Is a small purse a good idea?

Is it a good idea to bring a small purse for formal nights? I'm thinking it might be smarter to just save the space in my suitcase & letting dh carry my ID & S&S card in his wallet since that's all I'll probably need. What do you think?

You are thinking ahead for a first timer! I have found I never need an evening bag. My carryon for the flight is a large beach bag which works great for shore excursions and the pool. It is the only purse I take (which saves lots of precious luggage space) and proves work great.

I am going to carry a very small purse for formal night. It will hold some lipstick and a compact. There will be lots of pictures on formal night so I want to be prepared with a quick touch-up after dinner. Also, the purse is so small that it wont take up any room at all in my suitcase. For all other days, I have a small lanyard style purse that will hold my SS card and what ever else I may need. It can be worn around my neck or cross body style.

Have a great cruise. Cari.

I always pack a small evening bag. It is silver with a silver chain handle and feels like a soft leather, deep enough for my camera, lipstick, comb, tissues, etc. Since it's a neutral color it goes woth everything. Personally I just feel more pulled together when I have an evening bag.

I carry a small bag ALL the time! I have a small evening bag for those formal nights, and a small daytime bag for all the "girly" stuff..comb, lipstick., etc....and seapass! Hubby's not always with me if I want/need to hit the cabin for something!

i carry one actually two i have a dressy black and a casual black...very small takes up NO ROOM really...i have to many things i want with me in the evening not to mention my tissues (allergies) and hubby doesnt really need to be carrying around all my 'girl' stuff...i didnt use to carry a bag in the evening and i was finding it very inconvenient...i carry a purse or bag EVERYWHERE at home so why not on the ship--well specially at night when hubby was getting tired of waiting for me to go back to the cabin to FRESHEN UP...lol...actually one night he just handed me my purse and said here take this-then you have all your "stuff" with ya!!

Hi,:) as you can see, many women don't carry them while others of us

carry a small bag. I always use one, especially on formal

nights. For those women who give their stuff to there husbands, boyfriends, whatever...good for them.

Not everyone does that.

I sail solo and my camera, S&S card, money for the casino, lipgloss

all have to go into something.

When I read things like a purse is not necessary? I guess that is

an opinion. I agree that they are not needed for daytime on the ship

but for my evenings? In my opinion, for me, a small clutch is necessary.

And on non-formal nights, I have small crossbody bags that I use.

Even if I had a partner, hubby, mate, etc... I would still carry

my own things.

Daytime is different..If I am on an excursion I have a crossbody

bag, or beach bag, depending on what I am doing. On the ship?

For daytime my shorts and my bathing suit coverup has pockets.

So, it is really up to you. Everyone has their own needs and wants

and there is no right or wrong. It is what is best for the individual.:)

Your first question....is a small purse a good idea? YES:)

I could never be one of those that let their Dh carry their ID etc in port. I mean we are always together but what if something happened and you got seperated. You are in a foreign country with no id, money etc. Nope can't do it. I always make sure I have some money, ID and anything I may need in an emergency just in case.

I have a great lanyard that I keep my sea-pass in along with a credit card and a folded up $20.00 bill (in case I walk through the casino and it calls my name). I also have a smallish backpack that I take if we leave the ship, I throw in my sunglasses, some bottled water, my camera and the lower portion of the lanyard. The bottom portion of my lanyard unclips and I take that and put it in my backpack if we are going ashore.

For evenings I do the same thing I have a few small evening purses that will hold the bottom portion of my lanyard, lipstick and a small mirror and a mini-brush and my camera and a Kleenex or 2. I have done formal nights by asking DH to add a few things to his pockets, but I really would carry my own things.

As you can see, the choice is yours. It is a cruise, very little your "have" to do. :D

Another choice is using a camera bag.

Others will think how smart you are;)

I have a mini black camera bag that I wear across my body in ports and sometimes around the ship. Some nights it goes to dinner with my camera, lip gloss and sail card and some nights I take a small black beaded bag that I bought on my first cruise for $10.

I take a small purse, so that we can put our camera and room keys away (no men-with-pockets travelling with us)

I fill up the purse with small items when I pack, that way, no "lost" space and my small items don't get lost in the big suitcase :)

I have a very cute camera bag. It sort of looks like a little purse. I just use that since I always want my camera with me any way. It has enough spare room in it for my seapass card and a lip balm (or lipstick if I wore that).I never realized how much could actually squeeze in it until our last cruise. We went back to our cabin one night and I emptied it out and I was laughting at how much junk popped out of the little thing AND my camera was still in it!

 My husband does not let me out of his site when we are in ports (or when we travel out of the country for any vacation). I do love that about him ,he is very protective about me when we are away from home. But you do make a very valid point ,,,anything can happen.

I carry my own stuff, partly because I don't have a husband/boyfriend/whatever, and partly because I always have done so. I bring two evening bags, both small enough to fit inside a shoe each.

I also bring a tiny leather daytime bag, with a long strap, that I use aboard ship days and evenings.

I use a large tote, pockets and a secure travel wallet (under my clothing) for shore excursions.

If my formal gowns had pockets, I suppose I could forget about the evening bags, but they don't. ;) Even my informal clothing lacks sufficient pockets for lipstick, tissues, room card, etc. Sportswear, on the other hand, has lots of pockets.

I also carry some sort of purse~and I definitely use one for formal nights as well. I like the finished look to a gown or dressy outfit, so it's a nice clutch bag. Off the ship, if its a beach, it's a bag big enough for towels, water, etc. daytime, its a light weight microfiber type bag for seapass, casino cash, a little touch up makeup and that does it. Yes, an evening bag, formal or otherwise is the right touch!

Enjoy your cruise!

I must bedoing something wrong, my husband always want his keys tissues, ID in my purse.

I carry a purse to save table space while dancing. Have not wanted to wait to be served drinks before hitting the dance floor and lost our seats.

No one has moved my purse, never have any thing of value in it. lipstick, tissues, sometimes an inexpensive camara.

When I first read this I thought "Wow, she dances on the tables!"

Then I thought that a small cross the body bag or wrist-let would be better to save dancing room on the table. I would hate for you to kick off your purse. :D

Sorry, got the giggles now. It's one of those weird days.

I carry a small nylon ID holder that has a strap. It is very flat and has a clear ID pocket and 2 zip pockets. I use it on the ship and on shore for my ID, Sea Pass and cash.

During the day while on the ship, I have a mini canvas (maybe 8x8") tote I carry around to hold an ever changing variety of things; my Compass (daily planner) lip balm, camera, a paperback book, pen and even a light jacket for those over air conditioned areas of the ship. Sometimes it is all but empty but helpful to have. I am always surprised at what it can hold and how convenient it is. I thread my ID holder through itself onto the strap of the tote to keep it easy to find.

At night I have a small flat beaded wristlet to just hold my Sea Pass and a lipstick or I have a slightly larger similar one that is also big enough for my compact camera.

They take up almost no space in my suitcase, even when I pack light.
