What is happy hour?

I've seen happy hour mentioned on a few threads, what exactly is it? Is that when the drink of day is offered, or are there discounts on all drinks?

We'll be on the Thanksgiving Oosterdam, if that makes any difference.

Thank You

Typically it is 2 drinks for the price of one. :D

Happy hour on HAL is usually BOGO, meaning buy one get one free :D To be specific, get the second one of the SAME drink for free.

Wow, that's a really good deal, I'm sure DH & I can find a drink to agree on, or maybe I'll be having two at a time???;)

Thanks for the answers!

:D You're welcome!

I agree that Happy Hour is a great deal. But I wish it was a 1/2 price policy, because then I would try more different kinds of drinks.

Are you listening HAL? ;)

We had the 1/2 price drinks happy hour on the Veendam in Sept. The time was from 9 to 10pm in the Crows Nest and Ocean Bar. The posted time did conflict with the late dining.

I agree!!!

Not sure about the rest of the world - but here in Australia it is nearly always 1/2 price drinks during happy hour (and they are common in the pubs). I was rather amused when DH and I were presented with 2 drinks each during happy hour on the Volendam last year!!:D

Seeing as DH drinks beer and I sparkling wine, it's not like one of us can order, get 2 and give the 2nd to the other person iykwim.

So we either have to 'drink-em-quick' or drink one 'not-so-cold'.

Either way is not ideal . . .especially the drinking it quick with sparkling wine:o LOL.

If you drink Premimum brands -- like Grey Goose -- they are not included in the 2 for 1 drinks.

Some ships have the Happy Hour -- some don't.

Some ships have it in the Crow's Nest and the Ocean Bar -- times vary. We have been on ships when it was from 4:30 - 5:30. Other times 4 - 5 --- some people have said that it was from 3 -4. Check your daily program for the times.

On one ship they had a Happy Hour in the Casino a couple of times during the cruise from 11 PM until Midnight.

Tfe first Happy Hour we saw was on the Rotterdam on South Pacific cruise in March 2010. 4-5 PM Ocean Bar and Crows nest. Good idea but too bad it wasnt 5-6 in the Ocean bar so you could dance and listen to the band as well.

It would be nice to know what ships and cruises this will be available on, then wouldnt have to make other arrangements:cool:

On the Zuiderdam in the Ocean Bar -- the band didn't start to play until 7 PM.

And there was only a guitarist in the Crow's Nest -- didn't start until late in the evening as well -- usually 8 or 9 PM.

On the Eurodam in May, the guitarist from the Crow's Nest would also play during Happy Hour in the Ocean Bar, usually between 4:30 and 5:30.

I wouldn't mind that.

We had nothing on the Zuiderdam in the Ocean Bar until 7 PM. And then they wondered why no one stopped in there for pre-dinner cocktails. Also had Happy Hour a couple of times during the 10 day cruise. Nothing to attrack anyone to the bars.

Wish I could remember the Beverage Managers name -- he was new -- used to work on RCI.

It's just an hour between 5:00 and 6:00pm that everybody on the ship feels very happy!!!;)
