sloopsailor Posted August 20, 2018 #26 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Maybe NCL should start advertising "Free Style Falling" as a marketing tool. Then all the stupid people will know what cruise line to book for the ultimate cruise adventure. ;)
donaldsc Posted August 20, 2018 #27 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Turns out that she was both drunk and had a big argument with her boyfriend so she decided to get back at him by taking off most of her clothing and jumping overboard. That was a really smart move. I predict a great future for that relationship. For the sake of Darwin, I sure hope that they don't have or ever have kids. BTW - she is apparently an airline steward. Wonder what she does if she gets angry at a passenger - open the cabin door and jump overboard. DON
JMorris271 Posted August 20, 2018 #28 Share Posted August 20, 2018 On a cruise a few yrs ago, we were on the aft of reflection and noticed a drunk guy moving oddly. beyond the normal stagger.. He did this a few mins then climbed up onto the railing just looking down. The next deck below extended out far enough that prevented him from jumping ship but he would not be well off. My wife went immediately to notify security. After a couple of mins of people trying to talk him down, football player looking guy approached me and asked if I would help pull him off before he hurt someone.. Because security had not arrived after 5 mins, we grabbed him down to the deck where he crashed ,got wilder and chomped down on one of the other fellows hand. Well security showed up and he bit on of them as well. Security knocked the beans out of the guy, cuffed him and took him away. At the next stop, we saw him being escorted away by local police. Why security took so long to arrive no one knows but they got very indignant when I asked them.

SantaFeFan Posted August 20, 2018 #31 Share Posted August 20, 2018 After the captain was informed that she had gone overboard he ordered the ship to turn around and make several passes in the middle of the night looking for her until the Coast Guard took over. The rest of the passengers - the smart ones who don't fall off - arrived at Venice, their final destination, 7 hours late. That fool woman impacted the vacation plans of over 4,600 people - the approximately 2,300 who were either planning on spending a day in Venice or missed their train or plane connections, and the next 2,300 passengers waiting for hours and hours to board so they could begin enjoying their cruise. She will be lucky if she doesn't get sued by people angry at her stupidity.

Totally agree, and in addition to the pax, both disembarking and embarking you also have to consider the impacts on the crew. Starting with the Captain, who at Midnight was probably getting some well earned rest/sleep before arrival Venice for TAR day. I can assure you, the phone call announcing man-overboard is not fun. Then consider the remainder of the crew - TAR days are always busy, but now they have even less time, as they endeavour to get the ship back on schedule. BTW - the cruise line takes a significant hit with additional fuel costs.
BallFour4 Posted August 21, 2018 #34 Share Posted August 21, 2018 The next time someone has a true accident not fueled by alcohol, poor decisions by themselves or others and "falls" from a cruise ship it will be a first. To date there have been no accidental falls. Zero. .
Etta1213 Posted August 21, 2018 #35 Share Posted August 21, 2018 BALLFOUR4 - it would be nice if any profit from subsequent book deal, paid interviews, etc, could be taken to pay toward those fuel costs.
BeagleOne Posted August 21, 2018 #36 Share Posted August 21, 2018 So if it was 60 meters why didn't she just swim back to the dock? Or are the idiots at fox news "She fell from the Norwegian Star cruise ship about 60m off Croatia's coast late on Saturday night." using 60m to mean 60 miles when the rest of the world would read it as 60 meters Well, it's an American station, so... There is occasionally something right with the American legal system. I sure hope that she is forever banned from all cruise ships, airplanes and maybe even cabs.
