  1. Oops I meant glamping didn’t check the predictive text ‘again’. They’ve even got a glamping section at Worthy Farm now aka Glastonbury.
  2. Look at shoes with Gortex, I’ve had mine for many years and worn them around the world. They are Italian and my feet are grateful to them.
  3. dacf say hello to Calgary for me, we were there some few years ago now after our wandering through your absolutely beautiful country. River cruising is so different to Ocean cruising. Depending on the company less than 200 or 160 people on board as opposed to hundreds on ocean cruising. Bored in the evening why? get to know your compatriots there is usually a host to keep you entertained, enjoy a cocktail or an exotic coffee. Okay from what I can see maybe River Cruising is a little bit more hard work than Ocean cruising but what the heck isn’t that part of life’s rich pattern?
  4. Last time we flew long haul was just and I mean just before covid we landed at Heathrow on March 1st BA not a bad flight. Prior to covid I would have said BA all the way, don’t touch Virgin with a barge pole - last time I flew with them they said there cupboard was full so couldn’t hang my coat and Chris Ackabuse was sat behind me his laugh haunts me to this day. My best long haul was Singapore Airlines. I’ve flown cattle class and ha ha up in the bubble with more different airlines than I can name and regardless of anything it all comes down to the staff and their training. Good luck with your choice!
  5. Just, most probably a daft suggestion have you tried routing through Canada. When we started river cruising some Canadians were booking through the U.K. you never know. Fingers crossed.
  6. Whichever company you cruise with please let them know if you are leaving the ship and when you expect to return, apart from being courteous it’s to do with the security of the vessel. There will always be someone on duty either the Captain or his designated other, someone has to be available to be in charge of the vessel regardless of where your are moored. P.S. would you like strangers prowling the corridors whilst you sleep!
  7. I love Avignon on our second cruise there, well this was close. now off to sort and digitise a load of slides taken in the 60s and 70s of our canal, sounds boring but you never know there may be a few gems. Cruise well all!
  8. Have a great time, rain till 2.00pm Monday but not to heavy, gusty showers so smooth sailings, enjoy.
  9. Queen of my heart don’t worry, cruising on the Thames in 15 ton narrowboat we encountered a regatta as we passed a rowing eight race started so much closer than being on the side of a river as they passed, the sheer power these guys produced was astounding. It was a privilege to be there.
  10. Yes they really dislike our fishermen who still try their hardest not to land there.Mind you remember the problems with the volcanic ash!
  11. Okay are there rivers in Iceland? I don’t mean frozen ones. I was away as well in not such an exotic place so only caught the end of it.
  12. I know not helpful but may give the a push if they don’t - on Scenic you can!
  13. How in- Netherlander like, must have been really not nice for you.
  14. Australia your going to have to keep your Lions in order or I’m not coming to visit https://news.sky.com/story/five-lions-escape-sydneys-taronga-zoo-forcing-it-to-issue-code-one-alert-and-rush-overnight-guests-to-safety-12736165 Problem is those cubs do look so cute!
  15. And your fellow guests not so many but easier to relax with, enjoy!
  16. Yup sorted but here’s the question - does the bug fly or crawl! This from someone who read satellite downloads from an oscilloscope, haven’t we come a long way from then. Mars here we come - when they’ve sorted the river cruising of course.
  17. Well the lads went to the Hornby model museum last week, trains, scalextrix the lot a guys fun time, us girls went Christmas decs shopping at a huge garden centre. I've had a hairdryer with a brush attachment, quite useful although I know some companies are not happy with customers using equipment with a heating element.
  18. I’d say always regardless of how you book keep an eye regularly on your intended flights whoever books them. AirFrance changed our bookings without informing ourselves or Scenic and the return landed at Birmingham U.K. and not Bristol U.K. luckily I caught it, imagine your car at Bristol about 100 miles away from Birmingham okay not far in USA terms but disastrous in U.K. terms. I like the expression buyer beware any company can have challenges.
  19. Notamermaid yum’. Dreamchaser21 yes you will need a continental adapter. There also should be a hairdryer in your cabin ahhh but you said a special one, can I be really nosey and ask why it’s special?
  20. This could be interesting I love the way the German language incorporates words. Oh and my grandson goes to big big school next year (Senior) and has already decided that his second language will be German evidently because none of the family are really fluent in French and Grandad still remembers a lot of the German he learnt as he worked for a German company.
  21. We seemed to have a minor covid surge here in the U.K. but it’s resolving itself, lower covid and higher flue and similar. An interesting situation maybe something we can learn from, worth keeping an eye on.
  22. Yup we had our covid booster and flue at the same time albeit in different arms, my friend also had her pneumonia as they discovered it got missed during covid lock-down. I’m no expert but she was told the cocktail seemed to help all three, she had no side effects at all. At my great age I remember having to have some ‘what sounded to me’ weird and wonderful mixtures of vaccinations to travel to different countries where infections were endemic. I’ve never caught anything out of the norm so if it’s keeping me on this planet keep needling away!
  23. It’s most probably the one we had to wait at one year for the boat travelling upstream the clearance was in inches. Interesting experience.
