Who sailed the Carnival Mardi Gras?

I sailed the Carnivale as well. I have a postcard from the ship, the deck plans and stuff I scrapbooked from the cruise. Wonder if they'd accept that? ;) I sailed her in 1991 and didn't sail with Carnival again until this year on the Magic. My husband and I had a good time comparing my first Carnival cruise with my second. ;)

Find anything with a date on it that proves you have cruised and it should count. They have no records and were responsive in getting back to me with what I submitted. I also stated sarcastically that I would like them to research the ship manifest for the date of sailing and they responded that my cruise would now count towards my credits LOL. Too much time for them to research.... Got to love the way of life Before PC's.....

We sailed Mardi Gras in February 1984. We had an ocean view cabin with the sink in the "bedroom." Every morning when we took a shower, the water stayed for a couple of hours. The extra TP which was high up on the wall was always soaked and it grew to be three times it's size.

We would go to breakfast, go back to the cabin to go to the bathroom, but had to take off our shoes as the floor was still flooded.

I also had to go down the hall to blow dry my hair. In all my crowning glory, with rollers in my hair I walked down to be able to blow dry it. I also had to use the ironing board that was down the hall to iron my clothes.

What a long way we have come!

Sure did. Back in the summer of 1980. My family had three rooms. I was 16 and sharing a room with my 16 year old cousin. Our hair was parted down the middle and feather back. We were discolishous. The room was tiny with a tile floor. You can stand in the restroom and take care of ALL of your bathroom needs without moving your feet. My parents had an awesome suite with a bathtub and gorgeous wood everywhere. I remember sneaking in the casino and playing dollar slots.

I won a contest thru work and the prize was three nights on the Mardi Gras. My first cruise ever...1985 or '86. I remember thinking it was huge! Worst seasickness EVER but still had fun. They would tell you to go lie down in the lounge until you felt better! Also, the drop down bunk over our bed stayed in the down position and when you sat up, you whacked your head! And the walls were as thin as tissue paper!

I found some cruise photos and one was on the Mardi Gras. Talked 3 friends into going on that 7 day cruise. We were 22 years old at the time. Carnival had a policy that 3rd and 4th person in a cabin sailed free back then.Total cost for an inside cabin was $2,500. We split that 4 ways but even then that was a lot of money. When we returned from the cruise we headed down to the travel agent and booked another cruise for the following year. Back then as long as you were a cruise passenger you could go on any cruise line ship in port that day. Since we were not sailing till 2am in San Juan that nite we went over to a Holland America ship and checked out their disco. What a blast. :)

Does Carnival count the days on this ship,

DW was on the Carnavella and they do not count those days because they don't have any records of that time frame.

If you have a carnival photo from that ship you can subit it for credit. The photo is imprinted with the name of the ship. That's how I received credit.

Wow!! This is really funny. Remember how hot the rooms were? Remember the chimes that called us to the dining room for dinner? Kinda like a cattle call. Went on the Mardi Gras 3 times in the 80's. I dug real deep and found one embarkation picture from 1987 and submitted it for proof which raised us to platinum. I loved the pictures posted here. I think I saw my DH and I by the pool- hard to tell for sure- we were so YOUNG and THIN. LOL;)

Just discovered this thread and love the stories. We sailed on the Mardi Gras in December 1977 when we were in our early 20's. What a great time we had! My favorite memory is of the passenger talent show at the end of the trip. Life happened and we never got back to cruising unitl 5 years ago. Have enjoyed yearly trips, but nothing has topped the Mardi Gras!

What a fun thread, complete with fabulous photos!

The Mardi Gras was my first cruise ever back in 1982 - this was combined with my first trip to WDW with the opening of Epcot. I was hooked on cruising but didn't cruise Carnival again until 2009 - hubby didn't think he'd like Carnival. It was so fun for me to cruise Carnival again, and Carnival surprised hubby so much, we've been hooked ever since.

Thanks for the memories!

We sailed on the Mardi Gras in 1979, the first year of our marriage (my third, her second.) We had recently returned from a trip to Mexico City and Acapulco on our honeymoon. We sailed on the Norwegian Majesty for our 25th wedding anniversary in 2004. We have since sailed four times and are scheduled on three more. We are planning to cruise at least two or three times a year as long as we can.

I didn't read all the posts, but I think I can beat you all! I sailed on the Mardi Gras in 1991 as a chaperone to a senior class trip. My most vivid memory was the retrofitted bathrooms with the shower and toilet in one space.

In 1961, I was on the maiden voyage of the Empress of Canada, which became the Mardi Gras, from Montreal to Glasgow (Greenock) Scotland. I was 5 and traveling with my mother!

Gee, I can't believe all the people that have so many memories of the Mardi Gras. In 1986 when we sailed, it was our very first cruise and I remember getting "woozy" going from FLL to the Bahamas. I had forgotten about the bathroom, but you could actually sit on the john and take a shower at the same time. Such memories.

And remember the NOISE that flush made!!!!:eek:

Fun thread. I went on the Mardi Gras when I was 10 in 1982. I was served champagne with dinner and got extra happy. Then my sister gave me hers and I got very happy:)

I remember buddying up with a girl named Candace and had a blast. My parents just let me wander the ship and I found the crew to be wonderful.

It took me almost 30 years for me to get back on a cruise.

High School graduation trip, June 1976.

Ports were Nassau, St. Thomas and San Juan. Ten from my family went, four in our cabin. We had to go down the hall to use a hairdryer.

I've posted this before, but my cousin and I were 18, legal to drink then and in love with any female that walked. The dining room assignments were first come, first served. When you boarded you went and signed up for a table. They gave you a card with your table number. Since the tables were for a max of 8 he and I decided we'd sign up with a table full of women's names... Genius.

6 of them were on a seniors ladies cruise and then... magic. Two lovely college graduates came to dinner. Fun trip.

I shot skeet, stayed up until 4am most nights, put my liver on life support, watched the guys at ports dive for coins passengers threw and had a blast.

Sadly, by our return trip in 87 the ship was fading in it's glory. My wife and I had fun, but it was different.

I still have two of the Seiko watches bought in St Thomas, playing cards, the place mat and some of the photos.

Sailed out on honeymoon in March 1986 and the Mardi Gras was anchored beside the new refurbished Battleship USS Iowa. I went aboard the Battleship and walk around only on the front deck as permitted and got a USS Iowa Battleship cap, I still have it. Ronald Regan had the this ship & USS New Jersey reactivated at that time.

I can't believe the number of CC members that sailed on the Mardi Gras after I asked who sailed on the Mardi Gras. We will be in Stateroom 7365 on Deck 7. On our door will be the pictures of us on our 1979 sailing and also a picture of us on the Celebrity Equinox in Jan 2013. How did we get so old so fast? I will also post our previous and future sailings. Let us know if you sailed with us previously or will be joining us on any of our future sailings.
