We are taking the Emerald eastern Caribbean cruise next month to include St. Thomas, St. Maartin and Grand Turk. We have a sick family member in the US and we were wondering if there is cell phone service or another way to be contacted if there is a problem.

thanx

Because St. Thomas is part of the US Virgin Islands, most US cell phones work there well ... and inexpensively ... without doing anything special with your account. But, you'll need need to check with your provider to see if you'll have coverage (and the cost) in St. Maartin (both French and Dutch) and Turks and Caicos.

You could have them send you an e-mail.

SIgn up to use the ship's internet cafe and check your normal e-mail daily or more often if need be.

Why not check with your provider? They can give you the correct information.

Last year as we arrived in St Maartin, to my surprise my cell phone indicated I had a text message... it was from Verizon (my carrier) welcoming me to Phillipsburg and reminding me that I had service while in port. What a pleasant surprise!!

Good to hear from Jenison, MI and that Verizon will be available in St.M and probably in St.T.
