Hi. we are planing a group cruise on the Sunshine for Nov 2019 but we have a smoker in the group & he needs help picking a cabin.

I told him you can no longer smoke on the balcony anymore so what is the best cabin where he can run out & grab a quick smoke

If you get an ocean view cabin on deck 3 ( lobby) can you run out side & smoke? Where do you go???

From Google and the Carnival web site:

Carnival Sunshine

Cigarette smoking (including electronic cigarettes and personal vaporizers) are permitted in the following areas:

  • Sunshine Casino: Smoking is permitted while playing at designated slot machines and table games.
  • Sunshine Casino Bar: Smoking is permitted in designated area.
  • Outdoors: Smoking is permitted in designated areas on Deck 3 (port side) and Deck 10 (starboard side, midship).
  • Note: Cigar and tobacco pipes are only permitted in the above designated outdoor smoking areas on Deck 3 and Deck 10.

Get a cabin on deck 4 port side. One floor up (casino) or down (deck 3) and they are at a smoking area.

As a former smoker I know and understand how important this can be to some. I would recommend staying within 1 floor of a smoking area. So if wanting a oceanview, either 2 or 3 would work. Deck 3 is going to be a quieter- watch the waves and sneak your smoke and move on type of area. If you don't mind an interior or can splurge for a balcony, I'd go deck 9 or 10 .....walk outside and up a flight. Also great location for food/pool/lido entertainment.

If a balcony is of interest, try Lido deck cabins. My hubby is a pipe and cigar smoker and it was pretty convenient for him to get to the smoking area above the Lido deck from our cabin. Plus it's in close proximity to the bars and pools, so I could grab a drink or lay out while he was smoking.

I always find out where the smoking areas are (as riff just gave) - then we book a cabin near the elevator close to the smoking area. It's a quick shot that way.

Look for cabin 3132, or around there. It is just in from the lobby, and you can walk right past the excursions desk and go outside. That was our cabin last October, and I am a horrible, terrible smoker.

We stayed on Lido. Up the stairs and out on the starboard side, past the open area above the pool. Not the best smoking section, extremely windy, right up against the intake for the Whale's Tale. And don't watch the red embers roll down the deck after dark - will scare the heck out of you and you'll realize how damn dangerous their choice of our smoking areas really are!

Just smoke on the balcony. I’ve done it on every Carnival cruise without a complaint. Most people don’t care

This is how onboard fires get started.

What do you do with your butts?

What someone should do is either carry a mini self contained ashtray or if they forget that, use one of the cups in the room with a little water in it. Then either throw it in the trash or flush down the toilet.

Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching .

Have some integrity and don’t smoke on the balcony. No need for your balcony neighbors to have to smell the smoke and no need putting the whole ship at risk from fire.

If you want to claim you can smell the smoke from your balcony and it will ruin your entire cruise, fine. I can live with that. But this claim of putting the whole ship at risk from fire is nonsense. Much greater risk of a fire in the galley or engine room than the possibility of a cigarette starting a fire.

WRONG! Most people DO care! It is a fire hazard and people in surrounding balconies do NOT want your second hand smoke! There are designated smoking areas for a reason. Why second hand smoke is a nuisance and potential health hazard, it can be disastrous to someone with a chronic respiratory condition.

I had one of "those" on the Horizon I just got off of, believe me, I cared! And everyone around me did too.
