  1. What a saga. So glad you got back home safely.
  2. The Palace of the Winds is splendid but why did they build it next to such a busy road?
  3. Always strikes me as odd that Venice never describes itself as the Birmingham of Italy.
  4. I'm sure that's true. But the photo was taken in July! 😊
  5. In 2019 on our tour of India we would smuggle stuff out at breakfast and give a few stray dogs a treat. I know you can't feed all of them; that doesn't mean you can't feed some of them.
  6. At least in Ireland forecasting the weather is simple: It's either: a. Raining b. About to rain c. Just stopped raining
  7. Ah. The Celtic Brotherhood working in mysterious ways again.
  8. Reminds me of a song/nursery rhyme popular in Belfast when I was a little 'un: (To be recited in one's best Shankill accent) Skinny malink melodian legs, Big banana feet, Went to the pictures, And couldn't get a seat When he got a seat, He fell fast asleep, Skinny malink melodian legs, Big banana feet. Doesn't make any more sense 60 years later.
  9. Got one last week. Seems pointless without text. Very strange.
  10. But it's not all about you. Clearly Saga regulars would, in some/many cases, like their library back. That was the point at the start of the thread.
  11. Anyway, this whole digression rather misses the point that some people like to browse the library for books to read during a voyage. That some don't want or need to do that is irrelevant. Some will take their own books, others will use a digital reading device but it is clear that for some the loss of a stocked library impinges on their enjoyment of the cruise. Without books the library just becomes an empty room.
  12. What have they done with all the books? Do they no longer have them? Has access to original tomes been denied?
  13. That seems to be the urban truth concerning the etymology of salary but isn't founded on documented evidence. That salary derives from the Latin for salt is tenuous when explained by the canard of a soldier's method of payment. In fact, they were paid in sisterces with which, of course, they may have bought salt. Libraries with no books? O tempora. O mores!
  14. From Latin: Liber - book Librarius - relating to books Libraria - bookshop. From whence we get library. So nothing can really be described as a library in the absence of books.
  15. That sounds about right, DW. 4 years ago I did 4 applications, one each for me, OH, S-i-l and B-I-L. It struck me as odd at the time that it was a shame that they made the application process so flaky. Not one of the applications proceeded smoothly although, in the end, I got them all done. And the evisas for the 3 British passport holders were each twice the cost of mine (Irish). It's almost as if they don't want visitors.
  16. Now if only those notable luminaries and celebrities did more of the former and less of the latter. ..
  17. Hey, I'm from Belfast. And I've experience of 3 other war zones: The Falklands, the Balkans and Detroit.
  18. Unfortunately the link to the study shows only declarations of results without showing the methodology. In medical scientific terms the study is worthless without the complete paper to examine. It reads as a bit snake oil - ish. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lansea/article/PIIS2772-3682(22)00046-4/fulltext Clinical outcomes statistically marginally better for NO users.
