's nothing wrong in lamenting the past, wanting to maintain traditions and sharing their past experiences of a Cunard even just ten years ago [we loved the three 'codes when dressing for dinner by the way]. Heavens above we as relative newbies dress up to and beyond the 'advisories' [no tie with jacket tho' on occasions๐Ÿ™‚] so hopefully, maintain and will continue irrespective of what fellow passengers wear. The arrogance and condescension comes when getting personal to other passengers views, indicating basically, they are not up to snuff because they are willing to embrace the new and do not lament the passing of the old as much as others do. A good example is indicating 'we' would experience angst if the old was brought back. Codswallop. ๐Ÿ™‚
  20. We dress 'well' and like a few balanced CC members don't let others' attire affect us other than to admire stand out beautiful outfits, male and female but some of the comments on present passengers attire make me smile Mareblu whereas I laugh at others. I have had my share of snippy retorts removed in the past too. Probably understandable as I can be very snippy with arrogance! ๐Ÿ˜€ If folk used the word 'changing' when lamenting the past and objecting to the changes, I would have every sympathy with their feelings and attitudes but dumbing down? No. It reeks of condescension and it's that kind of arrogance non Cunard passengers associate with Cunard when they worry 'will they fit in' if they book. Answer is of course, Cunard passengers are lovely and the few diehard attitudes displayed here to the Cunard tweaks will not be translated to attitudes onboard. So wear a suit instead of full black tie on gala nights but be prepared to eat in the buffet if you don't want to pack either and don't be concerned at wearing a shirt and no jacket or tie on the other evenings.
  21. I care, we care as we've found a way of holidaying into our older age which requires very little effort other than to pack a couple of cases and transfer to Southampton for a, what to us, is a luxurious break for a couple of weeks. Yes there are and will be more tweaks but if the hardware is still the same and the staff as delightful as ever, we can put up with the tweaks. It will be interesting to see if those who rail against the tweaks, still continue to holiday with Cunard in the coming years.
  22. And yes... some of us have been sailing with Cunard for rather longer than most on this board I suspect and naturally resist the continued dimunition of "our" line more than newcomers might. and I am most definitely a newbie in terms of decades of Cunard experience. To me, as a non Cunarder and relative newbie, it seems to me the powers that be have decided Cunard needs to change a bit for the times we are now living in and if the tweaks mean the line is still around for the next twenty odd years, I hope I too can become part of the furniture and that sits well with me.
  23. but what's exciting for me [Asian street food] won't be exciting for others so menus are totally subjective and the beauty of ordering what you want far out weighs being excited by something on the menu which isn't exciting for all. The chef can excite you by preparing something...which excites you. That's the beauty of QG's ordering off.
  24. and also, to be fair, if such a Gala schedule offends, there seems to be the option to cancel the cruise without penalty for our US friends.
