2012 itineraries

What happened to the new Riviera? I thought she was due to sail in April 2012.

They'll probably do what they did for Marina and release a separate brochure just for her initial sailings. OR, she's in Europe from April onwards through the summer and will be part of that release.

I love O -- but there is no way O can come close to the PG experience! I'm going back on the PG in 2012 -- regardless of the itinerary.
We've almost made the decision to deposit on Paul Gauguin for 2011 (thanks in part to your review :):)) but we'll now also consider the Oceania 2012 FP itineraries. I think Oceania will probably do a stellar job, since they can draw on the successful history of Regent operating in the region for several years. But I do appreciate that Paul Gauguin is recognized to be without peer in FP, at least for now.

It's an 8 hour flight from LA - worth getting there at twice that

French Polynesia even makes Hawaii look bad -- and Hawaii makes the Caribbean look bad. LOL

Mighty Quinn - it's about the ship (the size, the feel, the decor, the staff), the Gauguines, the private Motu, their expertise in that area -- I cannot explain it. I have two O cruises booked for 2011 and I am sure they will be "stellar." I probably will do another O cruise in 2012 but not to FP. O simply cannot be everything. It cannot possibly be anything like the PG. Read those PG boards again

It's such an ordeal getting to Polynesia, and you could do Caribbean Pearls in an Owners Suite for what it costs to get out there.............

Color me Caribbean

It's worth it, believe me.

I also believe that O would have a long way to go to deliver the kind of experience that the Paul Gauguin delivers in French Polynesia.

Curious as to what makes PG the way to go.[/quoteWe did the Wind Song back in 1995 for 7 days in Tahitti. This was one of our most romantic and best cruises we have ever taken. When they put up the sails it was a real adventure.

Curious as to what makes PG the way to go.

Where do I begin?

The entire ship is devoted to the area - everything about it - decor/ambience is FP - even the on board shop - Tahia Collins, the designer, comes at board at the end. The gift shop Coordinator, CYnthia, was Marlon Brando's assistant in FP for 20 years and has lived in FP all that time.

330 passengers max

A level of intimacy that is amazing - the Captain just sits down and talks to you -- as do the other officers.

Food - O is good = PG is over the top - like a fine dining experience in a top restaurant - can't be done with 700 + passengers.

The Gauguines - the hostesses who are an integral part of the on board experience

Mark Eddowes lectures and excursions - I doubt O can steal him away

Siglo - the best band I have ever heard at sea

The private Motu

A service level that is so extraordinary that I am still raving about it.

All inclusive - no tipping, all drinks included - that's a lot of Mai Tais

The ship has a sports deck - you can scuba, waterski, jetski right off the boat and an experienced dive team on board always

The fact that the ship's owners also own top FP hotels and are building a 3rd. They are specialists in the area.

The PG is being totally refurbished in Jan 2012

Wendy -- you continue! LOL

On second thought I take it all back - you will all book the PG and the prices will go up and I will have to pay more or not get the stateroom I want. Please book O for FP!

Leonid, she leaves Papeete on May 3rd, arriving San Fran 21 days later.

What's 3 weeks among friends:D Still think the Regatta will do Alaska in 2012.At least I hope so. Long flights to anywhere are not in the cards for us.

Having been on the Paul Gauguin, which I really really enjoyed, I have to say I'm not in 100% agreement with Pacheco. A fantastic experience yes, but I have been on Oceania and feel I would enjoy them in FP as well, except for that all inclusive drinking thing.

I'm seriously looking at that Papeete to SF in May. The biggest drawback is that the ports in FP are the same ones we were at before.

I do agree it's worth twice the trip to get there.

Does anyone have pricing and itinerary details (times in each port, sea days) for this new Tahiti cruise? I've asked Oceania & my TA but neither have responded yet & I'm facing a booking deadline of tomorrow for Paul Gauguin. If it's easy to post here, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for any help.

APR 22 - REGATTA - 11 Days - PAPEETE TO PAPEETE - Tahitian Breeze

Moorea, French Polynesia; Huahine, French Polynesia; Raiatea, French Polynesia; Bora Bora, French Polynesia+; Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Islands; Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands; Rangiroa, French Polynesia
