What economy cruise has the best food? I know it is subjective :p

It depends on what you call economy lines.

Celebrity, Holland and Princess are premium massmarket. They provide nicer food than other massmarket lines.

Princess usually has many seafood selections in buffets.

Other massmarket lines have ok to good food. I'd place them in that order Royal, NCL, Carnival, MSC.

In my opinion, it is the luck of the draw. The taste of the food is going to depend upon that ship's Executive Chef, in my opinion. There are standardized menus/recipes, but the Executive Chef often has the ability to "interpret" those recipes as he/she wishes.

My most recent Carnival cruise was the most inconsistent as to food taste and preparation in the MDR in comparison to previous Carnival cruises. Of 3 MDR dinners, one was very good, one was OK, one was poor. The first night's dinner at Diamonds Steakhouse was the one standout. Excellent in all respects.

Since the early 2000's...I haven't found ANY line that serves decent food. I'd rate it 2 stars at best. The selection and presentation is NOTHING like it was in the 90's (which is when we started cruising)....it's really gone downhill as far as the food is concerned. But...so has our overall lifestyle, or so it seems.

Here is my list*, as of today (this is a moving target):

#1 -- Celebrity; dollar for dollar, the best deal w/great food and nice alternatives;

Blu is a great experience.

#2 -- NCL(clear.png?emoji-eek-1725); pick up the UDP and eat every evening meal in an alternative;

eat breakfast/lunch in the MDR; avoid the buffet completely.

#3 -- Cunard; great MDR; buffet one of the worst at sea.

#4 -- Holland America; MDR is very good; maybe one visit to the P.Grill.

#5 -- Tie between Princess and Royal Caribbean; Princess is better in the MDR,

but RCL has better alternatives. Both buffets are so so.

*only ships I've cruised

Going to try MSC down the road in the Yacht Club. Carnival and Costa maybe someday?

Enjoy!
