  1. It’s the ladies prerogative, got to keep you gents on your toes! Although Brownie points to you as you did think of asking the question.
  2. They have completed the restoration of the boat lift at St Omar in France, similar but older and smaller and in England the Anderton Boat lift plus Scotland and the Falkirk Wheel. We’ve taken a boat through two visited and one. The guys are now working out how to take a narrowboat to the new one in Germany. I really don’t think it will happen as a few beers have been imbibed so far.
  3. Sorry but there is something that could throw the water level calculations out as in out of kilter and it depends on the size or even existence of ballast tanks on each vessel, and it’s the number of passengers. Just a few difference no problem but say 8, 10, 15 etc and then the weight comes into play. I suspect not a challenge on newer vessels but older ones maybe. I’m no navy architect although I am proud to say they did train me at the start of my working life.
  4. I don’t mind lights being cancelled for genuine reasons maybe some groups are ‘beginning to actually see the light’. Although Blackpool have had a bit of forward thinking evidently every light bulb has been replaced by LEDs so far their light show is still on.
  5. *Miss G* thank you so much, what a refreshing insight into your river cruise so very different from any other I’ve read, full of vim and verve and dare I say excitement. It’s wonderful to look at a river cruise through a new set of eyes and yours were certainly wide open. Thank you.
  6. I must admit I’ve noticed recently many separate Viking questions maybe they could be rolled into one as it were as in the Roll Calls section where there is a separate Viking Roll Call and all the rest are general River Cruising Roll Calls. I’ve never added them up but there must be many more users of Viking than other river cruise lines because of their number of vessels. Although it is quite interesting reading the Viking questions I sometimes wonder if their explanations either on line through their sellers or in their paperwork is as clear as it could be. Although this could be just myself I tend to read absolutely everything. So Babyjax12 there is a separate Viking Roll Calls section if you want a specific question answered. Good luck !
  7. Interesting is this a case of don’t —————- with a barge pole, or beware!
  8. Daisi yes we sold our narrowboat not so long ago, rheumatoid arthritis called a halt to our narrowboating. I cannot say how sad it made me. So I now I keep up with the canal by discovering its history and heritage.
  9. The smart noisy one is a Coot. Again super photos loved Zain’s Shans when we were there.
  10. Wow now that looks like a really good site.
  11. 16 locks in a straight line known as Caen Hill in the middle of the 29 locks of the Devizes Flight, hard work it takes hours. All I have to do now is convince DH that we need to go to Canada again.
  12. Daisi thank you so much it’s lovely to see another canal, I’ve been trying to find a particular picture I have in our archive of Dundas Aqueduct on the Kennet & Avon Canal and although it has a crane rather than the wheel thingy and chains it could be the same area. We don’t usually get the super foliage but we do have it slightly this year because of the weather conditions earlier.
  13. Look them up on LinkedIn.com/company/riverside-cruises a bit more info but didn’t see a floor plan. It’s in German and English.
  14. *Miss G* I really must compliment you on your camera work excellent eye ohh and enthusiasm super!
  15. Advice from DH for your future health and well-being go for the middle deck the higher you go the less noise and no potential falling out with the person heading for new knees. You keep in extremely well with your Queen of the realm and you’ll really enjoy a good nights sleep on your first couple of nights, win win to me.
  16. Friends have just returned from a Scenic two for one cruise it was I’m assured an absolutely ridiculous price, in the right way, plus no skimping on the services. They flew business with all the frills no problem. I’m just waiting to meet up to get the full story. If I were you I’d contact Scenic phone or email and ask!
  17. Rudesheimer coffee is not to be missed.
  18. Excellent advise ural guy a long past (sad to say) friend of ours filmed everywhere he went but always forgot to switch off his camera he put together a film of - Pavements of Europe - quite a fun evening game.
  19. Your right Steamboats as I see it the only way to make a 3-4-5 night viable is to be part of a land or other river, shall we say ‘adventure’. Plus for us ladies a very handsome German - English translator, I’ve already got mine!
  20. Elegant lines of the sightseeing boat but the bird is a real cutie. Like your reports thank you.
  21. We’ve spent many happy days and weeks in Florida the Teddy Bear Museum in Naples went a few years ago but I especially send my best wishes to the guys in Key West who complimented my DH on his moustache it’s really white and once on the boardwalk exclaimed ‘cool moustache’ for an Englishman in the US he considered it somewhat of an accolade. Keep well we want to come back.
