(With comments on problems) – yes. On about 3 occasions when I was, unfortunately, up at 4am-ish, I heard some tables being moved up in the Windjammer. I was able to fall back asleep pretty quickly. I heard no ship noise otherwise. Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - It could be, with the standard balcony room to the left of it. Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – It's on deck 10 so there is an overhang above. The back of the AOS has some railings around each deck (6, 7, 8, 9, 10) that kind of got in the way sometimes. But nothing terrible. The interesting this is, the level 10 balconies look down on the Royal Family Suites on Deck 9 and the other balconies on deck 8. You can also see a crew "lounge" on deck 5. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - It seemed larger than other JS suites we've had. We had plenty of room for two reclining chairs, and a table with two chairs Was wind a problem? - There was almost no wind ever. It got a little stuffy when the sun was shining on the balcony space. If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No problem with soot Any specific problems with this cabin? - No problems at all, it was great. Any other comments? - It goes without saying that an aft room has quite a hike to get to. Do not forget anything when you leave as it might not be worth it to go back and get it. Even with the Windjammer right above, you have a 5 minute walk to the stairs. If RCI had a guest elevator where the crew elevator is, then it wouldn't be such a hike. Normal or oversized for class? - [/b][/b] Was wind a problem? -N/A If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? -N/A Any specific problems with this cabin? -N/A Any other comments? - This was one of the newly established cabins after the refurb and used to be part of the dining room. It is located just off the Centrum, behind doors (just past Guest Services) where the hallway consists of only 6 outside cabins and 3 inside studios. 4590 is the last cabin. We thought it may be noisy due to proximity to the dining area and Centrum. It was a very quiet cabin with practically no traffic. (We saw one other passenger in our hallway the entire cruise). There was the occasional little noises (sounding like ice dropping into a machine) but nothing bothersome at all. Because the area used to be part of the dining room, the window was much larger than the other outside cabin windows. It was at least 5 1/2 feet in circumference and really opened up the cabin. The square footage and design of the room, other than the window, was exactly the same as other outside cabins. If we sail Serenade again in an outside cabin, we will definitely try to reserve this cabin again. We loved it! (One note, however--We tend to be late nighters, so I cannot attest if you can hear things such as the 70's party during events such as that because we were part of the party, lol.) (With comments on problems) - Yes, it’s at the very end of the hallway, so no one passes by the cabin. Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. - This is an aft-corner cabin balcony, sort of a semi wrap-around, so it has a wide-angle view (well over 180 degrees). Great for wake-watchers. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Because it is an aft-corner cabin, the balcony is much larger, probably two-to-three times the size of other D2 balconies. It's odd shape makes it hard to measure, but I stepped it off and it is about 12 feet at its deepest and about 25 feet at its widest. It has a curved deck railing, so the best way to describe the shape is a "quarter oval". It had two loungers, two regular chairs and a small table. Was wind a problem? - No wind at all. If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No soot at all. Any specific problems with this cabin? - The only negative I can think of is that the bed was very hard. Any other comments? - A great cabin for the most part, but if anyone is mobility-challenged, please note that it is a bit of a walk to get to the elevators and to the rest of the ship. coordinator23 Posted April 28, 2015 #594 Share Posted April 28, 2015 Enchantment of the Seas Deck 8 Room 8166 Aft - Port side Quiet room located under the Spa. Non connecting room, but the cabin does have two bedrooms, two bathrooms - master has a tub/shower combo, and a large living room. Very large balcony with a four seat table located under an overhang. The balcony can be accessed by sliders in the master bedroom or living room. The cabin accommodates 8. Two in master bedroom, four in the inside bedroom, and two on the sofa bed. We have been in this cabin twice and never encountered. A wind or soot problem. The overhang area does allow use of part of the balcony when it is raining. Balcony also has two lounge chairs (easy to fall asleep on), but has enough room for two additional if needed, and a side table. One specific problem is the coffee/tea service located in the living room. There is no place to plug in. You have to move it to the vanity in the hallway to use it. You also have to unplug the TV in the small, interior bedroom if you want to use a nightlight. Second bathroom has a curtain (clothes pins on the bottom of the curtain can be used to keep it from clinging if you want to pack them). Over all this is a great cabin! Lots of storage, quiet, three TV's - living room has DVD player - you can get DVD's from concierge, suite privileges, concierge lounge, and a lot of room to spread out. Normal or oversized for class? - slightly smaller I think in the class Was wind a problem? - no If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - no Any specific problems with this cabin? - no Any other comments? - from my survey and review " I do not drink alcohol like I used to. If, I were still a heavy drinker I'd have been disappointed in the drink packages since many people complained about actually getting service, OR their drinks at the bar once they'd purchased a package. I saw understaffed bars, and almost no bar waiters out on the pool deck at most any time during the cruise. I did purchase a soft drink package and it seemed to me, the ticket to being ignored was sitting my drink cup up on the bar to wait for a drink! That action almost guaranteed that two or three people that arrived behind me at the bar would be waited on first! I did learn to hide or leave the cup at the table so I could get service quicker but a smaller drink! I did buy a bottle of wine with the fruit basket which was really good, and we brought two bottles of wine with us on the cruise. I think our bar bill was about 115-120 dollars for the cruise including gratuity. So we're not teetotalers. I came away with the perception ( right or wrong ) that the DRINK PRICES had risen dramatically recently? I have also heard such on Cruise Critic. The thought I had and also seems to be the prevailing idea on CC is that RCI has steeply altered its drink prices to encourage its customers to buy a drink package. What It seemed like to me was that at the same time, they have effectively restricted the customers ability to actually get their drinks! By not having many, or at times ANY waiters in an area such as the pool, then everyone has to line up at the bar to get service which is naturally slower. Many Many times I witnessed customers carrying a handful of cards, as many as four at a time so they could order 4 drinks for a table of smokers or group of sunbathers. This is also the first cruise ever, that I have been on, that I never saw a single bar waiter on duty by the pool on embarkation day!!!! On day two, ( key west ) I saw maybe on guy late in the afternoon. Later in the cruise, maybe two guys waiting\bussing tables. I also saw very little bussing of tables and never once saw an ash tray emptied! I did note, the staff captain or Pool area supervisor I guess, many many times personally pick up trash, bus tables and pick up towels and the like when he'd walk by. This person didn't have the normal waiter outfit on and in the evenings he did have his suit on, during the day he was in his white shirt. I really appreciated the work he did to make up for the lack of staff he had. I do wish I had caught his name but I didn't want to slow down the only person that seemed to care about the appearance of the deck and tables by the pool. We did see some better service in the schooner bar, but we don't just sit around and drink like we used to. The service in the show lounge and Colony Club seemed better. Though we did not purchase a drink in the CC. We did note by conversation that a number of crew were on their last cruise at the end of their contract. I hope this didn't affect the service. It did not seem to affect our service. I did hear others complain that they thought this might have been an issue at the bars? I was a bit stunned at the late opening ( it seemed to me ) of the pool bar at 9am ish and the early closing of the same, about 9pm? We spent a large part of the morning in the Solarium. I think the bar there was only opened fairly early one time. Not at all before lunch but maybe twice? I do understand I think the Brilliance maybe having a more upscale history than say the Monarch or Enchantment which have been our other two RCI cruises. Had the Brilliance, which is a beautiful ship, been our first RCI experience I'd think I'd have a hard time recommending RCI to others, Nor would I likely cruise RCI again. We have been on quite a few cruises so we do understand there are differences in presentation and atmosphere on differing ships so that tempers our judgement somewhat. I do look to cruise RCI again when the deal “is right”, and itinerary also beckons. RCI might not be our first choice but we will not dismiss it out of hand.
