  1. Almost everyone around here is wearing jeans in all the restaurants. Many are wearing shorts. I live in Cowtown. They have rodeo events in my neighborhood. We have a different standard. Different culture. I never pack shorts when visiting the UK or Europe. Or white sneakers.
  2. I was wondering with the new boss if the PUP program will continue.
  3. Someone I travel with walks ahead really fast, does not pay attention and disappears.
  4. If you have AT&T or Verizon you can buy travel passes for $10 a day and you will have internet everywhere in Bermuda. That is what I have done in recent years. No worry about WiFi hotspots.
  5. That must have been a long time ago as HAL has not sailed to Bermuda in December for over 20 years at least. I don't like the winter months because beach weather is a priority but you probably docked in Hamilton and or St. George. At least you would have been able to walk to restaurants and the departemnt stores that are now long gone.
  6. They look good and they were expensive. I donated them to a non profit that helps out men starting out who need clothes for professional jobs I don't know if there is much of those jobs left though that require them. Maybe just the interviews?
  7. No one can predict the weather but NCL is the only mainsteam cruise line that sails to Bermuda in December, January, February and March and last winter about half their sailings had to divert from Bermuda because of rough seas and high winds.
  8. I love Bermuda but there is reason why winter is the off season there and the airlines cut service or don't fly there. There is not much to do unless you golf as all the water related busnesses stop operating and the beach concessions close. I would be bored in Bermuda in December as I love beaches. That is why I keep mentioning the temps. A lot of people don't do their research and think Bermuda is in the Caribbean and has a tropical climate. The public ferry only runs from the Dockyard to St. George from May through October.
  9. I didn’t put on any weight and still fit into suits from 50 years ago but they may be out of style. I recently moved and didn’t want to move everything across country so I donated clothes so someone who might wear them obtain them. I certainly kept a couple of suits and a tuxedo plus a bunch of sports jackets for just in case but honestly I have not worn the suits or tuxedo for a number of years. I have worn the jackets a few times. The problem now with cruises is that I don’t want to pack them. I have downsized to minimal packing. But I am not saying I won’t ever change my mind.
  10. Well I would notice baseball caps because I have never seen one in the MDR for dinner. That would be unusual. Shorts I have sometime seen but I didn’t notice because diners are sitting down. There was a lady passenger I saw on a few cruises who wore a captain’s hat to dinner and never took it off. I batted an eye at that.
  11. Isn’t that for spying on kids? That app requires a cell phone. If they are using their phones they already have multiple ways to find their partner without that app. If they are going to be using their phone they can share their location several ways. The easiest thing to do though if they get separated is text each other.
  12. Those are not meant to track people. Also require cell phones. Cell phones have location built in. So if they have their phones with them and on a cell network they have a people finder. Both Apple and Android phones have location sharing that can be turned on. Of course the simple method with phones is they could text each other.
  13. It might reach 70. That is warm to you? December is one of the months with the least sunshine in Bermuda. I get the feeling though they mostly want to be on a ship so temps and sun in Bermuda don't really matter to them. Getaway is a going to have plenty to do onboard and there is some chance they will be rerouted in December because of weather conditions. I am just giving them realistic expectations. They could luck out with weather in the 70's, sunny days and calm seas in December. But on the other hand....
  14. I advise against a taxi from the Dockyard. That would cost about $65 each way. Expensive. The Dockyard and the Swizzle Inn are on almost opposite ends of Bermuda. Buses to the Swizzle Inn are not direct so if you did buses you would have change buses in Hamilton. The best way to get to the Swizzle Inn from the Dockyard is a ferry to St. George's and then a $20 taxi ride or a bus from St. George's. If your cruise is on NCL they run a free ferry to St. George. The next best if the ferry to St. George's is not running is a ferry to Hamilton and then a taxi, $25 or a bus from Hamilton.
  15. As long as she has no expectation of sitting out in the sun on the beach she will be fine. By entertainment I presume you mean onboard the ship?
  16. December is off season and an unusual time of year to sail to Bermuda. What ships did you sail to Bermuda on 11 times? What did you like about Bermuda in December?
  17. Your cell phone. For heaven's sake don't take a US walkie talkie. You might end up in big trouble if you use it in another country. Those are licensed for use on US radio spectrum by the FCC in US states and territories. You might be interfering with EMS or police frequencies in another country.
  18. The other thing that has not been mentioned is that the first day out to sea and the last day back to New York it is not going to be warm so the pool deck on the ship is out. I did NCL Breakaway out of New York in December and we didn’t use the outside deck much. Also my balcony was pretty much not used as it was freezing on it when the ship was moving.
  19. I would not want anyone to fix it. The lava boulder is a natural feature. They should leave the natural beach path alone. And I doubt that the tour operator could fix it except by not having a beach excursion there. Tour operators usually don't own the beaches they take you to. If the ship found another tour operator to the beach that would not fix anything. The only fix for the ship is not to have excursions to that beach. I have been to seven or eight beaches in Curacao and have yet to find one that did not require water shoes. I never take my Tevas off on the beach or in the water. The beaches there are rocky.
  20. Tobacco Bay is about a 15 to 20 minutes walk from the ferry dock but if you can’t walk it you can take a taxi. You might have to walk 5 minutes to the town square to get a taxi. To get from the ferry to Crystal Caves you must take a taxi or a public bus.
  21. The Town Crier has posted on social media that on Monday May 1st and each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday through October, the Gossiping Nagging Wench will be Ducked at Ordnance Island, St George’s, at 1:00 PM
  22. The locals don't consider it beach weather but since you are from New England that may not the same for you. The beach concessions that exist at a few beaches (chair rentals) close at some point in the winter. I am not sure when. The air temperature should be pleasent for touring.
  23. They are referring to a ferry to St. George’s from the Dockyard. For the public ferry that is the Orange Route. If you are on NCL they have a free ferry.
  24. I am assuming that your state has a tipped minimium age like my state does. The server definity gets screwed here if we don't tip the servers. The minimium wage is $7.25 here and have a tax on sales. California and Washington have higher minimium wages and might have done away with the tipped minimium wage. I don't know if they still have tipped minimium wages or not.
  25. International visitors to cities that get tourists like San Francisco, New York, Washington DC and Florida are stereotyped as low tippers because those visitors do tend not to tip much or at all because they come from cultures where tipping is not customary. Servers definitely recognize Australian, British and New Zealand accents. So since their expectation is low for a tip those visitors may get less service than middle class Americans. I have known a few servers and they hate British tourists. They think they are cheap. I explain to them that servers in the UK get paid a living wage so tipping is not expected there and the tourists can’t conceive that servers get a low tipped wage. Since the servers won’t expect much I guess something could be said for fulfilling the expectation since the tourist is unlikely to return.
