What's the grossest thing you've ever seen someone do on a ship?

Well, this one is one of the crew on the Independence of the Seas. We were in Chops and the server prepared the Cesar Salad tableside as they do, and with great flourish, presented it to my husband. Unfortunately, there was a very obvious and large variety dead fly right on the top layer of the salad. You would have to be blind to miss it. She whisked it away when it was brought to her attention and wanted to prepare another salad for him which he declined. He tried to say it didn't bother him and tried to stick out our time at the table but ended up having to leave. It was brought to the manager's attention but he just lamely appologized which was nice, but it was a lot of money for a dinner we did not finish or enjoy.

This observation won't hit the top 10 but on every cruise we observe people loading up their trays at the buffet like there won't be any food available for the next 13 days! Then they pick around at the pile and leave 75% of it on the tray. To me this is gross + gross!

On every single cruise I have ever been on, there will come a time where I will see someone exit a bathroom stall and leave the washroom without washing their hands. On some cruises I have seen it several times. How often is it happening if I see it at least once every cruise? What could be more disgusting than that?

And for whatever reason it is almost always a very elderly person. I have no idea why that would be.

Yuck. True, but still...yuck!

Loving this thread! It's awful but too, too funny

Bonus Points for Celebrity :): In all the public area restrooms there is a small waste basket by the door. After you wash your hands use a clean paper towel to then open the bathroom door (so you don't touch the handle the non-washer just went out of!) then toss it into the basket by the door. I do this at ALL public restrooms as well as using a paper towel to turn off the water (if your hands aren't clean when you turn the water ON, what makes you think the handles will be clean when you turn them OFF?)

That is so funny you say that because I took my first cruise last May and I coudn't get over how much food people piled on their plates in the buffet! Like it was their last meal. And they didn't look like they should be eating all that food judging from their waistlines. And it seemed like a lot of them ate it all too. Too me that is really gross!

On Royal about a week or so ago, they had a game called Quest. Well to make a long story short, this man took off his tiny underpants and flashed everyone. Then he also hung his legs around a pole in the audience (almost naked). Took his wife's (two top things) and shook them. His wife took off her bra in the top of the seats and was naked on the top. I couldn't see that but my husband did. To top it off, this man was middle aged, had a big gut and was plain discusting.

Finally Royal turned the lights out while he was doing the flashing. Fortunately his team did not win.

One of our cruisemates went and complained to Royal about him.

On our last Constellation cruise my wife walked into a toilet stall, unlocked, where a woman was using the core of an empty tissue roll for a purpose that it was not designed for....... :o

Excuse my ignorance but (with one 't' please )...I'm guessing it wasn't crafts!!!

Disney cruise line .. had the pleasure of sitting with a newly married middle aged couple that I swear came straight from the movie deliverance! Dirty clothes and stringy hair... The wife asked the husband for a roll .. he proceeded to pick every roll up ..she would decline the offer and he'd pick up the next one .. he touched every roll in the basket before he was successful in finding just the perfect one for her... I asked for a new bread basket... They also asked how much dinner was as the menu didn't have any prices...then the husband proceeded to ask where the hamburgers were listed on the menu...at that point we quickly finished our meal and requested another table for the remainder of the cruise!

Holland America - An elderly couple was in a cabin opposite our cabin ... we ran into them often and as the days went on it was quite obvious that they didn't change their depends for the entire cruise..disgusting!

Celebrity Mercury - pool deck - elderly man sitting with his feet on the chair and his knees up .... he was hanging out of his bathing suit for all to see...a bar tender finally asked him to cover up!

These certainly don't top some of the ones I've read here tonight ... people never cease to amaze me!!

I never should have looked at this thread! Between this one and the "funniest thing you've ever seen on a cruise" thread, I'm thinking a) should I cancel my very first cruise immediately, and b) is there some reason the IQ of a lot of cruisers seems to be WAY below average?

Don't cancel your cruise...remember....the people mentioned on here are in the smallest minority of those who cruise....I would bet that in excess of 99% of cruisers are absolutely wonderful...the only problem is....everyone remembers the awful ones

On our Caribbean Princess cruise we had second seating and I glanced at the butter dish...it had smear marks and knifes marks along the sides of the dish with fresh ice and butter on top...mmmmm no bread and butter for me but thanks anyway.

Another nice touch was watching a man jump into the adult pool with his muddy crocs just so he could wash them off...nice touch.

While sailing on HAL about a decade ago we were seated at a table for 6 with the wives on one side and the guys on the other. The guy next to me (early 80"s) had a nasty habit of talking while eating and in the process allowing a lot of food to fall back on his plate. As I was leaving the table, he demanded to know why my wife would not look at him while he talked. The next night was formal night and he and his wife were both wearing their wind breakers. After receiving the prime rib, he picked it up with his hands and began to chew. The waiter almost popped his eyes out and we left for another table.

True story # 2

On the Constellation several years ago I frequented the free sauna connected to the mens locker room I walking into the sauna in my swim trunks and in there was a guy stark naked with a colostomy bag hanging out of his abdomen. Unfortunately I remember that site to this day. I have never gone back to one of these suanas again. The idea of e coli contamination is frightful in that warm primordial soup.

You asked for it.

Fair dinkum, that is the grossest, foulest thing I have ever heard. Now I am picturing it in my head!!!! Thanks very much - NOT!

You get my vote - Ewwwww

At least they do not ask for a doggie bag

During a cruise on the Equinox last December, I saw a fancy lady, traveling single but with her small dog and she let the dog pee on the Promenade deck. I immediately informed guest relations about it.

We cruised with another couple. He brought his service dog with him. The dog had a bad time. Would not use the astroturf the crew put on the balcony. Finally crapped out in the casino. Got sea sick in the auditorium.

I'm glad cruise lines are now putting grass on their new ships.

Ok, get a load of this one. This is really gross. No joke. Solstice - April, 2010 - port side men's room aft of the martini bar.

An elderly man was using the restroom. He did not close the stall door. He was standing there, pants and underwear down at his ankles, butt facing out to everyone, peeing all over the floor. I went to my urinal and while doing my thing, heard the district puttering sound of a liquid substance coming out someone's posterior. I could only hope it was someone in another stall. Nope. The man let it all while while standing there.

OMG this one gets my vote as the grossest

I would love to see you pick up your T-bone! Give us a good laugh.

While in the buffet last week, an elderly (God, shoot me in a couple of years if I pick up all these bad habits) man had a long towel around his middle and legs. Guess he thought it was fine if his legs were covered in a crowd - but that hairy chest?? Glad I already had my food.

And lots of people walking barefoot in the buffet - gross for them.

Arno that's why we usually ask for a table for two now unless we are sailing with you and Jo-Anne. :-)

derf...As a dog owner, I would never categorize this as "gross" by any means. The poor dog. :(
