  1. We know how to appreciate the finer things in life!
  2. We’ve bitten the bullet and booked our next cruise with Scenic of course, to cruise the Seine again. Whilst on the line I reported some of the challenges that some in North America are having with the website there. I was thanked profusely so hopefully it will be passed on which I was assured it would be. I’m so looking forward to it.
  3. Pity they are a superb company to travel with.
  4. It’s much more fun wandering through another vessel it’s quite interesting having a sneaky peak!
  5. Fully agree with gnome12 we’ve only ever in all our cruising years with Scenic we’ve only had to go up and over once. The direction of mooring is for ease of cruising and safety if you look on any river this is how the majority of boats will be moored. On canals it’s not required unless it’s a canalised river.
  6. Thank you so much, it’s much nicer and better for one’s ego to try your best to be a help not a hindrance in this life. My grandson (all of 11years old) tells me that there must be an app somewhere that could be useful, don’t knock it his IQ has just been rated - frightening!
  7. It may also be worth investigating meat substitute. Interesting conundrum. A Jewish friend of mine although not an Orthodox Jew still had two kitchens, something to do with dairy products. I hope it all works out for you.
  8. I completely agree with CPT note if asked on your reservation ‘no pork’ and discuss with the restaurant manager as soon after you board as possible. They are used to shall we say our many dietary challenges you’ll maybe get a visit from the ships chef himself. Enjoy whichever cruise you choose, let us know. ohhh looks like you’ve got some nasty weather in Texas keep safe!
  9. Maybe not quite so strict when it comes to presentation if for non religious reasons.
  10. Very interesting reading - first I thought Viking had all these especial dedicated mooring points so didn’t have to breast up with other vessels. As I’ve only ever sailed with Scenic I’ve rarely experienced breasting up and then only for a short time as in one of the inside vessels was awaiting a late passenger so on our excursion return they were gone. Another time, lovely day relaxing on the balcony shared a glass of red with our neighbours we still keep in touch sparodicaly across the pond. It’s not all bad I suspect the time of year when it’s busier. Just enjoy and don’t worry.
  11. It’s a bit of a quandary, when we first went to Singapore and Malaysia pre basic internet it took me ages to discover that they used exactly the same sockets and voltage as the U.K.
  12. power-plugs-sockets.com/********* insert country Try this!
  13. Believe it or not a car washing and gardening day. Also an opportunity to catch up with neighbours and caught up with our local retired Colonel he waxed lyrical about his Douro cruise with Scenic last year and has now booked on Scenic Eclipse 2. Ahhh is it even launched yet? He’s usually so correct.
  14. Try a website like, Power & Plug Adapters of the world.
  15. My mum learned a little bronx ditty from an American sailor during WW11 (she was a Wren stationed in Portsmouth) I can still recite, it’s about 33little birds.
  16. Our first river cruise a few years ago now was for 8 days at the end my DH decided never again, from then we have always cruised for as many days as we possibly can on one cruise, it’s very very addictive in the nicest possible way.
  17. Ohh like Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis ‘The Viking’ still there is history here in the ‘Danelaw’. Maybe we should give it a try - evidently the expression was - to go a Viking!
  18. Thank you I did wonder it’s one of the reasons my DH won’t travel to the East any more. I’m just pleased I have squeezed in Singapore and Malaya albeit some years ago.
  19. Scenic sails to Chalon sur Soane where they used to start from and travel to Beaune by coach not far. Winery tour this one is owned by Santory the Japanese Whisky makers this place was sparkling. Pont du Gard is amazing but don’t miss the superb museum.
  20. Jeanrtco we have done both areas with Scenic you’ll love both of them so that’s your next two cruises covered. Do a few pro’s and cons lists it’s worth it. Enjoy deciding.
  21. Would love to do this cruise. Years ago we did a day trip from New Orleans and at one stop for a talk at a battle site by one of your lovely wardens we all stood in a semi circle to listen. It just happened that we (Brits) were at one end and another couple also Brits were at the other (not that we knew each other, at the time) at the other when our guide got to the bit were the Brits for once got the upper hand the guy at the other end and my DH both said ‘we’ve got you surrounded’. Okay not original but some there were quite worried. It’s an ongoing joke here that if all else fails we will just go and retake the colonies. (In our dreams)
