Rust, torn carpet, barren railings -- where ARE the famous Summit pictures anyhow?

I sailed on the Summit July 18-25 and encountered many problems. Occupied the Penthouse and an adjoining sky suite. Everything from broken springs in sofa beds and rollaway, plumbing leaks in three different locations broken bath fixtures and worst of all brown water running out of faucets and tub shower in both suites for several hours one evening. Beware..........................

We just got off the Summit this past Sunday. I am working on a full review of the ship and it's crew. The main issue I had was the filthy shower floor in our stateroom, but there were others as well.

Hopefully I will have the review complete in the next couple of days with pictures. There were some positive things about our cruise....but I think everyone should consider the recent complaints before booking the Summit. This was our first Celebrity cruise and we not sure we will cruise with Celebrity again.

So your main issue was a filthy shower floor in your stateroom?

I feel your pain. There were a couple of rust spots out on my balcony so I contacted guest relations. They immediately sent up the ship's maintenance crew who chipped the rust, put on a coat of red lead, then painted it white to my satisfaction. After they resolved that fiasco, we had a very pleasant cruise to Bermuda.

Had a terrific cruise on Summit in June 2010. My stateroom was spotless, the crew were efficient and friendly, the waffles were as wonderful as ever and there was even a second waffle station, dinner in MDR was the same as I had experienced on Connie and Millie this year, nothing to complain about other than I am not crazy about the way that the computer center has turned into a sales gallery. The staff there were too busy selling and explaining the features of the Apple products to help those of us dealing with the slowest connection times I have ever encountered, and odd error messages also never seen before. No other problems to report on that particular voyage.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. I'm curious though, did you contact customer relations and address these issues? Usually they are more than willing to quickly resolve any problems.

We sailed the Summit in December and had no problems whatsoever. Sure it's an older ship and you will see rust, worn carpet, etc., but the crew is constantly painting and updating the ship. It was our first cruise on Celebrity and we fell in love with the Celebrity line because the service and food were so outstanding. While I would not ignore broken springs in beds or brown water, I definitely did not inspect the ship to see what I could find wrong with it. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to cruise and would sail on the Summit again in a heart beat. A vacation is what you make of it, if you look for something wrong, surely you will find it. We have many friends that sail the Summit several times a year if that tells you anything.

we have been on Summit twice before (to the Caribbean & Hawaii) --but not recently-- As the ship has aged & is due for refurbishing, we know what to expect. Anything not clean in our stateroom will get cleaned & anything else we'll work around.

we are taking it for the itin to Bermuda over Labor Day (praying for good weather)-- it was preferable to us than Explorer or some of the other ships that call there.. It will still be a Celebrity cruise so I am sure the food & service will be excellent! If not we'll report back

Internet service on ships is always slow--not sure why?

Please understand that I do not look for things to complain about. In fact, I hate complaining about anything. I did not mention the dirty shower floor to the staff as I was hoping the stateroom attendant would notice it and take care of it. Our SA was not very nice. He smiled maybe twice during the entire cruise. He acted like he was always in a bad mood and when we did see him he acted like he was doing us a favor.

The food did get better during the middle of the cruise. My friends ordered steak on the first night. After waiting nearing 2 hours for our main course, the steak arrived cold and it was like rubber. We waited more than 20 minutes just for a glass of tea. The first night's dinner took almost 3 hours.

Again, my full review is coming including pics--but I just wanted to point out that I do not look for things to complain about. Yes, there were some rust, and some areas looked a bit worn, but overall I thought the ship was in pretty good shape. I was hoping to be impressed by Celebrity but this cruise let me down-especially with the food, condition of the stateroom and attitude of some crew.

There were some members of the crew that were very nice and helpful.

I understand others may have had a different experience..unfortunately, ours was not the best.

hcat -- you are absolutely right about internet connect times, but this was slower than any I have ever experienced, with other previously unknown glitches. One that really surprised me was that the no-minutes-charged connection to the Celebrity and Royal Caribbean websites was not working. Yet the connection to Reidel was operational. And usually on other cruises in the middle of the night the connection speed would improve, but not on this one. The personnel in the computer center just shrugged and said "try again later" but there was never any improvement.

We were on the same trip, got back this past Sunday. We had a great time and had very good service and meals. I haven't had time yet to put together a review, but we had very little issues and those we had were quickly resolved to our satisfaction (and in one case even beyond what we would have expected.)

I hopefully will put something together by the end of the week.

Oh my gosh, we were on the 25 July cruise and never experienced any such difficulties. In fact, we were at the back of the dining area, and our food and service was so good, we left a substantial gratuity in addition to the auto tips.

Maybe you just experienced a "self fulfilling prophecy"?

Hi,

You have just hit on my only complaints about my 18 July cruise on Summit. I have now been on most of the Celebrity ships and this was the SLOWEST connection of any of them, by far. And it was no better in the middle of the night. Also, not being able to access the free Celebrity and RCCL sites was really irritating. I like to do price checks on my upcoming cruises, but not this time.

If this is what the new Mac's are going to be like, I will have to pass.

Anne

We were on the July 25th sailing and had an amazing time. The crew was extremely helpful and professional. There was a little rust on the balcony but who cares.....the ship is in the water 24/7. The crew is constantly cleaning and polishing the ship. We went on the cruise expecting to have a wonderful time and we did! I would sail on the Summit again in a heartbeat!

We are on Summit right now. So far everything is good the family is having a good time. We will be in Bermuda tomorrow. So far the ride has been very smooth.

We just did the galley tour and I was surprised that the tour was better than the one we took last time (Millennium? Infinity? I can't remember). It was better organized.

Internet connection is not a slow as I had feared.

Gotta go now to lunch. Then I have to go to the casino to get some of my money back that I lost yesterday......

I have been searching and searching...what thread are they in??

I'm sailing on Summie next month and need to know what I need to pick up at Home Depot, lol....

To answer the original question, search the photo gallery using the keywords rundown summit.

I realize that the request for photos was tongue in cheek, but for anyone who's curious about these, that's where you can find them, or many of them, anyway.

Of course, these are glaring examples of problems with an older ship, but are selective examples. They probably do not convey a complete picture. Anyone looking for problems will find them. You could probably find some similar pictures of Solstice, if you looked hard enough for them.

I'm sorry for saying this but I just don't understand people who'll put up with something like a dirty shower and then complain about it afterward. I can understand you don't want to make complaints on board, but believe me, the ship management needs to know if anything is amiss. They'll do all they can to improve the situation but if you're stateroom attendant isn't doing something properly they can't fix the problem unless they know about it. It could be your stateroom attendant was new, lazy, or having a bad week. Or perhaps you were unlucky enough to get one of the worst attendants on the ship (someone will always be the worst and someone will always be the best). Whatever the source of the problem, you really should have asked him to clean the shower properly and if he didn't do so then bring it up with his boss (the assistant chief housekeeper whom you tip with your auto-tips) or guest relations.

Personally, there are some things we won't bother complaining about but a dirty bathroom is something we'll need to get taken care of immediately.

Same goes for any issues with the dining room food. That is what management is there for - to make sure that any issues preventing you from having the best cruise experience are corrected - if possible.

If that really was the Summit I would jump on any minute...you know Will Turner is the "new" captain of that ship right????

Sorry, he's not my type. Now, Elizabeth Swann... what's that, dear? No, no, sweetums, you look gorgeous today, as usual. Of course, you're the only woman I'd ever look at...

Gotta go.

Well said Larry. No way I would just ignore the dirty shower and not mention it to the stateroom attendant and if that didn't get the job done, his boss. Same thing for the food in the dining room. We had the best waiter and service ever on our cruise on the Summit. he really went over backward to make sure everything was to our liking and even took it upon himself to bring us out foods to try once he learned what we liked. If anyone had any complaints about the temperature of the food, etc, it was immediately taken care of. Sounds like rlsrlj had a poor stateroom attendant and bad waiter which is too bad.

partyalldatime, LOVE the picture!!! Thanks for the laugh.

I still remember someone crawling around on the floor taking pictures of the rust out on deck and saying how awful it was. That's what I was talking about when I said some "look" for things to complain about. Legitimate issues are a different story and Celebrity is more than willing to take care of the problem if they are advised about it.

What is going on re: Summit. Posts are unbelievable. Sailed Summit 6/13-6/20. Family loved entire cruise. Food, staff, ship as a whole was great. First celeb cruise for dh. Was so impressed. Cova cafe, therapy pool. Son's family had a wondeful time. We were hesitant to bring a 10 and 12 yr. old on Celebrity. They raved about the activities and program available for kids. Senior staff went out of their way. Rust-some but nothing I would write home about. Can't believe these posts are about the ship we sailed on in June.

Back in 2003 on our first night on the Galaxy, we found the bedding unsatisfactory. One of the mattresses was sagging in the middle. The next morning I reported the condition of the bedding to the front desk. Later that day, I received a phone call from maintenance in which I was told that the bad mattress would be replaced while we were at dinner. Sure enough, when we got back to our cabin that night, the mattress had been replaced.

The front desk even called the next morning to make sure we were satisfied with the replacement mattress.

Anything in the cabins that you find reasonably unsatisfactory, i.e. bad mattress/dirty bathroom, will be timely fixed by maintenance if you report it to the front desk.
