  1. I wonder how many different ways river cruisers have been moved from place to place at various times. As in - pushed - pulled - loaded - sea cruised. Any other ways?
  2. I do wonder! When Crystal first started in the river cruise sector they got hold of one of Scenics best cruise directors, I wonder where she ended up?
  3. Just a suggestion never tried it but would be interesting- all on Scenic as so far I have not found another companies tour I’d like to take. Paris to Paris you get to moor up in Honfluer not many companies do that. Then on to Lyon and the South of France, gastronomy at its most sublime and beautiful, beautiful countryside oh and the locals are great (you don’t hear a Brit say that a lot). Then a quick trot over to Bordeaux lots of wines to savour pretty areas. All of these areas have the most amazing history’s as you can guess one of my abiding interests, it’s when I seem to loose my better half. Then either pop across the border to the Douro or double back to the Rhine or Danube the combinations are endless. Let us know if you try!
  4. bubbulz well done 👍 it takes some courage to pick yourself up and carry on have a fantastic cruise and enjoy the build up as much as the event.
  5. Must admit never seen a Bloody Mary at breakfast or lunch on Scenic and they are all inclusive, except for for some high end beverages which I have yet to find. Breakfast does include Verve Clicquot for that essential Bucks Fizz or as the Americans would say Mimosa. On one of our cruises toasting a good touring day became a morning ritual and I don’t think I saw a straight champagne once.
  6. They are basically a German company, I’ve searched their site and they seem not to even recognise Auss. Try the German email I’m surprised there’s been no answer, very poor customer service or is it just ignorance for some reason, as in ignore and it will go away! Good luck
  7. I went on a school trip nearly 60 years ago and the year before the play which so far I have not seen, so all the stars were growing their beards. We got to stand on the stage and try out the acoustics which are amazing a whisper can be heard at the back of the auditorium, beautiful place.
  8. Our first river cruise was for 8 days we disembarked at Nuremberg and left all of our new found Aussie friends on board. My husband decided that day to never to take a short cruise again, and we haven’t!
  9. Have a great time and no using the bed as a trampoline!
  10. Yes your right about the primary grape so I will search for that wine here interesting. I’ve since found a couple of people who have the same problem I have with the Merlot grape but I’m happy to say I really like the wines using the Malbec grape. Thank you all.
  11. ural guy enjoy 😉 you can do the comparison if you haven’t traveled balcony class before!
  12. Second seating I can basically eat anything - within reason but on two occasions with Scenic our on board friends had various food challenges and all were met with no problem. On one the chef arranged a culinaire session especially for those on board with diatary requirements. Although when it comes to wine I for some reason I cannot tolerate the Merlot grape, so we went on the Bordeaux cruise the restaurant manager went above and beyond to sort out a red with the smallest amount of that particular grape in it. I eventually had the choice between three reds during the cruise and all the staff were aware of my shall we say affliction, so embarrassing for a wine lover! Ive done both of these cruises the south of France one twice, before the special focus they are both excellent trips.
  13. Yes it’s becoming a damp dismal autumn the birds are sat amongst the last beautifully coloured autumn leaves looking distinctly bedraggled and drippy.
  14. Scenic try for faster paced, medium paced and slow as I’m a bit oh a photographer I always choose the slower paced tour.
  15. Did the Passion Play live up to your expectations?
  16. Notamermaid I find it absolutely fascinating that there is so much detailed information about the great rivers of Europe to understand it is a work of art in itself. So very grateful for your input, wonderful!
  17. Thanks Jpalbny I’ve been wracking my brain trying to remember - The Man in Seat 61!
  18. Janie 1229 I’m pretty sure the low water levels are past now and actually some areas seem to be being challenged with high levels. The rivers are continually plagued with these challenges a few years ago it was horrendous this year not so much as the various companies seem to be better at working with the challenges. If you do a bit of research through the various threads you will be able to work out the times of year to avoid, the companies that seem to have most problems and best of all the companies that sail on with what seems to be no challenges at all. Take everything with a pinch of salt, look at the small print to see how different companies. Anything Notamermaid writes is worth reading and remember things have changed from even a few years ago. Choose your operator and time of year carefully!
  19. Jazz your right and need2travel1 the Douro was our eighth river cruise with Scenic absolutely no boredom loads to see & do wonderful people. Portuguese law states that there is no night cruising and that the crew be predominantly Portuguese. Wonderfully friendly people and the best tour guide ever in Elizabeth who cruised with us. So that’s my advert compare with others as I would hate anyone to miss out on seeing part of what used to be one of the most influential countries in the world.
  20. Because in this instance, whisper this bit, Dublin is classed as the U.K. or should I say Scotland.
  21. Shush whisper it, and have a great cruise whichever deck you finally decide on but do let us know please.
