The Last Straw on NCL? Awesome!

I think this will go the way of most of these bans. Plastic straws will no longer be acceptable. However, paper straws (which can be recycled) will replace them.

Those of us old enough to remember when all straws were paper. Red stripe on white. Like OJ commercial when they stick straw in whole orange.

I didn't know plastic straws couldn't be recycled. Can't imagine drinking a frozen drink without a straw and I like the idea of bringing my own even less...

"I refuse to sail NCL because they don't have Coke." will be replaced by "I refuse to sail NCL because they don't have straws"

Only if they won't let me bring a straw. I plan on bringing a bag of plastic ones. Sorry but I am paying for frozen drinks and intend to enjoy them. And no I don't want to eat them with a spoon. Yuck!

Disclaimer here...I stopped wanting a straw at a very young age when I found that straws don’t work with a good thick milkshake.

Try going a day without plastic, ain’t happening. We use it so much that the amount generated is not possible to be recycled in a manageable level. Might as well start small with something that pretty much is a fluff piece..remember that disclaimer ;)

Nobody mentioned that drinking through a straw causes the same facial wrinkles as smoking. NCL is saving our faces, too! [emoji10]

Wow -- guess they should have eliminated straws for me a few years ago...

;p;p;p

Frozen drinks without straws? Really??? NCL should stop using tons of disposable plastic cups for their drinks instead...

That’s what I’m saying. Can easily replace plastic straws with paper straws.

I just read that NCL has taken an environmental leap forward and (mostly) banned drinking straws on their ships. I do not know this firsthand, I just read it on a different cruise forum. It will mean that my DH and I will bring reusable silicone straws (sold at Amazon and other retailers) to enjoy our upcoming Bermuda cruise on the Escape. I just want to congratulate NCL on this awesome move. Thanks for making one small but significant change toward making our oceans and planet a cleaner and safer place to visit on your awesome cruises. BYOS 4 UBP, people!

Was so glad to see this change is being made and glad you posted it. I am a definite straw drinker, so I have ordered my straws to take on the ship, ones that have a cleaner that come with them and then I will take them home when I go.

My favorite sailaway drink, Frozen Mudslide, will be even sweeter with my reusable straws I ordered on Amazon. Have a wonderful cruise, Alibubba!

Yes, I read nine pages about straw. Danged insomnia.

How many people on here complain about nickel & diming and the lack of customer focus but do a happy dance when the stocks they own go up? Public companies are less beholden to their customers than they are their stockholders. Chew on that for a bit.

As for the straw thing itself, I looooove drinking from a straw, but WOW, they really are bad for animals of all kinds. It's not that they aren't smart enough to not eat a straw (one of the most clueless thoughts ever), it's that they don't have our brains and reasoning ability and who are we to think that the onus to avoid plastic sticks that lodge themselves into their bodies should be on those without developed brains and reasoning abilities?

So let's use our brains and our reasoning ability to realize that satisfying our individual preferences isn't the responsibility of the rest of the world and that we can make individual choices that are better all around and really are no skin off our teeth. #firstworldproblems #relaxweallenduponashipintheend
