OPTIX on Deck 12. It is next to Johnny Rockets and connected-ish to the game room. It is very popular. Not sure how old your teen is though. There are different times of day it is available for diff age groups. If I remember correctly, the 12-14 age group have to leave by 10 or 11pm then it is for the older group (15-17).

You will also find the teens meet up at the Sports Deck..and that is on DECK 13 Check your daily compass for times of dodgeball games..

The ice berg is gone... Y-Sukk.gif

Oh, I wondered. When I was on the Explorer two years ago, I saw it. My DD just cruised on her and I told her where the iceberg was but she said she couldn't find it. Now I know why. :(

Is ice cream free of charge on the Explorer orf is there a charge

The self serve frozen yogurt station on the pool deck is included in your cruise fare. The Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop on the royal Promenade is extra charge.

Thanks for the info. My 2 boys will be 14 and 16 at the time of our cruise. Back in 2007 we went on a Carnival cruise and my boys did not like the kids clubs at all. Since they did not like the kids club they are saying they do not even want to try the teen club on the Explorer but I told them that since they are older they will have more fun. I am sure i can convince them to give it a try! :D

Thanks again,

Have you joined the Roll Call for your ship?

You might find some other teens that are going and they will look forward to hooking up with them on the ship.

You're Welcome, Anytime!!

You have a lot of time before sail away. A few months before have them create a Fbook group specific for your sail date. Also, there is no roll call for your cruise yet, so why not create one. (you might see one someone created for a B2B, 2 sail dates combined. No one has posted on this. Roll call should have its own thread) You can tell your boys that at their ages they will love the kids club- they cant compare their age bracket now to when they were young. All Optix is, is pretty much a place for them to congregate- not much supervision. They will love it!! It is the place all the kids go to find eachother. (that and the sports court)

I saw on a site that the ages are 12-14 and then 15-17. Are they in the clubs together or one after the other? Also, does the 14 yr olds have an earlier curfew than the 15 yr olds? My DS will be 3 months shy of 15 and will want to hang out with his friends who are mostly 15. Will they be able to?

I know I am waaaaayyyyyy early booking my cruise. Prob earlier than most people do but it just worked out this way for me and my family. We wanted to book early so we could save up the money and have something to look forward to. We also wanted to do it early enough so if other family members wanted to join us, they can work it into their work schedule.

I wil check out the roll call for my cruise when it gets closer to the date. Thanks again for the info. Even though it is so early I still soooooo excited for my trip! :)

I think you are right with the age groups. They are not together, inside Optix. The younger teens have it until 10pm I think then it goes to the older group. I am sure there will be lots of congregating outside in the area of the club. Curfew is 1am - unless you stay inside Optix then it is 2 am (& I still dont understand the logic- but my DS who loves staying out was in by 1am.)

I have heard so many different opinions on wether one age will be allowed to hang out in the club with the other b/c one kids age is so close to the older age group. I think it is the call of security at the door and I suggest on the first night you go with your kids if you want your almost 15 yr old to be bumped up & allowed in after 10pm...(hope that made sense!) I have heard they will make a notation, they check in teens by seapass/cabin #, so your almost 15 yr old would need to be added to the list for the older age group. They have a clipboard with the info at the door.

We are traveling on 6/9/11 9 night with our 3 grandchildren the ages are 13 almost 14 a 10 year old and a 5 year old. This is the first time on the ship with children. Do you sign them up when you board. Where can I find out more info on the kids program. Like times, activities ect. We love the Exployer we have sailed her 5 times and never get tired of being on board. She is a beautiful ship.

I will try to gather all the kids Compasses when we go and post them when we return.

Search the other All Things EOS thread for kids program there is a lot of info out there.

I would love to see the kids compasses also. Thanks. :) I will check out the other Explorer thread but it is so long and the info will not be as up to date as what you will be able to get for us.

Have a great time,

Loralie

Deck plans on RCI's site show an "Eco-learning Station" on Deck 4 (marine science interactive displays including the ships position).

Is this the lab that was removed?

What was the lab replaced with?

Thanks,

Mark

Looking at where the lab was, it's just part of the bar area now. All they did was remove the lab. The aquarium bar area is pretty cool due to the aquarium, but it's just between the casino and dining room so it gets lots of traffic.

That's so strange. The only reason why I even knew about the science lab is because it's still listed on RCI's website!

Edited to add: That eye-roll is directed at RCI's website, not anyone here.

The website says that Voyager class ships have an enclosed solarium, too, which they have never had. If they can't get that straight I am sure it will take forever to change the blurb about the lab.
