  1. I know this is not a river cruise report but could a similar thing happen in the worlds rivers. Now am I really starting to feel just a little sorry for this company? https://news.sky.com/story/cruise-ship-passengers-stranded-at-sea-for-days-after-biofoul-discovered-12778181
  2. Happy New Year all I’ve just binge watched the fireworks around the world, well a lot of them. I’m now receiving messages from far flung family members, wow the wonders of the internet. So my glass (full of Tasmanian fizz) is raised to all have a superb new year.
  3. Daisi enjoy your double checking all the excitement over again. Fingers crossed everyone for a clear bug free year and all the rivers flowing deep enough, clear enough and free enough for everyone to enjoy. p.s. You don’t want this cold flue whatever it is take it from me it’s so debilitating it’s not true. Happy New Year all.
  4. There are lines who offer excursions that a basically pay as you go as far as I know no line insists on you paying for excursions. Interesting question though.
  5. Yet another wall it’s across the park from the book shop which we couldn’t go into because the queue was to long. Quirky family gifts just choose the birth year. It was included in our escorted tour and ran out of time.
  6. MV interesting review. I can well understand the non canal/river person feeling that more locks/licks get old unless your interested in the differences between locks or are a canal engineer, I find the sheer size of the European locks amazing. Loads of photographs did you have full permission?
  7. Well here are my five eggs, we went with Scenic and if you have Maria Elaina as a guide you’re in for a treat. In Porto don’t miss the sardine can shop really quirky, at the stock exchange go up high to get the full effect of the floor, try as many freebies as possible in the market and wonder at the most beautiful tile work in the railway station. That’s only the start lovely cruise, super people, enjoy!
  8. If you’re unsure about a dress while hubbies shirts, jackets, trousers are being completed ask for some silk dress lengths. I was offered many years ago in Singapore and took it up. We did look smart with my dress matching his cummerbund and bow tie.
  9. I’m sure that river cruise staff go on special brain enhancing courses for remembering drinks orders and passengers names most companies seem pretty good at it!
  10. Scenic has slow walker groups which as an avid photographer I make full use of.
  11. Keep well and take care all with these weird weather systems. For some obscure reason I often feel that when any river cruise coach passes we should wave but wouldn’t those on board think we were weird?
  12. Obviously there are still some good guys, oops and gals in our wonderful world this Christmas tide, well done Uniworld there’s no better advertising than that.
  13. Pretty pretty love your red squirrels. We now have lots of rain, steady not drenching.
  14. It’s on that tube thingy you know what I mean they recorded ‘I want to hold your hand’ and ‘She loves you’ in German. You could set up a link and listen whenever you wanted to. I saw the Beatles live at Portsmouth Guildhall they were a support act to the Everly Brothers and a few months later as a support act to my all time favourite the Stones, that was a dancing in the isles evening much to the horror of the guildhall staff.
  15. More to do with trying to be as green as possible without being over the top intense about it. Okay some may not agree but a balance is better than none at all. Merry Christmas all.
  16. Okay that was the 7.30 in the morning temperature with no morning sun although the temperature did not go above 3 degrees all day. Still I kept really warm dressing the tree all glitter & twinkle.
  17. Is this the south west of England the temperature in my back garden is -9.6 at the moment, so I’m not going out!
  18. Relax and enjoy yourself, don’t rush, take a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
  19. No notices on the U.K. site (as yet) but could the download thingy be tied up with data protection? Just a thought.
  20. Maybe it’s something to do with having to positively request the brochure from the website to get it posted that causes this seeming anomaly.
  21. Thank you maryogreen brought back lovely Seine memories. We’ve moored next to Tauck boats a couple of times over the years and wondered through them and about them and thought they may be worth a try eventually.
  22. Hi Jazz thought I’d give it a try although I’ve got them all and .com is still showing unavailable, interesting!
  23. I have been told it is extremely bad luck to change the name of any vessel but they seem to do this fairly regularly to river cruise boats. Okay so they are bought and sold regularly but where’s the ‘jumping up and down three times turning around and the bottle of bubbly breaking’? Story from local yacht club some years ago (husband member of fishing division) Commodore in the lead of a race on his boat ‘The Magic Flute’ he took completely the wrong route and subsequently lost the race so he changed the vessels name to ‘The Magic Decoy’.
  24. Our youngest daughters dog is an English Pointer rescued from Spain she was very nervous but is now getting better and better today was her very first snow encounter. It involved a lot of barking licking paws and needing just a few cuddles. According to my grandson she has now completely worn herself out learning how to play with it.
  25. We have actual real snow, how exciting - to watch from the window but kids and dogs are loving it I know it’s not a lot as other countries and the snow angels would be a bit wimpy but we haven’t seen any of any depth for some time around here.
