What are the must haves for Dinner?

We rarely do the MDR more than once during a cruise but enjoyed the Victory MDR every evening. The food as well as the company and service we enjoyed was perfect.

I have a hard time facing the buffet now when I know what I'm passing up in the MDR. I'll go to the dining room alone if I have to in order to eat all that wonderful food and get pampered by being served. I look forward to the pampering too not just the food.

Oh, I have been waiting for this question! My number one favorite is the Grand Marnier Souffle!!! On the. pride last year I was just waiting and waiting all week long for it (I know it seems silly, but it really is my favorite). So we get to the last night of the cruise and it has been posted outside the dining room, on the menu, I just know I am going to have my favorite. dessert time rolls around and our wonderful waiter, Ali, comes up and says, the desserts on the menu are not what is being served tonight, we have special dessets......which turned out to be some puff pastry in the shape of a ghost sitting on top of some leftover pumpkin cheesecake. I was SOME upset!!!!! I really hope someone from Carnival DOES read these boards.......I am sailing on the Glpry on 10/17 AND THIS TIME I WANT MY GRAND MARNIER SOUFFLE!!!!!

pumpkin soup, cream of mushroom soup, french onion soup

fried mozzarella, shrimp cocktail

braised style short ribs (melt in your mouth!)

most steaks

sweet and sour shrimp (sauce was on the side)

panko crusted shrimp

creme brulee, grand marnier souffle, black forest gateau, carmelized apples on puff pastry

remember you can get baked potato or fries or steamed veggies any night - I don't always like the sides that come with the entrees

and that espresso and cappuccino are free in the MDR

I only have 2 "must haves"

Warm Chocolate Melting Cake

and my new must have is Lobster Bisque.

The one I am really hoping to get a chance to try

is the escargot, which I didn't see on our last cruise.

I am hoping that I can find the menus for dinner ahead of

time so that I can make sure we don't miss the MDR that night.

I believe the escargot are served on the 2nd 'elegant' night so as long as you make it to the MDR that evening you should be good to go (my travel buddy usually orders 2 of them - and on one cruise - as someone mentioned - we were able to get escargot on another evening - for the whole table - specially prepared for us - by special request - great wait staff!)

What a great thread!! I would have never considered the braised short ribs before reading your posts....but it's on 'my list' now!

I agree...Gran Marnier souffle and Creme Brulee..fav desserts....and what is 'Bitter & Blancs?" I've missed that on the menu! I love to try the different soups, appetizers...and also enjoy the lamb chops. Thanks for some 'new' menu ideas....I can't wait!

And....long AFTER the MDR...after a few hours in the casino....you just have to try the Pizza....late at night....'just because you can' It's almost a 'tradition' that I go ....by myself, because everyone else has gone to bed....on the last night....and order goat cheese and/or vegetarian pizza....usually have to wait a few minutes...and that means it's fresh & hot! What a treat!

Thanks...now my mouth is watering =0)

If I remember correctly Bitter and Blanc is very similar to Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. It is like a chocolate bread pudding served with a vanilla warm sauce.

I Love the Braised short Ribs and WARM CHOCOLATE MELTING CAKE (ordered a little on the soupy side in the center with 2 servings of ice cream instead of just one :D)

Any of the chilled soups, pumpkin soup, cream of mushroom soup, lobster bisque. Duck for either appetizer or main course, but I like the appetizer portion better. Indian vegetarian dinner is very good. The vegetarian chili rellenos are good too. The Dream had a new sea bass dish in May that was excellent. Not sure if its on other ships. Grand Marnier souffle and bitter n blanc (white chocolate bread pudding) for desserts. If you like apple pie, make sure its the "old fashion" pie not the carmelized apples in pastry shell.

My must haves:

Indian

Enchilladas (they were some of the best I have had)

Pumpkin soup

I will also say that if your ship has the Burrito Bar or Fish and Chips, I would hit one of those places when you board for lunch. Food is quite, quite good.

The bitter and blanc, is mainly white chocolate but if memory serves there is a bit of dark chocolate on the bottom of the dish. If you don't get a bit of this on the your spoon I don't think it tastes nearly as good.

The fish & chips place! I loved it on the Liberty. I tried a bit of the fish & chips, ok I thought but the bouillabaisse (sp?) and ceviche was wonderful. Try the little dishes sitting on ice as you first approach the counter - they are delicious & it seems mainly avoided by people in line. So fresh, with lots of fresh lime juice.

Will be on the Victory soon, from what I have read Carnivals menu and food is the same fleet wide. Won't be having lunch on board since this is a port intensive cruise. What are the must haves at dinner time? I prefer meat to seafood.

Does anybody have any recent pics of Carnivals dinner entres?

Thanks.

pumpkin soup and the escargot yummmmmmm

I love this thread, why can't somebody come to my house and make all this? :D

Escargot, DH orders two and I one, I normally only eat half of mine (rich) and he gets 2.5

Warm chocolate melting cake, usually one of us orders it every night as a second desert and then we each order something else. In our first 3-4 years of cruising we NEVER had desert as we never do at home so we are making up for it now.

Thanks for the tips on the ribs, I would not have considered them but will be sure to get them now.

I LOVE the flat iron steak... and it's on the menu every night I believe.

I had the flat iron steak on our last cruise and it WAS very good! I got it from the Lido buffet at supper though.
