It is my experience they want everyone booking in times whether fixed or not so they can coordinate better. It makes sense as a business but as a diner I like flexibility and to eat when I wish. Some nights early (5.30-6pm), some late (8.30-9pm), most mid sessions (7-7.30pm).
We have NRMA travel insurance, no real issues, yes they need a lot of detail but they paid out fairly promptly (within their time limits).
As I have always said, you never know how good something (TAs, Insurance, etc) is until you have an issue and how they respond is the measure.
