Ocean players club....

We are going on our first cruise ever in August with Carnival. I gamble a ton. What exactly do I have to do to sign up for this Ocean Players club and when do I do it? Now or when I get on the ship at the casino?

All you have to do is insert your S&S card in the slot machine and once you reach 1000 pts., you are enrolled automatically.

I always make sure that I go and introduce myself to the Casino Host and tell them how nice the casino looks and that I am looking forward to the opening of the casino.

In 2009, I was on the Liberty and the Carnival Dream and I do not recall spending any monies on drinks in the casino.

I have an upcoming cruise and sent an email to Oceans Players Club and I did receive an email back to let me know that I will have a "Premium Gift" waiting for me in the casino and to make sure that I go and meet the Casino staff.

I believe that a little bit goes a long way!

Here is the email I got from them today, I too am going to be a new player.

Hello Stephanie,

Thank you for contacting the Ocean Players Club!

You may become a member simply by using your Room Key card at the slot machines. This will automatically create a player profile under your name and begin to track your play accordingly. In order to be rated at the table games, you must play for at least 4 hours in a day and have an average bet of $25 or more. Whether or not you meet this criteria, you should check in with the Pit Boss on board and request that your play be rated. Please be sure to check in with the casino host and/or manager once on board to be extended any comps you may be eligible for based on your level of play throughout the cruise. Have a wonderful voyage and best of luck while in our casino!

Best Regards,

Serena Webb

Thank you for the information. I just got off the phone with OPC and they told me that I would be receiving a bon voyage package in my room on our November sailing. I asked what would be included in the bon voyage package. He told me that I would be receiving a fruit basket, a bottle of wine (red or white, I chose white) and a coupon for a free photo. It was so worth a simple phone call, thank you.

Since my husband and I gambled at the tables for at least 2-4 hours per day on our last 7 day cruise on the Glory; and also had received the offer for 4 free nights in a suite at the Palazzo or Venetian in Las Vegas I went ahead and sent an e-mail to the Players Club and this is the reply I received:

We could not locate your player ID#. You may become a member simply by using your Room Key (Sail and Sign) card at the slot machines. As a valued guest, we would like to extend to you a standard bon voyage package in your stateroom, please provide your booking number so we may place your details on our guest list.

Were grateful to be getting the Standard Bon Voyage package but I think it's a little odd that we didn't gamble enough to become a member of the players club, but did enough to receive 4 free nights in a suite at the Palazzo/Veneitian, $50 resort credit, and $150 match play which we will be taking advantage of the last weekend in August.

I am seeing that the regular Bon Voyage gift is different for people. Do you think it depends on the cruise line you sail?

I was told that I am getting the regular bon voyage gift and I didn't play slots and my table gambling was not 4 hours a day at 25.00 a bet. I think that's crazy as I can bet I spend way more at the tables than most slot players. oh well.

I called the number posted earlier in the blog. I told them that I had sailed on Carnival Ships in 08 and 09 and was wondering if I had any promotions coming to me for my next sailing. He asked me for my name and date of birth, looked me up and said that I did. He asked me for my next sailing date, and booking number. Told me that my bon voyage package would be waiting for me in my room......then asked if I would prefer red or white wine!

After a conversation on another board re: Casino, comps, etc; I decided to go ahead and send in my info to the Players Club and inquire about what we might qualify for on our January Cruise. Got this reply today! Sweet. :)

On your upcoming cruise aboard the Dream, you will each be receiving a $50 cage comp, along with a Bon Voyage package valued at $50. Your details have been placed onto the guest list and you’re all set for your first cruise of the new year!

When we did a 4 day cruise in July on Carnival they sent the Bon Voyage package and told us to call back AFTER that cruise to inquire for comps on our Jan cruise. They basically told me "you will receive MORE if you wait till after this cruise"! I like that.

On our 7 day Princess Cruise in August; we received $50 comp play. (Separate programs)

For the Jan. Cruise, we get all of the above!

Each time, I "invested" about 5 minutes in inquiring. Pretty good return on my time, imo!

I'm so thankful to CC for a lot of things; but explaining ES and sharing about Players Club perks have definitely been tops! Trying to pass on what I learned after a LOT of cruises w/o casino perks!

Make the call, send the request, do what you have to do if you are going to play on Carnival. They do show their appreciation. If not this time; then the next time they will have a record of you playing.

I met Kristin from Canada on Day 1 and she took very good care of me and another heavy craps player. He made out like a bandit once they found out he was onboard. Cash, Drinks and some goodies. He did not know to let them know he was sailing.

The only thing I can say is that if you hit the cruise casinos and do not join the OPC, then woe is you!

Your rating on slots come from your Sail & Sign card.

Ratings from the tables come from your play. I was told that they rate how you bet, the bets would have to be at the $20 range or higher, which Craps can definitely go higher. My buddy was averaging $50 per shooter, kept pressing his bets..

Now, don't expect to be comped drinks all night or free cruises. Cruise casinos are dealing with a captive audience and don't have to comp anything. Kristen was being nice as we had worked a cold table for the most of the week.

I recently contacted OPC and asked if I had a membership number, as I had previously registered and I'm coming up on my 4th cruise on Carnival. They said no, I was never registered and even if I had not spent one dime but had inserted my room card (which I always do), that I would be "registered". Strangely enough, they could find no record of me ever. And I like to donate to the slots quite a bit ...
