sjbj Posted January 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2011 We will be docking at Outer Harbor in Adelaide which does not seem to be really close to the city center. Can anyone tell how far it is from the port to city center and what the best way to get there and back is?
Kiwi Kruzer Posted January 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2011 We have been there twice on a cruise and on both occassions the ship has put on , or organised a shuttle into the City. There is also a rail station opposite the wharf, but the feedback was that the train times dont work very well. You only have 1 day and dont want to hang around waiting for a train to arrive. Our shuttles dropped us off and picked us up from the Rundle Mall , which is right in the heart of the City.
lynsteve Posted January 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) The above i can vouch for as we live in Adelaide, anything you want to know we'll help. The shuttle would take around 30 to 40 minutes to the Mall. Stevo Edited January 14, 2011 by lynsteve

As we need to fly to Adelaide from Sydney can you advise where would be the best place to get accommodation the night before we board. We need to get to Berth 2, Outer Harbour. kuldalai Posted March 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) The train from Outer Harbour station at the Cruise berths runs every 30 minutes to and from Adelaide Central station . The train trip takes 40 minutes each way . Timetable is here : https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/var/metro/storage/original/application/684c3f76dfe11ad139bbae9fa45d8cc5.pdf Edited March 20, 2015 by kuldalai
clm1982 Posted May 6, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2015 (edited) Hi, i live in Adelaide and the closest accomodation possible to the harbour would be the largs pier hotel, is more of a pub with rooms than a hotel though. http://www.largspierhotel.com.au/ you would still need to catch a taxi to the dock, maybe 10min ride, you could catch the train from largs to outer harbour but i would just catch a taxi. Otherwise the nearest proper hotel would be at West Lakes, The lakes resortwww.lakesresorthotel.com.au/ again you would need to catch a taxi to the dock but probably about 30mins. Let me know if you need anymore info. We are joining a cruise in Adelaid at the end of March. clm1982 Posted May 6, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2015 Public Transport is not the best in Adelaide unfortunatly! The ship may put a shuttle bus on for you but you could catch the train from outer harbour into the city or catch a taxi they just dont come very often like other cities. We will be docking at Outer Harbor in Adelaide which does not seem to be really close to the city center. mkccltr Posted May 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 28, 2015 We will be cruising into your city on March 31, 2016. Port times 8 - 6 any suggestions on private tours or DIY?
clm1982 Posted June 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 2, 2015 What sort of things do you like to do Marcia? Are you into wine? Barossa Valley or McLaren Vale are nice for wine tours, or Harndorf is a little german town in the hills which is nice to look around.
Opua Kiwi Posted March 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 3, 2016 Does anyone have any recent experience if Princess have shuttles to town; and how soon after arrival they start ? On the day I am in, the first train from Outer Harbour is not till 09:30 and the ship arrives at 07:00. I guess there will be a ticket machine which takes cash at Outer Harbour ? Thanks. There are plenty of earlier trains as POSTED ABOVE the full timetable is here. There are earlier trains at 0700, 0730, 0800 and 0830, 0900 . https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/var...9fa45d8cc5.pdf 2. Trans Adelaide staff man the station on Cruise Boat days to sell tickets to/from Adelaide. You need Australian $ cash . Bobal Posted March 17, 2016 #13 Share Posted March 17, 2016 We were there little over a week ago. The train station is a very short walk from the ship. Trains ran every half hour, on the hour and we had no problem catching a train there or back and plenty of time to explore the city. There are guides at the pier with maps and lot of info and also when we got off the train in Adelaide. There is also a free bus which runs around the city which you can get on and off as you please. Lady Chew Posted August 9, 2016 #15 Share Posted August 9, 2016 Is it possible to get off the ship & find a wine tour, or do you need to book in advance? We don't need to go to a lot of wineries, just one or two. We will be there on a Saturday in November.

GUT2407 Posted June 5, 2017 #17 Share Posted June 5, 2017 Are there any rental car agencies near the cruise port? Pretty sure the nearest was at Port Adelaide, maybe 10 minutes on the train.
