kingstonKouple72 Posted January 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Anyone know if the port of Seward has sniffer dogs? Alaska has legal cannabis and there are stores that sell edibles. I appreciate that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I ask those whose natural reaction is to respond with "MJ is evil and/or illegal" successfully fight that urge. I'm not looking to smoke anything. That would be disruptive, even for me (we vape rather than combust). Eating brownies or gummies won't affect anyone, including the puritans. Thanks. Herfnerd Posted January 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2018 We were in Ketchikan last year and walking towards Creek Street, we were hit with the unmistakable smell of pot - sure enough, we see the Stoney Moose Didn't see any sniffer dogs in port there. Not judging, just saying
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 16, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2018 When we arrived to the Port of Seward in 2016 there were no sniffers. Keith
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 16, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2018 You may also want to ask this on the Alaska Ports Of Call Board. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=55 Keith
CruiserBruce Posted January 16, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Just because it's legal in Alaska doesn't make it allowed on the ship, if you were planning on transporting any...
jamesr3939 Posted January 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2018 It's still illegal under federal law. Not sure where you might be flying to/from but there's a good chance "sniffer" dogs might hit on you at the airport.
riffatsea Posted January 18, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 18, 2018 I have not seen sniffer dogs at ports, just at airports. I doubt if you would have any trouble with edibles on a ship but I'd not fly with them.

Glaciers Posted January 22, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2018 I find it ridiculous that a dog would be used in Seward to detect marijuana. Nobody is going to smuggle enough on board to warrant the expense of a dog and handler. More likely if there are sniffer dogs they’re there to detect explosives. What’s the priority, looking for a couple grams of pot or a bomb?
